  1. As much as I despised Trump I never gave him credit or derision for gas prices. Same with Obama, Bush, etc. People that do so are regarded. Just like stocks, pretty much everyone knows the general trends and somehow ascribe them to one man. It’s short sighted. Now artificially keeping them low to wear a hat about the markets hitting new highs? Pushing legislation to lower taxes for corporations that simply buy back their stocks? Arguing that sensible regulation is a problem and thus letting things like 2008 happen or promising FF industry you’re going to bring back their mining jobs? That’s the shit that pisses me off when a democrat inherits the results of their failed policies, gets punished as the economy corrects to account for it, and then gets runoff by a rigged election system…and any opportunity to really fix those things gets stopped by the party of no. Now that opens the doors for draconian social policies that have my minority, gay, whatever friends nervous as hell. Shit I’m worried what this country will look like for my kids. Instead of investing for the inevitable surge of demand as covid waned, these huge companies were buying back their stock and idling supply/capital goods to keep their short-sighted investors happy. I’ve been to Disney and flown in the past year…they’re using that excuse to raise prices, reduce service and drive up margin. Consumers and small businesses are paying the price. Makes me sick. /pointless rant over
  2. Barkeepers Friend with SS and you’re set
  3. Wives…choosing shit that fits the decor but doesn’t function for ass, since 2000BC

  5. I’ve had expensive nonstick pans with lifetime warranties, I’ve had cheap ones and we have AllClad SS I use when needed for bigger stuff. Have come to the conclusion that I’m going to buy cheap-o’s for nonstick going forward because regardless of price point, careful cleaning, not using sprays and using only plastic/wooden utensils…if they get used everyday like mine do they’re going to degrade at some point. So yeah those look nice but as the one who does 95% of the cooking for a family of four, have zero interest at that price point. My nonstick stuff gets a heavy workout for breakfast, weeknight dinners, etc and the only difference for the expensive ones were they lasted a little longer. My cast iron is used for fish, oven stuff, scallops or occasional steak. The AllClad works great when I’ve got a larger stir fry, sauté or other items. Cheap nonstick mafia for everything else.
  6. I take it no OLED burn in issues? My dear old LG 60” plasma upstairs sounded like a gunshot one night and quit…Y Sus board had some blown transistors so sent it off, may need bigger boards too. Why am I repairing a decade old plasma? Because for maybe $200 I hope to keep it alive in the light-controlled game room until my wife executes a major overhaul up there. Until I know final decor, not sure on size or type…good TVs just get cheaper so time is my buddy and I don’t want a $500 HiSense for now. Obviously love the plasma black levels, which my Samsung QLED downstairs can’t touch. Worry is I’ve got a Wii, Switch dock and PS3 (for Band of Brothers on Blu-ray)…and concerned about kids leaving a future OLED on a frozen screen for hours unbeknownst to me. So curious about experience there, as if either get a 65” OLED or something like a 75” LCD full array type up there. Haven’t really had issues with the plasma once I run the ‘wash’ cycle for a bit, but have had logos temporarily stuck on.
  7. Stayed in Airbnb in San Diego with a couple buddies, tv was locked in some hospitality/parental mode and only had Pluto TV…so we watched hours of The Price Is Right Barker Era channel whenever we stumbled in drunk or stoned. Would recommend. Owner also shoved all her clothes into every conceivable space making drawers/closets useless, left a rotting watermelon on the kitchen counter for us, and I had to awkwardly pick up the key from some drunk uncle in the ghetto after I landed at SAN. Would not recommend (get some kinda passcode or WiFi lock thing).
  8. Not that anyone gives a shit but I thought the ending was a bit weak compared to the rest of the season…despite being surprisingly action packed with some epic scenes, it just didn’t feel as satisfying as the tight ending to say season 1. + Jonathan and Will’s talk at the pizza joint was a well written, emotional moment with subtle acting and nuance. It surprised me as those moments can be hit/miss - The whole ‘El needs inspiration’ with Mike ‘the heart’ confessing his love with patented wooden delivery, just highlighted ‘all you need is love and Kate Bush to defeat this amazingly powerful evil’ trope of S4…like this is the final battle, you need the clumsy faux-poetic stumbling of an androgynous bad haircut to motivate you against your dark counterpart? + The ‘defeat’ of Vecna was an excellent mashup of Terminator 2 ‘T1000 gets shotgunned in the foundry’ and Contra ‘everyone stand here and blast the heart to win the game’. - No on except Dustin and Mr Munson seemed to give a shit about Eddie being dead. I guess they watch the show too and know any new character is ripe for the chopping block. + Vecna using Lucas to signify his entry into Max’s mind was excellent visually and smooth as butter in a very scary way. Combined with his fight against frat boy being realistic really brought more depth to the character. - Argyle had too much screen time IMO dudes though he had his moments Overall I thought Henry/001/Vecna was a more compelling antagonist than the Mind Flayer, very well acted in the Lab scene flashbacks and a thoughtful arc that wasn’t just narrative back story…though somehow Billy still haunts me as well and it was cool to see him a few times this season. Seems like S5 will circle back to a tighter plot line of the core group all in one place and Will being the focal point once again like S1. His parallels to Henry were made pretty obvious all season, which I hope sets up a different victory for the gang instead of ‘wait for El to get happy/sad/pissed to solve all the problems’. This show is at its best as a tight homage to Jaws/Goonies/Alien and not as a 1980’s Game of Thrones, so I hope the lessons learned between S3-S4 end the show on a high point in two years. /fuck OU
  9. Doesn’t seem to get near as much discussion as Metallica/Kate Bush but the ending of episode 8 with a badass version of Separate Ways was a masterclass in building suspense towards a final battle. Lyrics sync up nicely to Steve looking at Nancy “our hearts broken in two” and gang hopping out of the van “you, you, you”. My wife and I weren’t able to watch the last episode for almost a week after, but I replayed that scene on my phone about a dozen times…to the point my 8yo requests it and wants to watch the show (not happening).
  10. There is an incredible amount of gravitational lensing in the center of that photo, with a few of those galaxies doubled up. It’s absolutely mind blowing the sheer scale of the universe…cannot wrap my head around it

