Little T'Boo wants to bird hunt in the fall with me.  He was my bird fetcher last year due to the loss of my GSP and wants to start taking part in shooting aside from busting empty Bud Heavy cans with his BB gun.

I did not grow up hunting so please forgive my ignorance.  Would a 20 gauge be too much to start or would a .410 be optimal?

He will be 9 by that time.  tall and lanky.

    Thanks

I've said this up-thread or on other site -- I started my son at about that age (maybe a year younger) with a single-shot, crack-open 20 gauge.  The visual image of it being either loaded or unloaded was good, plus he learned to take a well-aimed shot.  He moved up to a youth pump 20 gauge after a couple of seasons.  Now I keep his old single shot gun handy to dispatch raccoons and such that get too close to my chicken coop.  Win-win.

Is it true that AISD spends $11,000/year on each east side students vs. $7,000 for west side kids.... and that’s why the west side PTAs are raising money to pay for additional staff to make up for their shortage?

That seems logical.  Not as many ESL educational services are required on the west side, I'm thinking.

  3. Thought that this was a good thread to resurrect.

Want to give a big shout-out to Discount Tire.  They have really upped their game lately -- I'm guessing the "pandemic" had something to do with it.

I bought my replacement tires online and scheduled an appointment for installation.  Once I checked in at the suggested 15 minutes prior to my appointment, the tech used a new handheld electronic tire scanner to verify the condition of all my tires (I was only replacing two).  Then I was put into the queue at #1.

While I was in the store reading a magazine I brought with me, I was hearing walk-up customers being told that it would likely be a three, three and a half hour wait for their installation to be complete.

I was out of there with my new tires just 30 minutes after the scheduled appointment time.  Winning.

City staff estimates it will cost a cool $180K annually per person per outdoor campsite.  Get ready for the next wave of fuckery.

Not sure where you are getting the $180K/per resident.  The higher cost per resident population 50 camp is estimated at $1,368,800.  $1,368,800 divided by 50 results in $27,376, per resident annually -- at least on my calculator.  Maybe you are saying that a typical City of Austin project budget is normally underestimated by a factor of 6?

    Entirely possible.

If they did then they would implement quality control.

That was why I never did anything injectable, ever.  Didn't trust was was in the product (or the strength that it was cut to).  Silly me, I never knew that a pill, a puff, or a snort could kill you just as easily as an injectable now that fentanyl is in the mix.

Good to be older and wiser.  RIP to Jake.

Nah, want some Q though I know Bill Miller has some good chicken.

My advice was fully tongue in cheek.  There's always a Rudy's somewhere!

I’ll be working in San Antonio tomorrow around loop 410 and 35. Anything worth trying that way?

Lots of Bill Miller Bar-B-Q locations down there.  I can recommend the Fried Chicken and French Fries.

This is going to present quite the dilemma for the 5th Circuit.  On the one hand, I'm reasonably sure their bankruptcy philosophy is fairly anti-debtor, meaning they're going to want to find a great deal of "discretion" or leeway for dismissing for abuse.  On the other hand, they're all about allowing corporations to do unto others, so there's that.

Maybe they'll do the ultimate GQP and set up one rule for corporate debtors in Ch. 11, and another rule for individual debtors in Chs. 7 & 13.

I'm sure that the mastermind lawyer at the top of Comerica Tower in Dallas is patting Wayne on the head and telling him "this is working out great, we've got 'em right where we want them" and also, "here is our most recent invoice for the work completed through yesterday midnight, we'd appreciate a wire transfer payment before the cutoff time tomorrow."

Absolutely.  Also, the Bob Newhart Show episode where Emily goes to Seattle for Thanksgiving, leaving Bob at home by himself and Jerry, Carlin, Howard, and Peterson come over and get drunk and order Chinese food.

    More Moo Goo Gai Pan!

As an Army kid, I remember about once a month some kid in my school lost their dad in combat in Vietnam.  I was about 10 years old (1968) but it  left an ever lasting impression on how happiness can change so quickly.  Never will forget the day my good friend told me his dad got killed when his helicopter got shot down.

Yep.  I'll never forget my Cub Scout Den Mother showing us the helmet of her newly deceased helicopter pilot husband and father of one of my fellow Cub Scouts.

Getting ahead of myself, but this would be a great way to close out this series:

6.5. 5 10-Run Rule. ... By Conference rule, however, in Big 12 Conference play, the mercy-rule (10-run lead after the seventh inning) will be enforced only for double-headers, the last playing opportunity of a series and the non-championship games of the Big 12 Championship.

    Who knew?  Glorious.
