  1. Figured this was a good spot for this question - my 6th grade boy is getting really interested in WWII. they’ve started taking about it in history class at school but he’s also asking to watch some movies and docs. I immediately thought of BoB and saving private ryan but thinking about it more those are pretty rough. Any thoughts on movies or docs that are age appropriate? I know the subject matter is rough but hoping there are things we can watch together.
  2. I work downtown and walk up and down 2nd street several times a day (lunch, coffee, take calls while getting some steps in etc). In those 3 or 4 blocks, every single time i encounter at least 5 or 6 homeless and at least 1 or 2 of them has some level of aggression toward passersby. I've seen homeless take their clothes off and shake their dicks at people, just lying their naked and passed out, taking a piss on the sidewalk, screaming at people walking by, screaming at another homeless, smoking weed, all kinds of crazy shit. There are a ton of women and tourists with kids walking that street and they all have to navigate the minefield. In my probably hundreds of walks up and down 2nd I've seen a cop on foot patrol maybe 2 or 3 times.
  3. Chas fucking jogging to first base so we don’t get that run in
  4. I understand it’s a long season and team dynamics are tricky but there has to be accountability on this lazy fielding bullshit - if nothing else to get their attention and heighten awareness. This bullshit Chas pulled the other night letting that guy advance and singletons bullshit at first tonight. Those are the kinds of plays that lose close games and these guys need to understand that. Also they need to start treating first base like a defensive position that matters. Nuance is important as fist base and it’s not just picking short throws like the keep on showing them working on during practice. It’s footwork and timing and they don’t have it and it’s costing us outs.
  5. Fucking amazing how bad our first base play has been. Jesus fucking Christ.
  6. How can none of these motherfuckers play first base?!? Jesus Christ
  7. Holy shit Arrighetti looked good last night -- command and really good raw stuff. If we can get the bottom half to contribute anywhere near league average, keep Breg healthy (i think, with his infield background, he can be good at first -- people don't realize how much a good first baseman helps -- we lose a lot of outs with Singleton and Yainer with their shitty footwork and not understanding how to stretch at the right time to get the most extension on close plays), keep the bullpen going, get and/or keep key starters healthy, and maybe get Tucker back at some point we can win the AL and go deep in the WS. Those stats Fox was showing last night about our performance since the bad start were eye opening -- especially considering Espada's dumbassery, the bottom half sucking, and injuries.
  8. I stopped listening to Erin in the morning bc his sidekick was so bad. I've never heard of Noah but will give it a shot. E isn't great but he's fine and there's something about listening to local live radio covering Texas sports on the drive in in the morning that gives me comfort.
  9. 4 through 9 0 for 11. Par.
  10. Fucking meyers 5 men left on in first 2 abs. So so predictable. Amazing we are where we are. Espada is such a fucking idiot
  11. and trotting Caleb what's his name out there in the 10th is indefensible. Scott, Ort, King -- any of them would have been better
  12. Good lord that throw
  13. Gonna go crazy watching pena chase those sliders over and over and over again. Jesus
  14. Altuve should have scored twice
  15. Why the fuck is he still out there.
  16. Pretty sure that's in Royal's old house over off of 29th. It was for sale a couple of years ago and we looked at it. It hadn't been remodeled in decades and was pretty run down but it was really cool walking through and thinking about all of the shit that went down over the years.
  17. the Ritz at Dana Point is awesome.
  18. what the fuck is going on with Tucker? every game they give an 'injury update' and just show him sitting there eating seeds and say something like 'Tucker did some on field drills today but we're still not expecting to see him until the second week of August' but they never talk about the actual injury or what exactly needs to heal or recover. Did he break his leg? Is it some deep bone bruise that just won't heal? Unless it was actually a break (which I don't think they've ever said) it just seems crazy that he's been out this long and it seems really weird that they just kind of glaze over it on the broadcasts.
  19. The area around brevard cashiers and highlands is awesome. Highlands is a cool little town with a few nice hotels and some good restaurants. There are a ton of great hikes very close to town. Beautiful drive from Asheville. Tons of great golf courses. Very green and lush. Highlands is 4500 ft. High of low 70s in the summer.
  20. Was the place to be in lake Jackson in the 80s and 90s. So many postgame parties there. Regularly pillaged the one on mlk during undergrad and law school and now thrilled to have it back in my life. Wife hates it but kids and I love it. Best part is it’s about 20 minutes from placing order to our front door.
  21. Forgot to mention we took the children to luche libre and it blew their minds. Cheap second row seats right on the action and it was awesome. Wrestlers were great and crowd was into it. Old pretty beat up venue with lots of pretty gritty sights and sounds inside the venue and on the streets outside. A lot of fun.
  22. Wrapping up a couple days in Mexico City headed for puerto Escondido in the morning. Can’t believe we haven’t been here before. Easy two hour flight from Austin and our experience in the city has been amazing. Loved the park and anthropology museum. Walked everywhere with our 12 and 11 year olds and was no prob never had any worries. Staying at great place in polanco called campos polanco - 1500 sq foot apartment very reasonable great location. Ate at pujols, San angel inn, and entremar. San angel food is fine but lunch scene in beautiful courtyard is great. Pujols was great but we’re kind of over marathon tasting multicourse meals. I think the only one I’ve ever done i would do again is French laundry. Entremar was our favorite. Whole fish half red half green was really really good. Liked walking around Roma and condessa but staying in polanco. Polanco reminds me of upper eastside. Wonderful place and will put it on the short list for long weekends going forward.
  23. We're supposed to be in Mexico City Tues -- Fri then in Puerto Escondido for the next week. is there a path where it could fuck with either of those two locations or would the mountains / land kill it before it got to either?
  24. Anyone stayed at or know anything about campos palanco?
  25. Tennessee needs to sit back and wait and get all over thumber dickhead. Aggies are just so objectively nauseating. The absolute worst student body fan base and culture. Puke
