My "slow and steady" has come to a grinding halt! I haven't changed my diet at all even after seeing the Doc but already before that visit I had stalled. I've been swimming some the last few weeks, I thought the extra activity might help me drop some weight or get the needle moving down but so far nada. Stuck between 235 and 240. Bah!

I started this trip at 212 in Jan '18.  I simply did lower calorie plus exercise.  I lost about 7 lbs/mo for the first 4 months, then hit a brick wall.  I did allow myself a little more cheating, but not much.  But if I did take off a pound or 2, I would gain them back eating half a sandwich.  I was stuck at about +/-183 for about 2 months.  Then last week it seemed to kick back in.  Down another 5 to 177.  Lowest I've been in a looooong time.  Just about where I want to be.  If I could get below 175, I'd be delighted.  Anyway, your body may be pushing back.  Keep at it and hopefully it gives in and lets you keep losing.

  2. I have 2 more episodes of Season 1 to get through.  Ep 8 where they flash back to what led up to all this makes me think Wendy is a bigger cunt than I originally thought.  She knew what Marty was getting into and encouraged it.  Then when it blows up, she's all incredulous.  Bitch.

  3. Dennis Dodd coming off like an assclown for ripping Bryce Love for going to summer classes instead of P12 Media Day.

    Quote

"Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott had to know on some level this was a bad look—his league's best player not showing for the conference's football rollout."

"But his absence does set a dangerous precedent. This is going to give every star player an excuse to Skype in."

"Let's just say Stanford forfeited a bit of a leverage to protest if Love doesn't win the Heisman. Five different times Cardinal players have finished second in Heisman voting since 2009."

Uh, pretty idiotic.  Kid should be commended.

Yeah i have been googling things a bit off and on for a few months....came across a list called "good old boats" while googling for smaller vessels that are good cruisers since reading that most new ones arent made under 30ft....only names i have seen on the list is a cal30 and Columbia

IF you are thinking solo, think 35 and smaller.  30 would be perfect.  Cals were made in Costa Mesa back in the day and were beefy for what they were.  Not particularly roomy for length, but fantastic sailing vessels.  .  Columbias were similarly built. But make sure your diesel is in really good shape, because you will use it more than you think.  If you do this, I will be eagerly following.  I had a good thread on the old site of our family’s adventure to the South Pacific in the early 80’s where we covered 10,000+ nm over 15 months and was the best experience of my life.

Bruin, can you describe your set up for soloing.  Do you have an autopilot, charting, sail managment, etc. All my sailing has been in lake travis.  Interested to hear what your set up it when you make an offshore run.

Yes I have a Raymarine Evo100 autopilot, which is essential.  But equally essential is a pfd, personal epirb, harness and tether, and waterproof vhf.  If really going deep offshore, run what are called jack lines, which allow a continuous move from bow to stern without disconnecting.  But I do disconnect and reconnect as I move forward.  If you go overboard solo, you are very likely dead without all of the above.  But you just have to be self aware.  I’ve never come close to going over, and I’ve done at least 3,000 nm solo.  Maybe more.

  6. Good deal. Just keep in mind the purchase price of a boat is just small part of the expense of boat ownership. Are you planning on going solo? I wish I could chuck it all and go. Instead I'll have to settle for jaunts to Catalina. Another week out there starting Saturday. Can't wait.

  7. Chilling in destin for a bit...contemplating if i want to try my hand at boat living and maybe sailing around Caribbean in a year or so

Seen a 26ft ericson and a S2 8.0 (26ft) in price i can pay right now and sail right away

And a cal40 that would need work...so probably not....any thoughts on those

What's your experience level? Ericsons are solid. But you need a cruising budget and contingency budget. And don't scrimp and not get a survey. Survey, if done by a qualified surveyor, is an absolute must, or you may be in for some expensive surprises. And heading offshore means preparing for the unexpected. I say do it, but don't rush it. Make sure you and the boat are both ready to go.
  8. There is so much, and so little, to say about them.  They are the most smug, self-entitled, self-absorbed, holier-than-thou-for-no-gotdam-reason sumbitches you will ever come across.  They splatter their trojan shit over everything: vanity license plates, Reyn Spooner shirts, where their Trojan gear to totally unrelated sporting events, fly their flags in front of their houses.  They are what out-of-staters think of when they think of Californians.  I'm getting nauseous typing this so Ima stop.  But I will part with:

I don't understand the placement of the couch.  Seems like they can't use that door at the end.  Plus that girl is filthy.  Make her take a shower before she gets back on the couch.

I like this comment in the youtube comment section:

Once companies realize advertising on Facebook is useless then the whole thing will crash.  P&G quit spending hundreds of millions of dollars on ads on FB and YouTube and it didn't impact their sales at all.

Most of Facebook's users at this point are olds talking to each other and advertisers hate olds.

I fell out of the 18-49 demo a couple of years ago.  But I am still relevant, dammit!

And I've bought a few things through FB ads.

  11. With PAC 12 media day yesterday, it finally feels like football is really almost here.  I thought it made sense to have a single ongoing Pac 12 thread, rather than a bunch of disjointed threads.  Hopefully this can sustain itself throughout the season.  We have enough representatives from various schools that can contribute their takes.

Washington and SC seem to be the class of the conference.  UCLA is going to take a year, hopefully no more, to get its footing under Chip, plus the schedule is absolutely brutal.  Open with Cincy, which is a wildcard but we should win handily.  Then a trip to Norman, which could be ugly, and then home against a Fresno St team that was legit last year.  AZ with Rummy and Kahlil Tate could be the surprise team.  Both Stanford and Oregon look poised to bounce back.  Utah will be solid.  Cal, Colorado, Wazzu and hapless OSU should fill out the bottom of the conference.  And then there's Herm and the Devils.  That could be one of the more intriguing (and comical) storylines of the season.
