  1. I get that Dems are weak on messaging, and feel fundamentally their inability to be in complete lockstep is a reflection of their more open and diverse party as a whole…but I don’t get people flaying them for not passing laws when they have Sinema/Manchin hindering their ability to even get 50 senate votes in a filibuster world where the senate can block essentially anything getting done. It suits the Rs who can just bang their obstructionist drums all day and crow about high gas prices.
  2. No they’re not that stupid on the autobahn
  3. I may have missed it here or am way off base, but does anyone else feel like they named Eddie Munson because he looks like a young Eddie Van Halen?
  4. You ever read ‘It’? As expected the book delves much further into set/setting and the history of Derry, where arguably the town town turns a blind eye to the horrors in a sad commentary on small town ‘charming on the outside, rotten to the core’. The book is almost as much about the collective soul of the town as it is about Pennywise and the gang. Given ST is a loving homage to the characteristically veiled ‘spiritually feel and show in limited quantities, don’t outright tell’ horror of late 70’s to early 80’s it wouldn’t surprise me if final season implies an uncaring core of the town towards the death of children. Then again it may just be necessary to having multiple seasons of the show. We are on episode 6 now of season 4, and agree the characters are too numerous and physically divergent. Then again I like tighter scripts that leave a lot to your imagination, in the exulted vein of Jaws and Alien (which were sited by the brothers as inspiration). However it’s still a unique show and I enjoy it, especially since we are currently in a villa in Costa Rica where the howling monkeys at night scare provide a fitting background.
  5. Nayara Springs is absolutely incredible. I’ve been at Hanging Gardens in Ubud, Four Seasons Denpasar, Leela Palace in Bangalore, Centara Grand Krabi and a smattering of other wonderful places…but the mix of amenities, service and privacy here has them all beat. The hot spring plunge pool alone is a differentiator. Also the wine pairing meal at Nostalgia last night was an amazing experience, even if the food itself wasn’t quite 5*…highly recommended, we’ve done pairings before but it was a rare thing where both the wine and food were much better together. Did a private hanging bridge tour today just outside La Fortuna, which was fantastic. Glad we didn’t do a group because it allowed us to take our time, stop and actually listen carefully, have unfettered access to monoculars / photos, and hear all the interesting details from our guide…many groups we came across never stfu, or stopped every ten minutes, etc. Took 2.5 hours. Our guide drove around a little extra so we could finally see a sloth off the side of the road coming back. Really enjoying this country so far. Everyone is polite, they really respect and preserve their environment, take dollars everywhere, and I never feel like I’m constantly being shaken down like touristy places in Mexico. What a gem.
  6. Yeah didn’t mean given on outbound, but many countries expect you to have the other half of that customs form they stamp when you arrive. That’s what I was wondering about.
  7. Google tells me they no longer use them. Still was more fun to post here. I’ve been fucked over enough during times in Asia to be wary of paperwork details…just based on no customs bullshit and gorgeous scenery on way to La Fortuna, already know I’m gonna love my time here.
  8. Landed in Liberia about 2 hours ago. Y’all weren’t kidding it’s a small, chill airport…customs scanner guy looked like he was on island time and I’m not even sure there was a screen on the X-ray for him to look at. Backpack coulda been made out of D8 gummies and my man wouldn’t have given a shit. Our flight in announced they hadn’t stocked the customs forms on board. After getting passport stamped and walking by Customs Scanner Guy, I didn’t see a single person receive, fill out, get asked for or otherwise have anything to do with the usual ‘keep second half of this for your outbound flight’ paper that can be such serious business abroad. Are we gonna die, murdered for not having our original no-declarations paper? Was gonna ask at the hotel but we got two more hours in the van to Nayara so might as well ask the collective.
  9. I see a lot of parallels between ‘renewables can’t solve all energy issues’ and ‘that law/action won’t solve all mass shootings’ in here.
  10. Yeah I’m sure the millions of people who were prescribed legal opioids that triggered latent addiction pathways in their brain ‘choose’ to battle it until they have nothing left. I’ll bet the bulk of them were walking down the street one day, stopped in the street and said to themselves “you know what I haven’t tried yet? Heroin. That’s the ticket”. Not sure how some people seem to fail at defaulting to humbleness, humanity and kindness towards people you don’t know who have their own story on how they “got here”.
  11. Just need a Hamsterdam…got dat pandemic! Pandemic! Yellow tops yo!
  12. So we’re worried about a homeless person about to die on opioids having an estate that will sue the librarian if they aren’t able to save their life?
  13. Damn that thing is so old I’m surprised the tail number isn’t N0001
  14. I think Pences mother is the real hero here, surely that’s who he is in the phone with and receiving guidance from
  15. Yep. When I got it I had my own personal Mt Pinatubo levels of toilet punishment
  16. How much is it the interconnection between business/law makers (what the government controls), vs the fact that Texas physically is very conducive to renewables…ie the open flat land available combined with abundant sun/wind (Texas itself)?
  17. I see 4Doors continues his “I’m going to neg but not post to limit exposure of my paltry rep” style drive by here
  18. Which is a lost opportunity to extract 0.00000000121 gigawatts from it
  19. Just needed the dog to lead the gorilla into the aquarium
  20. Oh no the market is down…good thing I don’t live off my investments with another 20+ years to retirement. And if I was close to retirement I’d have folded most of that away in stable money markets or similar.
  21. Electricity? Beyond keeping the lights on in the bathroom when trying to get mycelium cakes to fruit and a box fan to dry the goods before finishing them in a box of desiccant…no, no electricity. Maybe your stove for the pressure cooker if it’s an electric range. Nothing like weed grow lights. Shroomery.org used to be a good resource 20+ years ago. Hardest part is you have to be very, very clean when injecting your spores into the cakes (or scraping spores into your own syringe). You can build a little glove box using stuff from the hardware store, disinfectant spray, rubbing alcohol and a lighter for the needle itself. You’re creating a wonderful environment for bacteria, mold and other nasties to grow so you need to be careful but after that initial step it’s easier. Just be damn sure no kids, pets or unfamiliar people are around when you put the cakes in the humid environment or when your fruit is being dried. The cakes are active, not just the fruit, and a tempting thing to chew on
  22. Precisely why he was cast, I bet.