  12. Maybe Jeff Anderson is doomed to have talent playing only one role but I always thought he’d make it further than the Askewniverse.

  18. You gotta be careful passing or getting passed by an 18 wheeler. They have a bow wave at the front that pushes you away and a wake behind that sucks you in. Sitting at a red light while cars whiz by you at 60mph can be exciting too, which is why I was always cognizant of which side of a lane was safest at any given moment…even when stopped. Who knows what a Porsche at 190 would do
  19. Anything that upsets the front tire would instantly lead into a massive ‘tank slapper’ where a self-sustaining wobble of the front end rips your hands off the clip-ons, leading to loss of control and possibly dumping you off the bike. It could be a slick spot on the road, rock under the tire, or slightest of wheelies. Doesn’t take much at that speed. And no if I were ever stupid enough to go that fast (gave it up years ago when second kid came along), I would indeed have engine-braked down to a reasonable speed, being careful not to downshift too early and risk chatter even if it has a slipper clutch: 1) Lock up the rear tire = you gotta ride it into the ground in a low side, or ride it out to a stop as releasing it can snap the bike up tossing you off in a high side. 2) Probably wouldn’t lock the front tire at that speed, and a SS bike would have dual ventilated front rotors…but I’d still worry about overheating then or over stressing that tire. Bug strikes hurt but won’t knock you off, I got hit by a bat once on 45 Toll doing about 80. Ultimately any number of tiny things will kill you or someone else. There is absolutely no place but the race track for speeds like that in a car or bike.
  20. I’m grateful to be 42, married with two kids and my wife having had both a uterine ablation + tubal when our second was born…and I still caught myself ensuring the odds of an accidental pregnancy was close to 0… …and I’m still incredibly sad and pissed off. It just keeps getting worse for everyone but middle class white people (of which I am one).
