  1. Agreed. This type of ceremony has gotten out of hand. Same for when a firefighter or EMT dies in the course of duty. Obviously tragic and deserving of respect and recognition. That said, why does almost every single big and even the podunk departments from all around the state have to send vehicles and personnel to participate? Even just all of the locals is a bunch of equipment and folks (which raises the question of why we have so many police departments in just the Austin Metro -- it has to be around 50 when counting APD/smaller cities/county sheriff departments/school districts/airports/parks/community colleges/hospitals, etc.), but at least those guys have some connection to the fallen that is being honored. It strikes me as basically a two-day paid vacation for all of the out of towners and a huge expenditure of taxpayer funded resources. And that doesn't even address the disruption of the citizenry before, during, and after the event. P.S. I was pretty shocked to see all of the para-military equipment that was rolling today. Who knew that we own/need all of that stuff?

  6. Respect to the fallen and all that, but it looks like it is going to be a real shit-show all over Austin tomorrow.

  8. This is a Travis County jury. That dumb fucks conclusion is most likely true, regardless of their verdict.
  9. Cross posting from Steel Shank -- I'd forgotten about this thread. This offering from Julio's is legit.

  16. I see some skepticism about this buck being expressed on the Texas Buck Registry FB page, too. https://www.facebook.com/TexasBuckRegistry/ Update: Interesting that this FB page has now edited out some earlier comments about potential escapees from some breeding farms in that area.
  17. Possibly, but here is the Army publication about the great success of last year's youth hunt at the Red River Armory: https://www.army.mil/article/255211/hunting_season_great_success_at_red_river Her is young Ms. Brewer's deer harvest there last year: And another from the article: One of these things does not look like the others.
  18. I'm not buying that as a low-fenced buck in Bowie county unless somebody first clipped his breeding tag and then released it into a low-fenced pasture before harvesting it.
  19. What is the sauce for? Are you also whipping up some burgers and fries to go with the sauce?
  20. That's got to be David Barrow, Jr. The original developer was David Barrow Sr., who passed away in 1972. https://www.statesman.com/story/news/2018/06/27/life-flourishes-on-both-sides-of-northwest-hills-in-austin/9997730007/

  22. Nice deer. He looks pretty mature. My guess is that this is a good as he gets. Definitely worth watching closely and considering as a cull candidate.
