  1. Yep, got clobbered by Arky and lost a close one to Vandy…but taking care of business in the rest of the weak noncon. Wish there was more coverage on our blogs about it, and from what I’ve heard D1 isn’t that great for the price. Having McLean back was huge but it’s a long season and Josh teams have certainly peaked early before.
  2. Fun fact that the Sideshow Bob gag was due to the writers running out of content for this episode and needed 20s or so of filler…though my favorite is the ‘2 against 1’ cactus patch gag And I recall that Trey Parker hated this episode before it aired and wanted to pull it…still my favorite SP episode.
  3. Feel like I say this every year but it’s a shame that baseball isn’t on tv more. Yeah there’s ESPN+ but it seems to just have such limited exposure for a game that has, in my opinion, the best playoff system out there. It’s a great thing to have on the tv when you’re cooking or something, there’s key moments of excitement but also lots of breathing room to stay on task.
  4. Yep there’s one configured for VIP transport called the C-37. Guess I shoulda said VVIP because it’s quite a step up from the C-21 Learjets that seem to shuttle stars around in-theater. There’s an upcoming jammer thatll replace the EC-130 Compass Call birds. …kinda reminds of the elusive RAT55 radar test bed that flies around the NTTR/Area 51 a lot I’ve always wondered if they drop special mission birds in UPT (training)…I’d guess not, probably have to fly a normal white jet like a C-21 first or maybe other AMC stuff like a tanker or C17. On the other hand some people do go to AFSOC (special ops) right out of training so who knows.
  5. Thanks gents. I like listening to LiveATC or just random stuff like VAS on YouTube…hell I miss channel 9 on the old UA birds. But complex taxi instructions seem like they’d be hard to follow unless you were prepared for it. Obviously there’s endless clips of JFK, between old Kennedy Steve stuff and just general mayhem it seems to be a magnet for wild dialog. I figured most weren’t that bad.
  6. Dad was just a reservist 1LT (retired AD O6) back in ‘85 when I saw my first air show. His reserve base was Niagara Falls so naturally that’s where we went and off to see the Blue Angels…which saw lead and opposing solo crash. It’s the only memory I have before about 10yo: https://www.nytimes.com/1986/03/16/nyregion/report-cites-pilot-error-in-blue-angels-crash.html Once he went AD we had a few air shows to go to where the T-birds went at it…and I instinctively clench up a bit during that maneuver. Dangerous job. There was a discovery show about the Angels years ago that was awesome, but what cracked me up was a segment where the new angels had to fly into LAX…naturally it was a foreign world and they really struggled with all the tightly controlled traffic and constant ATC vectors. Even taxiing was a challenge. Y’all that fly professionally and often go into places like JFK, ORD, LAX, etc that have multiple ground freqs and lengthy taxi instructions have my respect. Do you still use pen/paper/iPad to write it down as they issue or do you mostly have it figured out already by knowing the airport/gate, what runway you’re given, etc?
  7. This seems like the perfect opportunity for our resident true crime obsessed @Nicole44 to put all the skills learned at PodCast U to good work
  8. Sounds like they forgot about their own API, in their own client, when they decided to shut off API access. Brilliant
  9. In the ‘stupid shit’ column of my life… Back in 03, when I was still a phone rep, the guy in the next cubical over and I were sorta buddies…his ‘uncle’ was the mayor of Matamoros and asked him to bring him a car he’d purchased in SA. This dude asked me and a large black man named GB to come along. We said fuck it, why not. Turns out the car was a demo/whatever Jeep from a dealership and had a wrap in the form of a giant American flag for July 4th. So this tiny Hispanic dude, large black dude and my 6’ white ass drove that damn thing across the border into Matamoros. It was gaudy even for South Texas. Between traffic and random stares, it took us forever to deliver it after which the mayor loaned us his black Suburban to tour the town for the day…suddenly traffic was parting like for Moses. The mayor showed us around his villa and it was the first time I’d seen an AK-47, hanging against the wall just inside the door. Turned out fine but in hindsight I shoulda told Manny to fuck off.
  10. Tesla is recalling 3,470 Model Y crossovers for second-row seat fix “Tesla is recalling 3,470 Model Y crossovers built between May 2022 and February 2023 in order to check that the bolts that secure the frame of the second-row seats are properly torqued. Those that aren't could potentially increase the risk of injury to occupants of the second row during a crash.”
