  1. https://www.yourbasin.com/business/ap-darden-restaurants-buys-tex-mex-chain-chuys-for-605-million/amp/ Nothing more exciting than having Olive Garden and Chuy's under common ownership and management!
  2. Joe's Bakery or maybe Juan in a Million should get some recognition.
  3. Bouchon (Oops, forget that I'd already posted this upthread a while back. The place still gets great reviews. Best sweetbreads ever.)
  4. Late to the show here, but thought he was terrific talent and perfect for the Austin music scene. RIP. This piece has some good quotes from him. https://austin.towers.net/michael-corcoran-never-stopped-believing-in-sixth-street/?pro=jude@towers.net Michael Corcoran Never Stopped Believing in Sixth Street
  5. Bush's fried chicken livers with cream gravy are my current guilty pleasure.
  6. My wife has had stuff pulled on her at some high-end retail places. "How would you like to save X amount on your purchases today?" She says "yes" -- then we get some bullshit credit card statement reflecting a purchase charge on an account with a bullshit $1,000 charge limit. My job is to pay the charge and close the account.
  7. I went off the menu tonight and had white cheese enchiladas with mole sauce and a cup of Borracho beans at Jardin Corona in downtown Marble Falls. Paired with a Mexican Martini (limit 2, of course!) It was perfecto!
  8. What a bunch of hogwash! I assume that the /sarc tag was left off.
  9. Note that Kurt Bowels shares the byline on this new piece. He's got to have had a role in the timing and leaking of the Pierce firing story.
  10. Mills looks like he'd be intimidating on the basepaths.
  11. Pretty sure that story came out right after the Big 12 tournament ended.
  12. My theory on the timing of the announcement of Pierce's firing is related to Kurt Bowels. He wasn't gonna hold back on writing about the story, like others did, because he wanted to get a bunch of clicks at his new employer, the Houston Chronicle with an "exclusive" story. Texas was forced to get ahead of Bowel's story and move up their timing of the announcement about Pierce.
  13. Very odd. It never got above around 10,000 ft. or 200 mph. Flight plan was 40,000 ft. and 600 mph.
  14. No disrespect to your wife @Armybrat, but this Taylor Duck needed to go away a very long time ago.
  15. WNBA is real -- just like wrestling!
  16. That reminds me that I need a set of those! Thanks!
  17. I'm not a Surly lawdog, but there are circumstances where owners can move to establish a receivership over a property to resolve those kinds of issues.
  18. This is a big issue all over Texas. Ranches turning into Ranchettes that are too small to effectively manage. In my personal situation, we have some generational timberland in East Texas that will get split up as the actuarial tables tell their tales. There has been some resistance to actually moving properties to some sort of trust or family LLC-such vehicle, but, so far, we have managed to all mutually engage the same forestry consultant under a single contract. Way better to go to market with more acreage whether you are harvesting or re-planting.
  19. My wife always warned my son about about marrying a rich/privileged girl, as he'd never be able to do enough to keep her happy. He took that to heart. They eloped and got married in front of a judge. We had a party for them at a brewery a couple of months later and had Matt's El Rancho cater it. Maybe $2,500-$3,000 out of pocket. 8 years and 2 grandkids later, they are still married. A great investment!
