  1. Because in the grand scheme it’s not going to cover the debt servicing. According to NYT they went from approximately 7,500 to 3,700 FTE…say comp and ben averaged $150k/FTE…3,700 x $150k = $555M annually. Now that doesn’t account for any severance or other related costs like lawsuits, and the debt service is about $1B annually. Considering the ad revenue evaporating, new features being put on hold, brain drain, limited inside sales reps, and a complex core mesh that seems to be crumbling…I’d suggest you are vastly overestimating the impact of indiscriminately firing half the workforce.
  2. They certainly made a great, shitty movie for the MST3k folks to riff on
  3. I mean…guys like Tim Pool and that chick on Tucker last night may not be red necks, but they’re perpetuating falsehoods that motivate these assholes
  4. Fair enough, but it feels newer to be so publicly adopted and espoused by an entire wing of politics. Talked about in living rooms, sure, but not necessarily agreed with by public figures on national tv. Though I’m probably naive/sheltered from it.
  5. I’m not going anywhere near the gun ‘argument’ because it’s been sadly happening for years and we will get the same old people with the same old arguments. What seems newer to me is this angle some have taken against LGBT communities that they are grooming and sexualizing children, and using that (false) accusation as a way to marginalize those who just recently were able to gain a little ground in the war of acceptance: https://news.yahoo.com/tucker-guest-expect-more-attacks-034606363.html Tucker Carlsons (lesbian) guest: —— “The shooting at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs over the weekend that left five dead and more than two dozen injured was “predictable” and won’t be the last of its kind, said a guest on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show Tuesday night. “The tragedy that happened in Colorado Springs the other night—it was expected and predictable. We all within Gays Against Groomers saw this coming from a mile away,” said Jaimee Mitchell, whose group describes itself as “a coalition of gays against the sexualization, indoctrination, and medicalization of children.” —— Where is this pandemic of sexualization of children they speak of? Is it all happening in that secret Democrat pizza parlor? I have to hand it to the far right, they are masters at inventing conspiracy theories that take hold of the weak minded, frustrated, and angry. If this guy does come out as trans, it won’t lead me to ‘outrage level plummeting’…it’ll ramp it up, because this ridiculous messaging that these people are somehow subhuman possibly caused a closeted person to lash out at what they were told are a scourge to be eliminated.
  6. In a way, I admire Humble’s tenacity…not the played-out, version 8 of whatever his first handle was…but sheer dedication to getting neg trucked, new handle, rep-up in the crypto threads, then burning it all up posting shit the bulk of the site agrees is pointless fanboi drivel. So…congratulations, I award you one Homercles
  7. As someone who was almost certainly that classic hard drinker, has posted about it here + TOS and hounded Twice in PMs (thank you again for you help and patience)…just wanted to say that I/we appreciate this thread as a resource that’s welcoming across the spectrum. I’ve been around long enough that I feel I ‘know’ some of y’all but it’s still anonymous, existing in a weird zone where we can get straight feedback from trusted voices without risking judgement in the real world. I needed to be told I was probably not an alcoholic, but a problem drinker starting to face consequences, to get the confidence to commit to a moderation strategy that worked for me. That wouldn’t have happened without following this thread over the years. So, thank you. I still enjoy alcohol occasionally but the big difference for me is it’s no longer a ‘fast forward’ button for the stressful/mundane parts of life. It’s just something I do with friends occasionally. Once my overall life got right, alcohol was no longer a tool. Y’all are still a big help for those of us not in the alcoholic dick measuring, and we appreciate being welcomed here.
  8. If it were me I’d also get a case of beer and my pellet gun, spend a few hours in the garage every weekend under the guise of ‘sorry honey I gotta care of the rodents’. Hell if a rat showed up I might offer him a beer, and if declines my hospitality I’d start blasting before hanging his body on the 4Runner as a warning to the others…be cool or get capped.
