A friend had his wedding rehearsal dinner at the K-Bob's in Lufkin, apparently the nicest place in town 40 years ago. (We were allowed to bring our own wine, so we had that going for us -- which is nice.)

Just seeing this news about dead and injured -- very sad story.

This. Try rotating through the second-generation anti-histamines. This is exactly the strategy I use.
I do the same thing, but my rotation is more like weekly. Breathing is not optional.

BREAKING: Suspect in Waukesha ‘mass casualty incident’ identified as career criminal Darrell E. Brooks

https://thepostmillennial.com/breaking-suspect-in-waukesha-mass-casualty-incident-identified-as-career-criminal-darrell-e-brooksTell that to the judge that let him off with $1000 in bail. She was appointed by Scott Walker, so you can probably figure out her political alignment, so you can go bitch about it in CR.
Thanks for bringing politics into my factual post about a tragic breaking story.

Just awful. The plastic barriers blocking the parade route clearly aren't enough for these kinds of events. Seems every year we have a few mass casualty events at festivals where some asshole with a truck runs through people. Hope they find all the human scum that did it and kill them on sight. Save everyone a lot of trouble.
It might take more than plastic barriers. Maybe it would be helpful to keep criminals locked up?

Nice buck! He would be awesome with another year. As you say, not likely, but there’s a chance. Things have changed in many parts of Texas. I saw at least a half dozen bucks this weekend on our little low fence place that are bigger than anything I ever saw hunting the hill country in the 80s-early 2000’s; they would have been shot years before now. Antler restrictions, trail cameras, high fences, the internet, etc have all changed hunting society. Good luckAdd great range conditions to the variables. Lots of rain the past two seasons.

CHIEF Jr. is texting some chick in Vernon that lives in Seymour. He has about 3-4 lined up out here. I asked him what is the first question you ask them? His answer? “How Much land you got in your family?” I raised him right. A thousand acres raises a girl’s value a full point. A seven with 3000 acres is a ten. The gal from Seymour, he says, is a “butterface” but they have several thousand acres.

Definitely one of the bad life choices I made in college. Just didn't appreciate how much prettier a girl with a ranch (or ranches) was.

Well we’ve listened to serious concerns from serious political leaders about gender pronouns regarding Mister Potato Head, the sexuality of Superman, the marital status of Murphy Brown, and now the ethnicity of Bert & Ernie. And dozens more like this over the years.
I am opposed vehemently to ‘woke cancel culture’, but at least it involves real people. I’m trying to understand why we’re politicizing toys, comic books, and puppets. But here we are. Makes sense since

Started my son with a single-shot .223 when he was 6 or 7. He graduated to a bolt action .243 a couple of years later.

More condos is good news?
Amaya's will have a permanent home. Greatest menudo on the west side of I-35 (at least in Austin)!

If it hadn't been cold enough to keep the snow from melting for 7 days, we'd have been fucked.
We filled our bathtubs for flushing water. Then the line to the septic tank froze up to thwart our best-laid plans. I enjoy a solid outside shit in the cold and snow. The wife -- not so much. Good times.

They had a store in Austin on Burnet Road. Basic fried seafood. Seemed popular.

Last meal there was cabrito with my dad. A few weeks ago had cabrito with him at this place in San Antonio and it was very very good. Scratched the right itch. https://www.solunasa.com/
Hadn't heard of this place. What a menu! I think that I'd want one of everything.

Do any of the Austin OGs remember that restaurant on Barton Springs next to Peter Pan called Treehouse or something like that? I swear I went there for like my 4th b-day one year and literally nobody remembers it. I'm starting to wonder if I imagined it.

Macedrick's Treehouse. 1155 Barton Springs Road.

As a kid, Bonanza and Pancho's were amazing. A couple of years ago, we tracked down a Pancho's in Forth Worth, and I took my parents and sister there. Just like old times. The experience and the tastes were exactly as they had been 40 years ago. Those chiles rellenos!
My freshman year in college, a group of guys on our floor had a Friday night free and decided to go to Steak and Ale. We did our best to dress up and act like grown ups. It cost us what we thought was a fortune. Looking back, it was so goofy, but I remember that night so clearly. It's a happy memory. I wonder where those guys all are now.
We all thought that Steak & Ale was the ultimate back in HS/College days. Had some friends that worked there and we all ate the leftovers they brought back for our late night drinking events. Good times.

Maybe a bit off thread, but it looks like there will be one more restaurant that we won't have to miss.

Not sure where to put this, but good news, nonetheless:

We took our kids to the Far West El Arroyo all the time when they were little. But the last few years or so it went downhill in terms of quality and service. Hope this place sticks around.
Same here. That was our standard Sunday after church place to go with the kids. Once the Winstanley's took the joint over and started serving cold, bagged chips with salsa that wasn't made on-site -- that location went into a death spiral.

I'll give that burger joint a shot. Cielo sucked ass and I'm not surprised one bit that it failed.
Clay is a great guy and really knows his shit about restaurants.

We ate the hell out of the Pancho's on Oltorf on Sunday nights in college. We once had a taco eating contest there wherein one of my fraternity brothers briefly consumed around 17 tacos IIRC. Good times.
