  1. I know that this ages me, but the Villa Capri (where the Longhorn football practice bubble is now located) was considered to be fine dining in Austin when @Armybrat and I were growing up. Here are some of their TV commercials. https://texasarchive.org/2010_01862
  2. Yep Hyatt Regency site. That Christie's place was some pretty high cotton when I was growing up in Austin. Just like the Villa Capri! Link to some great old commercials: https://texasarchive.org/2010_01862
  3. That recipe does look worthwhile!
  4. I saw Earl and his brothers eating those.
  5. Well, this was a pretty important date in Austin (and Texas)history! In 1971, the Most Important Drink in Austin’s History Crossed the Bar https://austin.towers.net/in-1971-the-most-important-drink-in-austin-history-crossed-the-bar/?pro=jude@towers.net
  6. James is my favorite book in the bible. I try to read it every month. If folks lived up to even half of what that book says, the world would be a much better place.
  7. Timely for me. I just went to the funeral of my 91 y/o uncle who spent his life as a Baptist minister. He explained it to me as how they don't disagree with the Nicene Creed or even The Lord's Prayer, they just don't believe in the recitation of such stuff in public worship is appropriate. Vain words and all. I hope that every word spoken at my funeral comes straight from the 1928 BCP!
  8. Love Omaha. Playing golf at Dodge park at dawn on the other side of the river every time I've been to a Texas CWS has been a staple for me and my crew!
  9. Austin is going to become a sundown town? https://austinfreepress.org/sundown-home-town/
  10. Hotels are like airlines. Huge fixed costs. Limited variable costs. Volume-cost-profit is the key. They kill it when they kill it. They suck when they don't.
  11. We have never found better calamari than what Duke's serves. The Kauai store by the Marriot near the airport is a great way to enjoy life before getting on the plane, but we've also been to their stores on other islands and in California. Never a miss.
  12. I know that I have said this on other threads, but we always go to the island Costco for proteins, be it local fish or some frozen proteins (read: steak), and then hit the daily farmer's markets for veggies or salads while we tourist around.
  13. Kauai is the nuts. Hamura Saiman Stand will set the tone after you get off the plane in Lihue.
  14. Ridic that you can eat prime steaks for less than brisket these days. It's yardbird or pork butts when I do stuff at home lately.
  15. I've never tried, but it seems like a worthy endeavor.

  17. Pos rep for bloody Bloody Bulls. Great flavor combo.
  18. Saturday morning menudo! Brother from another Mother?
  19. The "I'm an Alcoholic" thread is over there. ---->
  20. With the Clamato, you are approaching a Canadian Bloody Caesar. Both are great. For a change of pace, use Gin instead of Vodka. And also, it is hard to beat Zing Zang as your base mixer.
  21. Pay attention, folks. This is a world class humblebrag!
  22. Peet's Whole Bean Dark French Roast is my standard. I grind some beans every morning and use my French Press. I may or may not add some Wild Turkey or Brandy to my cup from time to time.
  23. Fresh ground beans and a French press is the way. Simple and effective.
  24. This seemed like an interesting piece in the May D Magazine. Anybody have on the ground experience with these places? Why Are Iraqi Burgers So Good? https://www.dmagazine.com/publications/d-magazine/2024/may/why-are-iraqi-burgers-so-good/
