  1. Wiped out a doe and her two fawns on a bridge west of Menard early one Sunday morning.  It was dark and raining like crazy and an 18-wheeler was coming the other way.  It was easy to see that it was them or me, and my back was up against the wall.

  2. Buzzard.  Indian Nation Turnpike with a posted speed of 85.  This was in Spring season when the terrapins are on the move and they also provide a buffet along the highway.  The buzzard was late to fly and cracked my windshield in its final act.  Good times.

  3. We have a similar camp setup with a couple of buildings, porches, and a courtyard.  I've never tried doing a mobile hot spot other than in the building where the booster is located, but there are definitely more bars on your phone (plenty to receive texts or emails) when on the porch or in the courtyard.

  4. We installed a ZBoost (Model ZB575-A, I think) out at our hunting camp and have gone from spotty one band service to 3 or 4 bands, enough signal to be able to use a cell phone WiFi hot spot effectively.

Don't recall what the piece cost us, but definitely less than $300, plus some materials and our labor to finesse getting an antenna up to the horizon level.  We used PVC pipe as the antenna pole.  We did this a couple of years ago, so there are likely better products out there by now, but I can attest that the booster works.

    Good luck.

it was securities fraud as well though

they were packaging loans and securitizing them and then selling those packages off that is 100% federal

they were not just bribing local bank officials to make shitty loans they were then selling those shitty loans off in packages made up of at least some % of those shitty loans

Good point.  Lots of that stuff gets securitized. Maybe only the smaller credit unions keep auto paper as portfolio loans these day.

This is great and all, but again I must express dismay that this is being prosecuted as a federal crime.

I get that Okie cops may be too stupid or corrupt to investigate this adequately, and perhaps the fix might be in in an Oklahoma court, but I think you have to give them first crack at it.  As usual, there is nothing particularly federal about these crimes.

Bank fraud involving a federally insured financial institution seems kinda like a federal crime to me.  IIRC, the US Secret Service, in particular, plays a big role in bank and wire fraud investigations.  You can bet that the regulators will be (or already have been) all over this financial institution for multiple regulatory violations and unsafe and unsound lending practices, et al.

Make sure your shirt doesn’t get caught on the butt of your shotgun when you’re torching off 12-ga. high brass while trying to make a quick shot on a surprise dove rocketing by.  The butt is the shotgun is supposed to nest on your shoulder and not on your bicep.

Yep.  And that's why I have rifle scope scar between my eyebrows from forgetting to ground my deer rifle to my shoulder before pulling the trigger.  I did kill the deer, so I've got that going for me...  I was almost as bloody as the the deer when I was field dressing it.  Lesson learned.

Not a fan of JWP at all but the last sentence is oft repeated and just not accurate.

So, you are saying that he carried even more water for South Dallas than for rich white men?  We all know about the Perot water carrying (rich white men, one would assume), so there must be much more South Dallas water carrying out there not yet disclosed.

  9. PSA:

    Luby’s liver and onions

    Ingredients
    • 2 pounds beef liver, cut into 4 steaks
    • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
    • 1 large yellow onion, sliced into 1/4 inch slices
    • Kosher salt
    • Black pepper
    • 1/2 cup whole milk
    • 1 large egg
    • 2 cups breadcrumbs
    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

    Instructions

    1. Place the liver in a mixing bowl. Cover with water and let it soak for 15 to 20 minutes.

    2. In a large cast-iron skillet, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Add the onions and cook, while stirring occasionally, until tender and lightly browned. Remove from the skillet and season to taste with salt.

    3. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the milk and eggs until well blended. Place the bread crumbs on a plate.

    4. Rinse the liver under cool running water and then pat dry with paper towels. Lightly season each side with salt and pepper. Dip into the milk mixture, then into the bread crumbs, coating evenly.

    5. Pour the oil into the skillet that you used for the onions, and turn the heat to medium heat.

    6. After the oil has heated, add the liver and cook 2 to 3 minutes on each side or until cooked through. Top with the onions.

We're looking to start replacing a few of the ground and tower blinds at our place soon. Curious to what yall may recommend. Mainly wanting to spend less than $1000 per blind. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Check out Craigslist.  There are a shit-ton of them on there in your price range in Texas.

  11. Did a small test batch of the North East ISD enchilada recipe tonight.  It was solid, but I'll probably keep on using the canned red enchilada sauce like I've always done rather than following their recipe for the enchilada sauce -- just not much difference from the canned stuff.  OTOH, the chili gravy is perfect -- I'll keep using that.  I was surprised at how well simply steaming the whole batch of corn tortillas worked -- as opposed to heating them in oil in a skillet one by one as most recipes call for.  Much simpler and faster.  Good stuff.
