I like Bad Company.  Although I've long said, if your first album has the same name as the band and the same name as your first hit song, you probably won't be around for long.  See: Big Country.  Bad Company is the exception to this rule.  How about this one:

A ton of great music on that album:

Plus, that album got them into the Rock & Roll hall of Fame:  https://www.rockhall.com/inductees/chicago

Any and all advice or mockery appreciated. I'm already planning on what I'll do differently next time. Learned a TON.

You are overthinking it.  If you trimmed your brisket right -- cleaned up all the edges and took down the fat to 1/4 inch or so, all you need to do is wrap it in butcher paper after 4 or 5 hours (whenever it hits the stall around 165-175 temp) and put it in a low oven (225-ish temp) until it is done somewhere around 205-ish temp.  There is only so much smoke that a brisket needs or can absorb.  I think an oven is a much better way to finish the endeavor.  Drink a beer and go to sleep.  Wake up to a great aroma and some excellent brisket.  Make sure to let it rest for 30+ minutes before slicing the flat against the grain.  Don't separate the point, and slice it the opposite of the flat.

  3. Interesting post.  "Dry" fraternity does not compute, but it seems that all of the national HQ's are forcing their active chapters to adopt such a policy.  Pretty sure that I wouldn't have wanted to pledge into a fraternity of a bunch of snowflakes and teetotalers!

Two pain in the ass type characters Robert Duvall played to perfection were Beatrice attorney Jerry Facher in A Civil Action and writer/ cartoonist Max Mercy in The Natural.

Hard to imagine anyone else giving a better portrayal while halfway endearing themselves to audience, regardless of how shitty their characters were.

I'd forgotten about both of those!  The guy has a huge body of work.

  5. If you are an aviation nut, even a little bit -- this place is great:  http://www.theperfectlanding.com/

It's at Centennial Airport, south of downtown.  Big windows to view all of the runway ops.  Their airport traffic is a nice mix of heavy and light corporate jets, multi and single props, vintage and even some military.

Their piano bar happy hour crowd is heavily MILF.  Fun place.

  6. Hits close to home.  I had a cousin that drowned at age 5.  We held off on getting a house with a pool until the youngest was 6 and a swimmer.  The other thing we did was enforcing a strict "buddy rule" with our kids -- nobody could be in the pool alone.

Haven’t seen a single super hero movie since the first Christian Bale Batman. No Iron Man, Avenger, Captain America etc. also haven’t seen a single Mission Impossible movie.

Congrats.  It seems that you've missed no "Big Movies."

    Wine is pretty competitive.

Agree, especially if you do the six bottles at a time 10% discount combined with their loyalty card discount.  I have a burner loyalty card with them because I hate giving away personal info like that.

In-state public with parents footing the bill isn't always that much different than private anywhere else.  I wouldn't presume to lecture anyone on their choices regarding college for their kids.  There is no evidence Brisket is being held hostage by his daughter.  He wants her to have the optimal experience for her chosen field -- oh, the horror!

    Surly gonna surly.

No lecturing here.  I'm just saying how it went down at my house.

I dunno, I'm old and kids visited schools they were interested in.  I did.  I liked UT better than other places.  Rice was intriguing, but I knew I would have more fun at UT and didn't think there was much sacrifice if any (there wasn't really) in academics.  I did not, however, look at schools I didn't think I would get into.

I was conscious, as were my parents, of not wanting to go too far, both for visiting reasons and because I felt I would make my career and life here.

I was aware of cost, but my parents pretty much acted like it was no object.  I was not initially aware of how staggeringly cheap UT was (It was cheaper than community college the entire time I was enrolled).

I freely admit to being a world-class curmudgeon.  I told my kids they could go to college any place they wanted to, but if they expected their Mom and I to fully pay for it -- they needed to attend an in-state public school for their undergrad degree. YMMV.
