Great happy hour vibe at Symphony Square, but I don't eat there since Texas Chili Parlor is so close by.
  2. Pretty much the only checks I actually write these days are the ones that I put directly in the collection plate on Sundays. Glad the situation worked out for you.
  3. We don't always see eye to eye politically, but big pos rep for you having a son that was the Bill Miller chicken guy! Hope that he is doing well. I spent a bunch of time in HS working at Catfish Parlour and I can still put on a righteous catfish fry with all of the trimmings.
  4. Perhaps the best thread on Surly. Thanks.
  5. Love Bill Miller fried chicken!
  6. Even the worst fried chicken I've had has been pretty good.
  7. They don't do fried chicken livers, though. Bush's on Williams Drive is where I go to have that guilty pleasure. With cream gravy, of course!
  8. The Austin Club downtown is starting a Sunday Brunch open to the unwashed masses every 2nd & 4th Sunday, beginning June 9th. 11 am to 1:30 pm. Only $22.95. Bloodys and champagne are extra, of course!
  9. I'm with a group of couples that have rented a large beachfront house in Playa Langosta in February. Anybody have any knowledge of that area? Have not seen it mentioned on this thread. Thanks.
  10. Happy Easter to all of y'all that celebrated it today!
  11. Pretty much a shell with a concrete floor, as I recall.
  12. Pretty clean knee surgery scar though. Pos rep to his surgeon.
  13. Main Street Buda has a pretty cool scene going on. Nate's would be a good place to have a Surly event.
  14. Perfect analogy! I was thinking the same thing when I posted this morning. What a great movie!
  15. There is all kind of due diligence screw ups going on here. Calling out to @YGIFS here, but the Buda EDC is using hotel tax revenue here. They should be accountable to somebody.
  16. So far, no repercussions at Buda EDC. Main Street Buda is thriving. Not really sure why they needed to go all out on Valentina's. That is a big space. Something along the line of a food court like Liberty Hill's Main Street Social would make more sense. And guess what? That place is privately financed!
  17. I had a late lunch meeting there maybe two months ago. I was waiting in the parking lot and watched their provisioning at the back dock. No, it wasn't a Sysco truck, it was two minivans offloading plastic bags of food from HEB. I thought that it looked inefficient and thought that it might be a one off, but now I'm guessing that was the only company they could do business with by then.
  18. It is like a factoring arrangement. In a normal factoring arrangement, a company will sell specific existing customer accounts receivable and will immediately get cash from the lender, say 65% of the face value. What I have been seeing in some restaurant deals is that the borrower is selling future credit card collections for cash today. And the "lender" typically requires the store to use their credit card payment system, so that the "lender" has total control. Like I said, pretty much a doom loop when a company gets involved with a "lender" like that.
  19. I've investigated other failed restaurants. What some lenders do is to freely advance money with no collateral but take direct control of all future credit card receipts. They pretty much have you by the balls at that point. Doom loop.
  20. Armadillo closing was a big deal. The morning that I learned SRV had died was a real gut punch.
  21. Nicely done. What a Friday feast!
  22. Of course, Wally's was just the Dairy Queen back in my early Fine Trojan days. We had a friend that worked there who convinced us to never order one of those frosty's! Made of pretty nasty stuff.
  23. Top Notch and Conan's are still haunts that I go to with my now ancient HS friends. Go Trojans!
  24. I have a hunch that you are on to something there. Crazy that Buda EDC did that when there is already a pretty vibrant food and drink culture on Main Street.