  11. If my two years attending Burkburnett HS (while living on Sheppard AFB) is any indication of a generic small town here…then I’m with you. I swear 90% of those folk’s gene pool is more like a circular lazy river: marrying each other out of high school, having kids at 20, and then their kids do the same. Granted Burk is practically Oklahoma, but that entire place was the most depressing monument to an oil boom town past filled with mostly people afraid of anything outside its tiny borders.
  12. My wife and I tend to have one show at a time we watch together, and right now this is it. I’d kinda given up on this show in the later third of season 1, but as the scope has expanded in season 2 I’m starting to enjoy it more. Obviously won’t be The Wire of New Orleans but I’m definitely enjoying it more. But one thing that bugs me is how there’s no sense of scale for the Desire or mafia gangs…like it’s supposed to be these epic forces in the city but all we ever see is like four people talking. The Wire especially did a great job using extras, dialog, staging shots and overall atmosphere to give you the sense that The Game never ceases. Speaking of The Wire…shiiiiit
  13. Definitely depends on the person. If you’re just a nicotine addict they work great, if it’s more the act/oral fixation then vaping seems to work well. 70 years is insane though wow
  14. My wife had a gastric sleeve put on, Dec 2019…lucky timing, in hindsight. She was always curvy but after the second kid just couldn’t keep the weight off. It worked wonders for her. Since you’re going to take it seriously as a means to forcefully change your eating habits, it’ll work wonders for you too. Do not fuck around with post-op eating guidelines. Regarding smoking, if you struggle with cold Turkey get yourself a good vape setup. Start with a high nicotine level but taper (mix with next lower mg levels) as soon as you can. This is gonna be awesome for you
  15. Fuck norovirus in the goat ass. Wife out of town past weekend, all going well with Daddy Rules (don’t fight, break anything or generally be assholes and we will mix fun with Roblox the likes of which you have never known). Sunday: Starting 3p my 9yo says his stomach hurts, think little of it as it’s often anxiety-driven. By 6pm he’s puking his guts up, 615pm his 6yo sister does the same. This continues at 30 minute intervals until approximately 1am. They can’t sleep due to nausea, finally end up with me in my daughters bed, her on the floor, and son sleeping on a towel in his room…after doing laundry until 3am. Monday: Doc visits for all. Get Zofran and a ‘good luck’. Diarrhea begins. I manage to get some work done. Wife gets home at 8p and I’m already asleep in the guest room. Tuesday: Kids well enough to go to school, wife bitches I didn’t make daughters bed perfectly. I can’t sleep and go to guest room. Wednesday: 1am, wake up with terrible gut pains. Ask myself ‘am I about to puke?’ Affirmative. Up until 4am. Spend all day in bed or sometimes puking between my legs as I pee out my butt. Wife says that’s disgusting. Thursday: 6am getting kids ready for school, 9yo says ‘bad news, mommy was throwing up all night’. She’s miserable, apologizes for ‘disgusting’ comment as she did the very same thing. She’s in bed all day. Friday: Work is insane, eat my first real meal since Tuesday 11am. Back to my pre-Christmas weight. Fuck norovirus. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
  16. Are you going to do it with someone experienced? Strongly recommend that. Someone should be there to remind you that it’s temporary in case you get a little wild and help ensure you don’t decide now is a good time to go visit a place of memories. Do not drive! Also strongly recommend you research ‘set and setting’. Set yourself up for a positive mindset entering the experience…clean your house, turn off your phone, turn off your Ring doorbell, make sure everything that needed doing that day is done, that you have nothing pressing the next day, have your favorite music loaded and ready to play, lock away your car keys, etc. You don’t want to be coming up and worried your phone will ring, or be tripping and unable to start the stereo, or staring at a sink of dirty dishes, etc.
  17. Last time I tripped on acid was when I smuggled a couple tabs in the spine of a book on a flight to visit family in germany, using jet lag as an excuse to stay behind for the day while they were out. I wandered their tiny village and marveled at the summer greenery, idly admiring the windmills and gorgeous countryside. It was amazing. That’s where I’ll leave my LSD experience because other times it felt too mechanical…like my brain was cracked open for the world to see like I was Neo coming out of the matrix. So yeah, posrep because I enjoy psilocybin more as well. Or at least I did before real responsibility got in the way.
