  1. Ah yes... Purdon't is still Purdon't. I wonder if their coach knows that when you run the ball and stay in bounds, the clock continues to run unless the other team calls time out.
  2. So, Cinemark had a sneak showing of the first two episodes tonight at 7:00 p.m. First, I am a Tolkein Fan Boi. I have a first edition volume of the Silmarillion. On the big screen, the cinematic impact was dramatic. Hard to believe we were watching two episodes of a series. It starts to show the animosity between the dwarves and elves, how wizards came about ... and sets the table for future episodes. You don't get a lot of in depth war action in these episodes, but there is tremendous promise. Oh.. Galadriel slams and goes hard ... especially in a diaphanous gown that gets very wet. Great scenes for you Pervs. I liked it more than the House of Dragons first two episodes. Definitely worth your time.
  3. I don't think enough is made of this. More often than not, our fellow Surlyites (Surlyicians?) cavalierly throw out terms like "he's a damned drunk" etc. etc. This is Surly after all. But, to go through the public humiliation he endured, to lose the millions of dollars in salary and other sources, to have to take what is ordinarily a very private struggle and have it play out under a huge spotlight, takes a special kind of person. A person, a leader who must be strong, must have resolve, must have humility, must be fearless and resourceful. They must practice rigorous authenticity and do uncomfortable work each and every day. Because the demon is always there. If and when players on the team come to him with their adversity or struggles, he has the ability to say .... "I was there." Now, I don't know if Sark will end up being THE coach for us. For that matter, I am still struggling with my Coach Potato PTSD. He does have some warts. Questions remain about last year's disaster. BUT ... The holes in the ship appear to have been mostly found and plugged. Now, all this may be a load of crapola to the "Instant Gratification Internet Generation." [But, Fuck 'em and Feed 'em Fish Heads!] I'm going to watch with great interest though.
  4. HOLY SHRIKEES!!!! Sophia Benoit! I have met her a number of times. She is a niece of my SO. Her book, "Well, This is Exhausting" has some epic, stories in it.
  5. A second Loro is opening in Addison near Belt Line and Montfort. New building from the ground up. Probably at least two months away from being completed then opened.
  6. Point of Order! Technically, our "alternative" unis were throw backs. I believe there is a difference between those terms with regard to intention, application and respect for the school's history. Now granted, Coach Potato tried to bedazzle the the most iconic logo in college football and there was the ridiculous "gold outlining" for the 2 Texas - blowu games. But, the Coach Potato years were comparable to the Great Depression wherein we had wealthy alums throwing themselves out of their luxury suites.
  7. Pm me if you'd like. Or email steven@dunnlawfirm.net. I have a pretty extensive network. I am also friends with a true "connector" who knows everyone. I am pretty confident that depending on the circumstances and needs, we can make some pretty good recommendations. And keep in mind, this is coming from a person who thinks many, many therapists are well ... less than what they believe. And transference and counter-transference are prevalent. Here's a brief article on that: https://www.verywellmind.com/transference-2671660
  8. This X 1000. We had bidet toilet seats installed in the master and the guest (the bathroom closest to my home office with lots of reading material). These things are greatness.
  9. One of my heroes, Cicero is credited with saying, "Dum anima est, spes esse." Its rough translation is ... "While there is life, there is hope." What does it tell you that you took the time to hop on here, knowing that it is a safe place and open up about your pain and despair? What does it tell you that you perhaps look upon this place as a small spark of life? That you are embraced on here with love? When my daughter died 5 years ago, I knew, I KNEW, that my life was over. That the pain in my heart would never go away. That I was shattered. Now, make no mistake, I will always have this huge hole in my soul that can never be filled. But, in my daughter's name, I am helping get young people in treatment every week. Helping parents in grief. I never expected at 63 years old to be doing this. But ... I believe I have no choice. Perhaps with you, you can take that justifiable anger you have and start to redirect a small part of it somewhere. Maybe you can look at why you hate your current job, what you like about your job, take the positive things (if any), and direct them to a job in a different field. Will it be easy? Of course not. There is no doubt that you have an elephant of despair in front of you. And the only way you digest that elephant is one bite at a time. I am connected with very good therapists. (And believe me, most therapists are quacks.) I can make some referrals if that would help. If so, send me a DM. Now, I don't know anything about your situation except what you shared. But, the important thing is... you shared. You shared in a safe place. You shared with this incredible, small band of brothers all of whom, on this particular thread, have faced some incredible demons. Maybe a step would be to keep posting on here. I can also connect you with some closed groups on the Book of Faces of men who are going through some incredibly difficult times. Strength in the brotherhood. Steven
  10. Some very good discussion on conference realignment and sovereign immunity in this article. https://law.olemiss.edu/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Conference-Realignment-From-Backyard-Brawls-to-Cash-Cows.pdf
  11. i rolled in a league a few years with some friends. There is now so much science into the ball versus the old days of the "Black Beauty." Hopefully, the person who drilled your ball asked you a lot of questions and didn't just "size you." Take a quick lesson from the pro at your alley. https://www.pattersonbowl.com/how-to-drill-bowling-balls-for-maximum-hook/
  12. So, a question for those who have been following expansion closely... In 2016, the California legislature passed a law banning state funded travel to states with anti-LBGTQ policies. The law has some exceptions, none of which appear to be applicable to athletic endeavors. That list initially was only four (4) states. It is now 22 states. Including three (3) states with Big 10 teams, Ioway, Ohio, Indiana. UCLA is a public university thus subject to that law. So, presumably, travel and expenses for games against the U of Ioway, Indiana U, Purdon't U and THE Ohio State will not be covered. The one off football game is one thing. Private funds have been raised and utilized for that purpose. But, now you're looking at about 17 different sports teams at UCLA whose travel will be impacted. Does private funding absorb these costs? Any thoughts or should I go back to yelling at the damned kids to get off my sun scorched lawn?
