  1. Any port in a storrm?
  2. I'm not a LEO, but would it be a hard decision to view one of those kind of jobs in Lakeway, Georgetown, or Liberty Hill as more desirable than one in Austin? Having to apprehend a buzzed soccer Mom versus a meth-addled homeless Hobo. Not a close call.
  3. Probably haven't been there in over 10 years, but that is a great dish!
  4. Back before the 1970s, funeral homes tended to run most rural (and some city) EMS systems in Texas. Look at news footage from the UT Tower shooting in 1966 -- mostly funeral home ambulances. Talk about perverse incentives!
  5. God bless all of those guys (and our sources and methods, even when bad). Otherwise we'd all be speaking German today!
  6. It's been a while. Wasn't Caro's on the circle? I do remember the puffy tacos.
  7. Shouldn't this be on the "Shit I've cooked lately" thread?
  8. That's so sexist and wrong! You should be saying "very ugly flight attendants."
  9. That sounds like the opening sentences of a compelling story.
  10. Smart kid!
  11. Marimont Cafeteria. They also had a store south of the river that later became the south Threadgills location.
  12. Chez Zee and Fonda San Miguel immediately come to mind. If you aren't scared of chain places, Maggiano's and Buca di Beppo have good private rooms for parties that size.
  13. Amazing how much knowledge and expertise is demonstrated on this board!
  14. Good story. My wife's great uncle died in a B-17 crash in England, right after take-off. They apparently pushed the limits on fuel weight to give them margins to make it home from their bombing mission. A B-17 full of gas and loaded with bombs -- what could go wrong? RIP James and crew.
  15. VISIT THE TRAINING GROUNDS WHERE B-17 CREWS LEARNED THEIR CRAFT When Boeing began churning out more than 12,000 of the heavy bombers, the army looked for sparsely populated places to train. Northern Montana fit the bill nicely. https://www.historynet.com/b-17-training-montana-wwii/
  16. The Death and Life of Congress Avenue’s Neglected Historic Buildings https://austin.towers.net/the-death-and-life-of-congress-avenues-neglected-historic-buildings/?pro=caitlyn@towers.net
  17. Lest we forget about Austin's demonstrated expertise in executing complex rail transportation projects...
  18. Hard to get away from doing business with "Big Food", no matter how hard you try. Personally, I celebrate Herdez's entire catalog.
  19. Asset/Liability maturity matching is Banking 101. I'm not sure exactly what happened here, but it is a major (and very predictable) fuck up in the current interest rate environment. The over classification of so much of their assets as HTM hid their huge embedded losses. I don't think that it would have taken the "stress test" to identify this risk.
  20. IDK. I thought that there was some connection between those two stores.
  21. An acquired taste, for sure!
  22. No obvious connection that I can see. NY version is a Mexican food joint. Austin's was a burger joint that may have also had nachos and maybe some enchiladas -- especially at the 6th street store.
  23. But then you miss out on the delicious hearts, kidneys, and livers!