  9. Have it hosted by Mike Leach dressed in pirate gear and I’ll gladly PPV that shit
  10. I was on a pretty heady career arc to my early 30’s, serving as an IC to some powerful people at my employer and could have leveraged my own name recognition to jump into leadership…who knows what woulda happened, but the groundwork was there. Then I got married and had our first kiddo, and my life priorities changed. My long-time boss had always said ‘family first’ but I saw that he really meant it…two kids with the associated missed time they require, grad school, patience as I worked through a tough adjustment period in my life (and associated drinking problem), etc. A buddy of mine who did make that leap is now a Sr Director who they want to make a VP…he works 12 hours a day, phone never stops ringing, his wife practically raises their daughter solo, never gets to unplug. He doesn’t want those VP stripes even though it’ll probably mean his upward mobility will halt. Meanwhile I’d do anything for my boss because he enables me being a good husband/father and that’s worth untold amounts of money to me. Point being, I can’t respect someone who asks for endless sacrifice for the ‘firm’…let alone someone who demands it, in writing. Forget his accomplishments, I can’t respect Elon as a person.
  11. It was so fucking nice to not hear that whiny, dry voice going off on rambling, pointless rants recently. Even the way he often just leans against the podium and drools ‘words’ into the microphone is pathetic…and yet Biden ‘can’t string sentences together’. But I’m with Stache, I wanna see him get primary’d and then run as an independent. He can leech votes away from the GOP like he leeched global goodwill away from our country, and it’ll be their own fault for hitching the wagon to this dumbass grifter in the first place.
  12. Elon confidently tweeting about remote procure calls, micro services, serial requests and all the other examples where he’s publicly proven wrong…
  13. Having the same issues with Yellowstone flashbacks as I do with House of the Dragon…outside of Lloyd and obviously Beth, have a hard time always telling who is who. Was really ‘proud’ of young Rip playing it smart in the bar, however, and along with Jimmy/Lloyd are about the only characters I can really stand. On further reflection it’s really just the Beth/Jamie dynamic that is borderline exhausting to watch. I get that he made a poor choice when helping her sweep the unintended pregnancy under the rug, and he dug his hole deeper with his biological father…but once I saw the next episode preview I said to myself ‘oh boy, here comes yet more flogging for Jamie!!!111’. You keep beating someone down for a past transgression, their mood goes from regret to resentment to outright rage…giving them no choice but to seek out alternative paths for ANY positive reinforcement. It’s a fictional show so you need some arc to tell a story, but after awhile the Beth/Jamie dynamic is like listening to The Wall on repeat and eventually get to ‘JFC Roger stfu and cage that dripping self pity…have some grace and accountability’. “End up like a dog that’s been beat too much until you spend half your life just coverin up” Regardless I’ll keep watching it. It’s a show for my wife and I to watch together, need something to bridge until Ted Lasso / White Lotus episodes + burn time until Stranger Things / HotD / etc, and it’s gorgeous to look at. But damn I’m tired of the all powerful, beyond-the-law, pissed off, predictable pigeon hole they’ve jammed most of the women into. It feels lazy.
  14. That’s what I’ve wondered, including in this thread. Is he burning it down because he got his fee fees hurt in the spat with their prior leadership? Make it a massive 4chan for continued obfuscation of the truth in pursuit of further chaos and disinformation? Or is the simplest explanation, an outsized explosion of his ego fueled by autism and cocaine, the right one.
  15. I hate all these people
  16. Happened to me too…I had adception at one point with the Safari/Tapa pop up on top of an ad on top of a ‘see new posts’ dialog box on top of the actual content. That’s how I ended up spending $12,000 on United Rentals.
  17. Dude people out there believe the earth is flat, raided a pizza parlor to free imaginary trapped children and that Apollo was faked Don’t bother
  18. Ok so inflation is up, the broader market is down 20+% this year, and the DT/6th Street Journal crowd have been crowing about both as a reflection of our current admin. Let’s checkin with bitcoin to see how well it hedged against these ‘headwinds’
  19. Think I have those same BR40 and they’ve lasted like 8 years so far, being used regularly. But otherwise agree on LEDs I’ve bought through Costco, they die in a few years…seems it’s not the element itself but shitty electronics on the driver.
