  1. Maybe Mendoza thought that he was seeing something, but swinging at a 0-0 pitch at this stage of a game is pretty iffy.
  2. Mexican Martinis and the Gorgonzola Jalapeno Pasta (linguini, I think) are all that is memorable about that place.
  3. Ags always focusing on steers!
  4. Randall's/Tom Thumb discount when you buy 6 bottles is pretty good. We focus on California red blends under $20. I'm not smart enough to know the difference -- but very drinkable.
  5. That could have been much worse. Bases loaded with no outs is not a dream scenario when playing defense.

That is a great place, Brat. One of our favorites on weekends. Good playscape for the grandkids (or your kids - for the juniors on Surly).
  7. Consistent, with full serving hours. True Texas Barbecue at the Gtown or Pville HEB locations might be an option. They do a really good job. Full disclosure: I am a huge Terry Black's fan all the way along I-35 (including the diversion to Lockhart) -- I think that they are doing it right for a place that doesn't sell out by noon everyday.
  8. Don't do Salt Lick. There is a Rudy's in RR on I-35, for g-d's sake!
  9. That sucks. Mortality is a real bitch.
  10. I beg your pardon -- I've spent a lot of time out there on a couple of hunting leases. All three places have fun public golf courses. Brady has a big Wal-Mart. The others have newly invigorated Lowes grocery stores and even Allsups for burritos!
  11. Same here on breaking the glass -- this one has been perfect on that front, and holds heat better.
  12. Frieling metal french press.
  13. Great pics. Enjoy your fishing trips!
  14. I hate undisciplined batting. Three strikes thrown in that last inning.
  15. Just tuning in to this thread, SIAP, Horn batters not going deep enough into the count with these relief pitchers. Lots of 0-1 count outs.
  16. Sorry to hear about the situation. I think Imma is pretty much on point. Give him a dignified cremation and move on.
  17. If Burnt Bean is sold out, one of my friends just opened The Brick in Seguin. Neapolitan pizza and such.
  18. Errybody always overlooks The Tavern. Free parking in the lot across 12th street is a huge draw for me. And must I say it -- Texas Chili Parlor!
  19. Hence my reluctance to even engage this thread with reasoned and appropriate subject matter discussion. I'm out.
  20. And that may be correct in terms of second-fiddle to PNW, but that is a very niche product for high-end custom construction. Factor in shorter growth cycles, lower transportation, harvest, and sawmill costs -- anything behind drywall (or maybe even to be painted) is going to be engineered Southern Pine. Love old-growth forests up north, but my family has managed East Texas timber for over a 100 years, and yeah, it looks pretty shitty when it is time for a final clear cut of a parcel, but it does come back quicker than you'd think.
  21. Reluctant to get into a borderline CR topic, but here goes. Our family has a bit of southern pine timberland. Growing cycles of southern timber vs. PNW timber are not comparable. Southern is well less than PNW (many times over 50%). Our Forester consultant tells us that the industry is changing a bunch. Nobody wants the big trees much anymore unless for telephone poles. Dimensional lumber and engineered products are the future. You want a 12x12 beam or post? That's now going to be an engineered product precisely made from smaller timber with advanced adhesives. Why? Because it is a more reliable product. Less bowing or curling and it will be exactly the size requested by the customer. Agree some with Twice on sawmill capacity, but we've been told that it is a matter of us needing to respond to the market demand and shortening our harvest horizons. YMMV.
  22. Just speculation, But my guess is that Washington will not be playing in Omaha this year.
  23. Baseball is a crazy game. Thought they would be run-ruled.
