Good to see that the Wall Street Journal editorial board has finally seen the light:
Rethinking the Coronavirus Shutdown
No society can safeguard public health for long at the cost of its economic health.

Im not wholly opposed to non-career lawyers as Justices. Â
One of my major problems with the current batch of justices, and most of them during my lifetime is that they are all of a type.
The Ronan Farrow suggestion is interesting. He's very accomplished. He's also hugely privileged.
IDK. I think that the track of highly academic lawyers that come from solid law schools, who clerk with good and experienced judges and who actually practice law with AV law firms is a damn good model for folks that are nominated into the judicial systems at all levels. Importantly, the Supreme Court!

He has almost zero experience as a practicing attorney and none as a judge.  Discuss.
Not much to discuss. This is a really dumb idea.

This came up in another thread, but it's interesting to think about how much cash Tilman Fertitta is hemorrhaging on a daily basis. Casinos, cruises, restaurants, an NBA franchise in limbo, amusement parks (still open as of last night), hotels...he's like a one-man Las Vegas, and Vegas is not going to fare well.Â
No shit. I'm so excited about all of the Morton's Steakhouse "to go deals" that he's been sending out emails about. No thanks. They are so screwed.

No doubt that the powers that be are placing a priority on this potential medical threat versus placing a priority on a very real economic catastrophe. Benjamin Franklin said something to the effect of "those that would trade liberty for security will end up with neither" -- I think that is where we are headed with all of this nonsense.

So it is coming as something of a realization that I can actually do my job from home.
Perhaps next summer, I'll just rent an apartment in Paris or Rome or Shanghai for a month. Let the wife and kids go do their thing during the day and join them in the evenings/weekends. Â
I did that for 10 days in Kauai a few years ago. I talked on the phone to clients and my partners and none of them had a clue that I was several time zones away.

Dollar cost average down my holdings in LUV and BA. Way underwater!

Do they understand that this virus is brutal for the typical Nashville tourist?  It hits those with diabetes, heart disease, and over the age of 65 pretty hard. Â
Hardly:Â https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/bachelorette-party-nashville-tennessee/index.html

I'll leave it to the reader to conclude if this NBA season will finish.

So, women's soccer and basketball is good to go then?

I’d guess under a state of emergency, the state can do whatever they deem necessary. But why bars and not restaurants? Couldn't they decree that they operate at a lesser capacity like they are doing with restaurants?
-
OK, Surly Legal Eagles --
How does OH, IL, and now CA get away with the disparate impact of completely closing all bars, but allowing restaurants to either do takeout or to do limited capacity dining room service, all in the name of the same "public health crisis?" Doesn't seem to be an equitable government mandate.

90% of the cases from China?  Please don’t post old ass shit.  This is either really old or you guys stole this doc from aggy. Â
As I said when the video was posted and acknowledged that it was now 2.5 weeks old, "OK, lets update some of the numbers. Does anything he is saying about the virus sound any different than what folks are currently describing?" Â
I see nothing inconsistent between the video and the notes of the meeting (aside from the ridiculous and speculative estimate of 1.6 million American deaths.)

Anyone have a recommendation for a succinct source of infection and death statistics in the US?

I don’t want recommendations on hand washing, face touching, social distancing, Trumps failures, death pits in Iran, updates on bakery closures in Naples, South Korean strategy, ...

There were around 5 people at Randall’s today. The meat and eggs were gone but they had most everything elseÂ
Same here. Fresh red meat counter wiped out, but the fresh seafood counter was full. Sliced meats and cheeses were gone but plenty of other frozen meat, bacon and sausage. Ain't nobody gonna starve. Plus, they had toilet paper and large quantities of bottled water. Who knew?

APD officer Ralph Alblanedo was gunned down by a drug dealer over by Travis High school that same day.Â
The drug dealer got the needle in Huntsville and the Murchison shooter got a UT Law degree and a bar card. Roy Minton FTW, baby!
