  1. It ain't happening in Texas these days. Recreational use (hunting) far outweighs any ag use in most of the state. I am fortunate that our family owns some East Texas timberland that can be used for multiple purposes that can be profitable sometimes.
  2. Good to know that you have planned for contingencies!
  3. IDK, but these guys may sneak up on your power usage.
  4. I made the Julia Child beef bourguignon right after Christmas. Couldn't believe that it needed more wine!
  5. Did @next2naus ever get to meet or party with Frank?
  6. Us old guys get that. It's the bottom of the fifth, Frank!
  7. As I was saying: Joe's Bakery in Austin wins James Beard Foundation 'America's Classics' award The foundation said one of the reasons that cemented Joe's as an Austin staple is its firm sense of community. https://www.kvue.com/article/life/food/joes-bakery-austin-james-beard-award/269-e48074f0-a7aa-4ca5-985e-c5eeea9da6d8
  8. Speed all you want, but there is no fucking excuse for running red lights. Just stupid and deadly.
  9. Consequences have happened: https://thehill.com/homenews/3869266-texas-school-superintendent-resigns-after-leaving-firearm-unattended-in-bathroom-for-3rd-grader-to-find/?utm_campaign=TheHill-trending-stories&utm_source=kxan.com&utm_medium=thehill-cross-brand
  10. I made a joke about how dangerous it was to get between Art and a TV camera on a FB thread of a friend (who is a somewhat public figure) -- Art was most displeased and let me know about it. He is a tool.
  11. Twin Liquors now owns Sigel's stores in DFW area -- they celebrate Dollar Days, as well.
  12. The Startlegram article about the Mexican Inn closing also included the tidbit that Bailey's on Taylor Street downtown is one of the two oldest barbecue restaurants (along with Black's in Lockhart) still owned and operated by the original families. Who knew? Another one gone: Fort Worth’s oldest Mexican restaurant lost location, will move https://www.aol.com/another-one-gone-fort-worth-222552440.html
  13. It's been 25 years plus since I've been to Mexican Inn in downtown FW, but I always thought that the gambling lore was part of the charm, plus they seem to use more chili gravy on their food than other places. The fritos chips are unique and may be authentic to their heritage.
  14. The State of Texas got the place for free for 50 years. Apparently got a notice 2 years ago about the lease termination. Incompetence? FAFO.
  15. Same story, different neighborhoods -- those parties were up on Cat Mountain and around Valburn in my day. Loop 360 was just under construction and Coors beer had only recently come to Austin. Good times, indeed! Edit: And Lanier Vikettes were always welcome! Lovely girls!
  16. IDK about the substance of the posts, but drive-by negging is stupid and reflects that someone has way too much time available to waste.
  17. "I didn’t realize westlake, Bowie, LT, Anderson and vandergrift intermingled that much at parties." Anderson Trojan guy here. Married a Westlake girl. There was lots of interaction between those two schools along with Austin High and McCallum back then (late 70s). Lake Travis and Bowie weren't really a thing yet.
  18. I am very much a 2A advocate, but that is a huge fuck-up. There should be consequences for the Superintendent.
  19. Love Kenny and Ziggys -- haven't been there since they moved their shop to the old Luby's in the Galleria area.
  20. This all seems like a pretty good idea for Austin development (or redevelopment): It’s Time to Brodie Oaksify Austin’s Sprawled-Out Shopping Centers https://austin.towers.net/its-time-to-brodie-oaksify-austins-sprawled-out-shopping-centers/?pro=caitlyn@towers.net
  21. Relevant to thread re: La Cocina de Consuelo on Burnet Road: https://www.statesman.com/obituaries/paco0428643
  22. Thanks, but I think that the Feinstein post has everything to do with Fetterman. Congressional staff control what's happening. Do your think that either of those two have had an original thought in months?
  23. Lot's of talented folks representing us in the US Senate, it seems. Baffled Dianne Feinstein walks out of Senate chamber wondering what just happened: 'Did I vote for that?' https://www.businessinsider.com/feinstein-asked-staff-about-votes-she-cast-on-senate-floor-2023-2
  24. Same thing with I-10 construction status. I-10 is largely a bridge for long stretches. A little bit of road repair can screw things up for hours. Do one of the Gulfport casinos for an overnight party/stay.
