  1. I had zero expectations going in and had several legit laughs.
  2. In the DoD aggregate, this is a rounding error, but at the service level, this is real money. At the service level, we were kicking and scratching and providing gnat's ass justification for every dollar spent. I worked with budget numbers like this and the detailed work that went into generating and executing them was extensive. I am at a complete loss as to how a service can lose sight of this amount of money. Several levels of oversight had significant failures to allow this to happen. Based on my experience working in the Pentagon, this whole situation in breaking my brain.
  3. Now don't let Bama come for Sark. Then I'll freak out.
  4. Well... shit. But there are enough personal reasons for Bo to go there that I'm not gonna freak out. Time for Sark to flex.
  5. Only had the one mid-season stumble during '23 after a clean '22. Hoping that I'm in the early 2010s SF Giants pattern with championships coming in even years.
  6. Late to the game here and have only watched the first episode, but I laughed out loud multiple times.
  7. Recency bias for us for Astro fans.
  8. Yastrzemski
  9. Opened up the 10-day forecast and saw a low of -12 next Tuesday. I'm in Tulsa. I did not sign up for this. ETA: Weather app was pulling bad data. Still looks like we are going to dip into the negative numbers on Sunday/Monday. I will still be sending a letter to management expressing my extreme dissatisfaction.
  10. God, this is exhausting. You know what else balances out a power dynamic? One side valuing the other and voluntarily ceding power to that other side, which by almost all accounts is what Costco management has historically done with their employees. Costco has demonstrated in the real world that a cooperative relationship between corporate leadership and employees can actually exist and be relatively successful. Rather than applaud it and treat it as a model to be emulated, labor pundits slap on the "union-busting" label. In their minds, an adversarial relationship between labor and management is the only possible solution. Well, I guess it is the only possible solution that puts a paycheck into organizers' pockets. Heaven forbid that we all actually try to figure out a way to work together rather than keep each other in check with the threat of mutually assured destruction.
  11. @NowThis was not bullied. He pulled a Keyser Söze immediately after posting the link.
  12. FIFY
  13. Dangerously close to murder 2 charges for someone with as much blood thinners as those two dudes have in their system.
  14. I think we can all rest easy in the knowledge that the Surly lexicon has not been absorbed into the LLMs, because not one of the recommendations says “highly regarded.”
  15. Username/thread correlation achievement unlocked!
  16. I don't know. They've got a strong case with a lot of probable claws.
  17. Went to the zoo, flipped off the monkeys.
  18. Blows my mind that the folks with the "We the People" tattoos and truck stickers are the first to say "fuck you" to public health measures.
  19. That is horrible... but this is Surly, so.... here goes. Defeated?
  20. A buddy and I compete on this every day, but we add another layer to it. He is a Cardinal fan and I am an Astro fan. We each try to use only our team's players to fill out the grid. Today, he got a 211 with Cardinals and I dropped a 205 with Astros. I missed two obvious answers for a one-time Astro who made an All-star team with Atlanta and a one-time Astro who won a silver slugger for ATL. I was pretty proud that I got the the only possible answer for one-time Astro who won a GG for Atlanta.
  21. Convenient to attribute the good things that happened to the "football gods" but then blame Sark and QE for coming up short at the end. Texas was outplayed last night and had a very fortunate set of events occur along with some great plays to have a chance at the end. It took a damn good/borderline PI play by the DB to keep that pass out of Mitchell's hands. The other team has a say in the end result and the better team last night won. This game isn't close to the pain of '01 Colorado/'08 Tech/'10 Bama. Those are games we should have won and didn't. This is one that we could have won and didn't Huge difference. Don't wallow in what could have happened.
  22. On the countdown of painful Texas losses, this one is way, way down the list.
