Clearly some kind of CIA conspiracy going on here:
JOHNNY HARDWICK 'KING OF THE HILL' STAR DEAD AT 64

Told the bride about this thread. She says that she's always been unashamedly on "Team No Tip" for any counter service places (with a smile, of course).
Same topic -- more pics. (Don't we like pics on Surly?)

We've been having this stuff going on at our firm.
Our administrator is getting emails that are purportedly from employees asking for a change in their ACH payroll information and redirecting them to some sort of cash debit cards.
We think the breach is because that one of my partners had his laptop stolen in a parking garage in downtown Houston (brazen daylight theft where they busted out the windows of his truck) and they accessed all of our shit.
This argument seems to conflate being born in the USA vs. being born in some desolate hell hole elsewhere. We all won the lottery if we were born in the USA.
Then lets talk about my advantages.
I was born into a two parent family. Mom and Dad were actually married. My Mom was a full-time homemaker. We spoke English in our home. I never lacked for food or shelter when I was growing up.
Is that first or second base?
I deal a lot with fraud and risk management issues. I totally get why places go to cards only. It is a huge risk to have employees make bank deposits/withdrawals. Google "bank jugging" or "restaurant safe" to check my oil on this. There is also more risk of employee fraud if cash is accepted at a store.
All that said, I always try to tip via cold hard cash that is directly given to the bartender or server that I appreciated. Hard for anybody to muck that up.
Call the sheriff.

We had Cross booked for a Texas frat party before his big song hit. His agent tried to get out of the gig unless we paid way more money. We said no. He and his band showed up but he was kind of a bitch -- played the minimum time and and didn't play any of his hits.
Glad that he has done well since then.
I'm old enough to remember what happened in the 1980s. I can see all of this boom dropping like a cow turd from a very tall cow. I hope that I am wrong.
I wonder whether the stuff going down last week with the PSW guys is a bellwether. You need to have deal flow going on to support that kind of operation. Not saying ponzi scheme, but you have got to question how their investor's funds relate to specific projects.
IDK if this is anything, but there is gonna come a time when the worm turns on all the Austin real estate Wiz kids. Maybe this is a portent of things to come?

Be prepared to show a passport when the Federales show up in that area. It reminds me of what things looked like back when we used to go across the border to Nuevo Laredo as gringo tourists. Chiclets? Shine your boots? Maybe later? You really need it.
