  1. We use these on our lease: http://judgefeeders.com/ Not the cheapest, but varmint-proof and low so easier to fill just standing up or from the back of a pickup truck.
  2. I got excited until I realized that sale wasn't the Tarrytown Shopping Center owned by that animal rights activist.
  3. Here’s How Downtown Austin’s Block-Sized Hobby Building Could Redevelop https://austin.towers.net/heres-how-downtown-austins-block-sized-hobby-building-could-redevelop/?pro=caitlyn@towers.net
  4. I thought that I hated bourbon and scotch when I was in college -- after I graduated I figured out that our frat treasurer only bought cheap and shitty bootleg liquor for our parties. Edit -- that stuff came from here on North Lamar -- their store brand -- the worst.
  5. Hadn't looked until now, but I'm guessing that place is OK: https://texashighways.com/travel-news/austins-broken-spoke-dance-hall-finally-gets-its-texas-historical-marker/
  6. He overcame a lot of adversity. Taylor Duck, aggy Corp dork. But was later a UT grad and member of Texas Sigma Chi. What was his handle on TOS?
  7. I've been long on LUV stock for a long time. Skadden Arps is expensive. I don't see this exercise as a good use of LUV's money, certainly not a hill to die on. Just a weird fact situation -- get it resolved and resume moving folks around the country.
  8. Yep. There is a BS story out on the interwebs this week about the 100 best restaurants in Texas, based upon Yelp ratings. What a cluster! https://www.yelp.com/collection/vDbu1mpLEKomVmXmXNWG0Q/Top-100-Places-to-Eat-in-Texas-2023 As far as Houston goes, I'd agree with Brisket & Rice for 'cue, and maybe State of Grace for fine dining, but this list shows why it pays to be dubious of Yelp reviews.
  9. Booked for the Dallas concert on 9-1, EW&F always puts on a great show. First time to see Lionel's stuff. It should be a very large time that evening.
  10. IDK how they decided on Hole in the Wall (probably a great choice), but they sure as heck need to be doing the same thing for Saxon Pub, Continental Club, Broken Spoke, Ginny's Little Longhorn, etc.
  11. That is some smoke -- and not the good kind.
  12. If I recall correctly, the State bought out Fort Apache (as we used to lovingly call the "Hobby Building") to help bail out the Brown Maroney, et al. law firm that had sunk a bunch of their and their employee's retirement funds into that dumb project. They were facing some major fiduciary issues related to the alleged misuse of the funds of their legal assistants and secretary's if that whole project had gone tits up -- which many did back in those days.
  13. The Rice University forum is over there ------>
  14. All the credit goes to Judge F. Scott McCown, a true idoit (no CR -- it is known!).
  15. The game warden thing never occurred to me. We've always been on a first name basis with them and they having a standing invite at our table. They have a tough job.
  16. Nay. I try to keep my phone far, far away when I am out hunting.
  17. I got invited to a "BBQ" in Wisconsin one time. The "BBQ" turned out to be ground beef Sloppy Joe's made with BBQ sauce and served out of a crock-pot. At least there was plenty of cold beer being that it was Wisconsin and all, so that was nice.
  18. No shit. All of that was pretty stupid. Do better.
  19. Clearly some kind of CIA conspiracy going on here: JOHNNY HARDWICK 'KING OF THE HILL' STAR DEAD AT 64 https://www.tmz.com/2023/08/10/king-of-the-hill-dale-johnny-hardwick-voice-actor-dead-dies/
  20. Told the bride about this thread. She says that she's always been unashamedly on "Team No Tip" for any counter service places (with a smile, of course).
  21. Same topic -- more pics. (Don't we like pics on Surly?) 2023 Big Tex Choice Awards Finalists: Fried Cherry Pie, Loaded Fries Pizza, and ‘Turkey Ribs!’ https://www.dmagazine.com/food-drink/2023/08/2023-big-tex-choice-awards-finalists-fried-cherry-pie-loaded-fries-pizza-and-turkey-ribs/
  22. We've been having this stuff going on at our firm. Our administrator is getting emails that are purportedly from employees asking for a change in their ACH payroll information and redirecting them to some sort of cash debit cards. We think the breach is because that one of my partners had his laptop stolen in a parking garage in downtown Houston (brazen daylight theft where they busted out the windows of his truck) and they accessed all of our shit.
  23. Nice! I'd look at rack of lamb recipes, especially those that are heavy on Rosemary and Garlic. Don't overcook it.
