The chase is the same high fenced or low fenced so long as the place is big enough.  High fences just stop the neighbor with 30 acres from putting out 8 stands and feeders and shooting everything that’s brown.  People like that really hate high fences.

Your point is well-taken.  There are so many 200-300 acre (or less) high-fenced places in Central Texas and the hill country.  That's what I'm not crazy about.  High fencing totally makes sense as a defensive strategy on big ranches.

  2. I hear that this is the last night for the current incarnation of The Loon.  Moving down McKinney near Breadwinners at Hall Street.  Wasn't a fan of new location.  I hope that they get their mojo back!

Just cannot get into shooting a breeder buck.  Not my thing.

Totally agree.  When they have a tag or a chip, it's just like shooting a cow in a pasture.  Hunting ought to be different than a feedlot slaughterhouse.  I am not a fan of high fences.

I’ve killed so many culls in my day.  Pretty much all I do.  The trophies hanging on my wall aren’t that impressive.  I do have a bunch of really nice 8s though.  And i love those.

For me, it's culls or my own Holy Grail -- a drop tine buck.  I have no other interest in horn hunting now.

  5. I've said this many times on other threads.  If you are gonna drive an MB (or any other high-end car, for that matter), you need to find a solid independent repair shop that specializes in them.  The "free coffee" that you will drink at the MB Dealership will be the most expensive coffee you ever consumed!  I can highly recommend Northwest Imports in Austin and Trinity Auto Haus in Waco.

  6. Interesting list.  It has a broader historical viewpoint than the Rolling Stone's rankings from a couple of months ago.

If you leave on Monday am and are back Thursday night that’s really not that bad.  Hell a 3 night break from the wife would be a good thing on the relationship I would think.  We need our space lol.

Truth.  If I'm in town for a week or so, my bride will usually ask [tell] me, "Don't you need to go somewhere and see some clients?"

In the middle of pig sandwich country, you can't just drive past a place named "Texas Pit BBQ" and not stop to give it a try.

Bark was definitely on the thinner side, but the owner was clearly from Texas. High quality meat, and the brisket was tender and moist through and through.

Not gonna beat top of the line Hill Country joints, but it's hell and gone better than anything in Brazos County.

I forgot to take pictures until we were packing up leftovers. I had sliced brisket & sausage; wife and boy had chopped brisket sammiches. They don't put sauce on anything, which freaks out the locals, but they have a variety of sauces on the table.

  9. Did Tratorria Lisina out in Driftwood with the bride tonight.  First time in about five years.  Still a memorable place with great food, wine, setting and service.  Started with the Antipasti E Salumi Misti along with wine then moved on to entrees.  My Osso Buco was perfection and the bride raved about her pan fried Mahi Mahi (one of tonight's feature items).  Worth a special trip.

Santa Catarina - On Cypress Creek, they also have a location in Lakeway I think but I've not been there.  They have a nice mix of interior Mexican and Tex-Mex.  Dishes like queso fundido, totopos, campechana, sopes, assorted meats and fishes grilled Mexican-style, and some rellenos and enchiladas that straddle Tex-Mex and Mex-Mex.  Really great happy hour prices on appetizers and decent drink specials.

^This is a really good place.  Fun atmosphere.  I still enjoy going to Fonda San Miguel, but it may just be the nostalgia kicking in to gear.
