The best basketball product is the opening weekend of March Madness, which also has its fair share of ads.
We need like 85% less pageantry. I mean for god's sake all of Hollywood was at 30 Rock at the same time for a 50 year anniversary and that was still noticeably less of an autofellatio exhibition in comparison to whatever the fuck was happening in San Francisco.
I would do these rules:
Opening Round
First to 50, but a team must also win by four or more points or have the lead at the end of 24 minutes of game time.
If the score is tied at the expiration of 24 minutes, the team who was first to reach 50 points wins by default.
Nobody on the roster can log more than three minutes of playing time until all other players have logged two minutes, 50 seconds
Nobody on the roster can log more than five minutes of playing time until all other players have logged more than four minutes, 50 seconds
The team not in possession of the ball can hockey substitute (without the need for a dead ball or a stoppage of play)
If a team exceeds a playing time limit, the player whose time limit was exceeded is disqualified for two minutes of game time (penalty box) and assessed a technical foul (loss of possession and the opposing team selects a player to shoot two free throws)
Draft
In each of two rounds of drafting, each advancing team can select one player from among the combined rosters of the teams that have been eliminated
If both advancing teams (Team A and Team B) select the same player (Player P) in the same round, and Team A is the team responsible for eliminating the team from which Player P is being drafted, Team A will get Player P and Team B must select another player in the current round.
Championship Round
First to 50, but a team must also win by four or more points or have the lead at the end of 24 minutes of game time.
If the score is tied at the expiration of 24 minutes, the team who was first to reach 50 points wins by default.
