White guy here. Earlier generations of my family were never wealthy enough to own slaves. They did receive some original land grants as early settlers in the times leading up to the establishment of the Republic of Texas. Many acres of that land were lost to the reconstruction era property tax land grab schemes. My late great grandmother (born in 1892) told stories (one generation removed, obviously) of reconstruction era carpet baggers harassing land owners, threatening foreclosures, indiscriminately assessing valuations and taxes and generally letting them know that they needed to sign over their deeds to them if they knew what was good for them. History is way more complicated than what you see on TV or on the internet.

That is a spitting image of my first car except for the tail and window fins (don't think that was original on that model, anyway) and that mine had a red interior. Bought it in 1975 for $950. Never should have sold it. I carried two bags of sand in the trunk because it was so light in the rear that it was prone to swaying on a fast acceleration or in slippery road conditions.

I've logged probably a million miles in seat 64K on a BA 744.
Pay attention folks -- that's how to do a humblebrag.

I've been using Hunter's Creek for a while and have always been impressed with their operation. They are near Liberty Hill on 183 north of Highway 29.

If you are going to roll with a real plate and parsley, best to throw a firearm in the picture just to anchor it.
Good advice, but I'm really hoping that was cilantro rather than parsley.

My bride scored 5 thick NY strips from Costco today. I froze them flat and then vacuum sealed them. Fuck the clampdown.

Grandsons come first, for sure. But I'm in for that size range and I'm likely not the Lone Ranger. Please let us know.

Check this out. Cleaning out the residence of my recently deceased father-in-law. He was a panhandle DA that was in place for a long time and had a reputation of putting people away. Anyway, he was the larger-than-life type of lawyer that would have worn boots with his suit daily. So I am going through his closet and come across boxes and boxes of boots. He was a bigger guy than me so I wasn't able to pinch any but one pair of lizards.
Anyway, scope these. Not sure of the story, but I have looked and I can't find anything about Tony Lama ever mass producing a Texas Ranger branded boot. He had all kinds of "swag" around including some stuff from a governor or two. But these boots interest me most. Wife was going to put them in a garage sale this weekend, but I held them back.
What size? I bet you could sell all those boots out amongst your Surly brethren in an hour or two.

When I was a teenager in Corpus in the 70s I would see a car burning blue smoke like crazy every other day (worn compression rings, I think). I could count on one hand the number of times I've seen it the last ten years.
Errbody seems to drive better cars these days.

Shit going down after County District Attorney did some auditing. Five of the six are charged with falsifying government documents used in narcotics investigations.

This guy seems to be good at knowing what is going on with NDA's and non-compete's in Texas.

Inground pool all the way. Couldn't wait until our kids got old enough to have had swimming lessons and to be semi-drownproofed so we could buy a house with a pool. Two houses later -- after the kids are out of the house, we now have no pool to maintain but some acreage that needs work, so we've got that going for us, which is nice.

I use Brushtox from Tractor Supply. 4 diesel to 1 brushtox plus a little dish soap in my pump sprayer. Apply when no rain is in the forecast for a bit. Those stumps will die.
Just saw the above comment about foam brush. There is an adjustment on my pump sprayer head that allows me to do pretty close work -- also another reason to not do an application when rain is in the forecast.

Anyone else use a pumice stone?
Pumice stones have always been my go to. It's funny how they never rust out.

Please pardon the poor quality of the images. We saw these about 100 feet apart on the Devil's Hall Trail at Guadalupe Mountains National Park in 2005. I don't think that I have seen one in the wild since then. I had never seen one like the bottom one until then, and we saw two on the trail that day.
The last one I saw had an unfortunate encounter with my truck tire in a pasture at my deer lease west of Brady in the late 1980s. Love those guys, but haven't seen one since.

So does Dirty’s own the dirt? Hard to believe a place like that which leases could shut down for so long without folding.
That property has been owned by Mark Nemir's family for a couple of generations.

Hello Friends,
Many of you have been inquiring about when will we reopen. As much as we would like to say tomorrow, we have decided to prolong the reopening until the beginning of August. Bottom line is we need to be able to operate profitable to be able to stay in business.
With that said, we are shooting for Saturday, August 1st for the official reopening of Dirty Martin’s. We cannot wait for early August to fire up the grill again and welcome y’all back, our staff certainly missed seeing all of our beloved customers. So until then, hope y’all are having an enjoyable summer and don’t forget to “kum-bak” to Dirty’s in August!

My apologies, I didn't make it clear enough for you. The carpetbaggers took over local governments and effectively stole land during reconstruction.
