Renting an exotic car to get on a highway that is basically one lane for several hours doesn’t sound like the best investment especially if it’s hot out and many of those don’t have a/c and you are at the mercy of the slowest car on the road... Save that bucket list item and fly into Germany and hit the autobahn on another trip... (150+ mph in an X5 with family onboard will cause a pucker that I won’t do again...)
Agreed. I don't get the appeal of a convertible in hot/humid/trafficky conditions. We rented a pretty cool Cadillac CTS our last trip down there. The big engine and the air conditioning were a major plus on the trip down and back. We parked it at the EYW hotel and walked/shuttled/UBERed the rest of the time we were in EYW.

I learned to ride a bike with help from my Dad on Christmas Day when I was 7 on the bike that "Santa" had supposedly brought through the chimney. Once I'd mastered the bike riding, I looked my Dad straight in the eyes and said something to the effect of "Santa is really you and Mom, isn't it?" My Dad fessed up and told me not to tell my little brother. I became a man that day.

Duval Street is the biggest part of a successful debauched Key West trip. You will be chucking your car once you get there. There is a cool Hyatt, the Jimmy Buffett place, I'm not Googling right now, but there are lots more places that will work. You want to be on the south side of Key West near Duval Street.

Travis County did some fine investigative work on that case -- analyzing several years worth of liquor purchasing records, including types, quantities, and the time of day of said purchase. That may or may not have influenced my increased utilization of cash in conducting certain transactions for certain products.

I could fly into MIA - rent a convertible M4 or a ferrari or something, drive to key west - get hammered and eat well, sleep - drive back to miami, rinse repeat wake up fly home.
That actually sounds like a pretty cool "solo" trip.
FLL is actually easier than MIA. There is a toll road from there down to US 1 (west of Miami proper) so you don't have to mess with Miami traffic and such. There is also a cool Hard Rock Seminole Casino with the Guitar Hotel along your way if you wanted to get your gambling game on this trip.

It’s easier to add hardwood chunks to charcoal. That’s it for me.
OK, just using some charcoal as a fire starter base. That makes sense.
I don't like the smell or taste of charcoal unless I'm just grilling a burger or doing a steak sear in a charcoal chimney. Either way, as Sam Lin said above, all of the nasty stuff needs to burn off before adding any meat.

My go-to recipe is chicken fried breast. I've tried to roast a whole wild turkey and even tried to smoke one. Both were pretty tough. From my experience, the breast is good, but the thighs and legs aren't worth doing anything special. The last time I harvested a wild turkey, we actually used the wings, thighs and legs in gumbo. That was probably the best use I've found so far. Would love to hear if anyone has any whole bird recipes.
You're not wrong. Everything other than the breast needs to go in gumbo (don't forget the neck and the gizzards), though smoking those parts first makes for a great, dark gumbo. I have wet-brined and smoked the breasts whole or halved with good results. Aside from frying the whole breast, you can cut it up into smaller cutlets, pound them flat, bread them up, and have some great turkey chicken-fried steaks.
A nice benefit of not trying to do a whole turkey cook is that there is no need to screw around with plucking the harvested bird. Just pull the skin off, eviscerate, and turn it into groceries.
P.S. -- Just like with deer, it's better to let a turkey hang in a cool environment for a while before doing all of the processing and freezing. It lets the enzymes do their thing and really improves the meat. The hardcore French do this on all game birds and let them hang until they fall down from the neck rotting off. I'm not quite that hard core, but some aging really does improve the flavor and tenderness of any meat.

I just got a bill for $64 for some January transactions on 183-A. The bill also had the message, "You could have saved $22 with a tag!" -- guess what, I do have a tag, asswipes. Infuriating.
Just got onto team NTTA TollTag tonight after trying to deal with this TXTag mess. Thanks for the above suggestions!

And why are y'all using charcoal, anyway? Is there some shortage of proper barbecue wood due to the pandemic-related events of the last year or so? I don't recall Franklin's manifesto ever calling for charcoal, just clean, hot smoke from a hardwood fire.
On a related note, the ice storm has provided me with what is likely a lifetime supply of live oak barbecue wood once I get it all cut up and cured and dried. So I've got that going for me -- which is nice.

This seems like a good place to mention that a fuck ton of left-leaning posters are condemning her on this issue, while I haven’t heard peep from our resident conservatives about MTG, Boebert, Hawley, Cruz, or anyone else on that side who have done and said FAR worse things over the past days/weeks/months/years. I’m sure they just forgot.

Focus on priorities, people.
You guys are wasting lots of band-width that could be better utilized with topics related to Longhorn sports, barbecue, drinking stories, and titties, among others.

You need to do that drive at least once in your lifetime. The whole history of that highway and the rail line that preceded it is very cool. There is a reason that so much stuff in Florida is named Flagler. Read up on it.