  13. Gentlemen...reach out, embrace the love, and strength that our children give to us ... even after they have been unfairly taken. And I hope, I pray, that together, we can help others to lead full and happy lives. http://adadsjourneywitheatingdisorders.home.blog/2022/08/10/birthdays/
  14. We now know that in some cases of depression, rTMS (repetitive transmagnetic cranial stimulation) is being utilized with success. So much so that many insurance benefit providers have approved this for treating depression ... and eating disorders. [I gave a horribad TEDx talk on rTMS about 4 years ago when I was still in a deep fog.] Doctors are also turning to a ketamine regiment to treat severe depression and ... eating disorders. It too has shown promise and like rTMS, has been approved by some insurance companies. Am embedding an article on rTMS. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/tms-depression#who-is-it-for
  15. Hey Poll Boy, with regard to Less/Fewer ...
  16. Have been to Monarch three times now. Each time a great experience. When my SO and I go to any upscale place, one of the first things I tell the wait person is, "We are going to be eating very European. Which means, we are going to be here a good, long while." We have never received push back. Talk to the sommelier every time. Ask their advice/opinions on food/wine pairing (even if the intention is to order by the glass). Set expectations at the start.
  17. Surly... I am so disappointed in you. No pics of Judge Robinson? In her prime ...
  18. Get Off My Lawn Time. How many full or partial Nike logos can you spot on the uniform? (Do not include the football.) I spy, with my little eye ... FOURTEEN (14)! Compared to THREE (3) Longhorn logos. Ok... bitching time over. At least we don't look like a fucking NASCAR car any longer.
  19. Let's see ... taking a quick look at 15 USC 1692e, we may have violations of: A debt collector may not use any false, deceptive, or misleading representation or means in connection with the collection of any debt; (2)The false representation of— (A) the character, amount, or legal status of any debt; (4) The representation or implication that nonpayment of any debt will result in the arrest or imprisonment of any person or the seizure, garnishment, attachment, or sale of any property or wages of any person unless such action is lawful and the debt collector or creditor intends to take such action. (5) The threat to take any action that cannot legally be taken or that is not intended to be taken. (10) The use of any false representation or deceptive means to collect or attempt to collect any debt or to obtain information concerning a consumer. There are other possible state and federal statute violations as well. [I used to represent debt collection companies in federal courts throughout the United States.] I am embedding a summary judgment I got in federal court in Colorado on an FDCPA case: https://casetext.com/case/burns-v-anderson-crenshaw-associates-2
  20. And of course, there is the possible issue of "mitigation of damages." Any aggrieved party ordinarily has the duty to mitigate its own damages. (some exceptions exist). According to the Big 12 Conference’s bylaws, a withdrawing member must pay a buyout fee that is equal to the sum of the amount of distributions that otherwise would be paid to the member during the final two years of its membership. Therefore, regardless of a lawsuit, OU and UT ordinarily have to pay a buyout fee to the Big 12. According to the Big 12, in the event that we decide to leave early, UT and ou will be required to pay the amount of actual losses and damages. The effect of leaving early would be a violation of the Grant of Rights Agreement referenced in the bylaws, which gives the right to the conference’s television partners to televise the departing team’s games until the end of the contract. Ordinarily, UT and ou would have to negotiate a settlement amount or pay damages to the conference for causing the conference to be unable to fully realize the revenue from its television contract. Similar to the WAC and Big East cases, member schools or the conference itself could file suit against OU and UT. But, if the Big 12 were smart, it would be negotiating for a different for a buyout fee and an agreement to schedule Big 12 opponents for a specified amount of time. And this is where it gets interesting. Apparently, to further expedite this impending issue, the AAC stated that it is willing to negotiate a higher exit fee to allow the three departing teams to leave for the Big 12 earlier than expected. If the Big 12 does not pursue this, are they truly mitigating its damages? If the Big 12 does not reach out to viable future members for inclusion sooner rather than later, are they truly mitigating its damages? The Big 12 accepted a ridiculously low amount from aggy and Misery when they left. Precedent has been set. The Big 12 has a chance to renegotiate its television contracts with commitments from Pac 12 teams. NOW is the time to go to the Big 12 and say this is our last year!

  22. I've had this bad boy about 20 years. It has seen courtrooms from California to Rhode Island. I got it at the Coop. Just had new wheels and handle put on it. He refurbished the leather as much as he good. I've lost count on the number of compliments I have received on it.
  23. God forgive me. I'm curiously aroused.
  24. The SO and I were in Hawaii over New Years Eve. Great hotel and the toilet had a bidet seat. That made me remember how much I do like them. So, returning home, I found a Brondell Bidet for about $300 at Home Depot. The blue night light on it is handy. The quality is pretty sound. We liked it so much that I got another one and had it installed in the bathroom used mostly by guests (and me since it is just outside of my home office.) Am a confirmed Bidet Man. Bring on the naysayers. Haters gonna hate,
