  1. Just saw this. That was my first show. It was my senior year of high school and my brother and I drove up. I got a nice SBD back when my brother traded DATs. The second set holds up really well and the Morning Dew closer was incredible.
  2. I am and that would be awesome. In Big Bend right now. I’ll shoot you a message when I am back.
  3. I brewed a German Pilsner about 15 months ago. It didn’t dry out as much as I hoped and I under primed it when bottling. It was flat even after about 3-4 months i the bottle. I left it in the back of the pantry and just tried one. It finally carbonated and is pretty good, even though it is a bit sweet. I just bought a used 2-tap kegerator. And now need kegs, regulator, and CO2. Gonna be done bottling soon!
  4. That was a good show. They also played covers of Lovin' Cup, Peaches en Regalia, and Boogie on Reggae Woman that night. I was pretty pumped for the Peaches.
  5. I'll have to check that out. Right now I am watching the second set of the previous night (6/18/76) which was recorded when I was a few hours old.
  6. Met him 7 or 8 years ago. My father in law is a professor and was being honored along with another 2 professors for some sort of big honor each had earned. It was essentially a drinks reception in his office and out on the deck which sits on top of the base of the tower. It was attended by a bunch of university bigwigs and local politicians. he office was incredibly cool and the view from up there is amazing. They lit the tower orange for them and we got pics of us with the tower directly over head. He was so personable and took the time to introduce himself. He took my daughter, who was no more than 6 months old, and held her for a bit. He was so engaging and warm during the brief interaction and really mad us feel welcome. One of my coolest Longhorn memories. He'll be missed. I have no idea if they ever allow tours of the office, but I would recommend it to every Longhorn if given the chance. I can't imagine too many universities have a cooler president's office than ours.
  7. My wife and I usually go to Hopfields. She loves the mussels and I like the beer.
  8. I hate takeout places that tie a knot with the handles of the plastic bag making me cut or rip it open to get my food. For some reason, 99% of Asian restaurants have figured out the perfection of the slip knot, allowing you to carry the bag with one nicely centered handle (trivial thing that pleases the shit out of me) while 100% of the rest either tie a knot or do nothing. Both of these far inferior options make me surlier than they should.
  9. My wife and I bought this exact pad this past October and it was more comfy and weighed way less than my old thermarest. Amazon had it for ~$60-65 back then so i’d look around for deals on it. Massdrop has a similar one for about $60 right now, but most of the sizes are gone.
  10. If you Cheetos fans visit Canada, get some Cheezies they are made from real cheddar and are way crunchier (my MIL keeps them in the freezer for max crunch) with more/better flavor. they kind of ruined Cheetos for me.
  11. Glad they added librarians. In the state of Texas, librarians at public schools are required to be teachers with at least 2 years of classroom experience plus an additional certification that requires a masters degree. If librarians were making 5k less than teachers, it would be really hard to fill those positions out of what is already a small pool of qualified candidates. Most importantly, my wife just became a certified librarian so she’ll get a raise.
  12. Not really a fan, but in high school around 1992 I saw them at the Bomb Factory in Dallas on a bill with Moby. It was billed as a rave (Airrave maybe). From what I remember, he was mostly their dancer at that point and didn’t sing much. I remember it being a fun time and was always amazed at how huge those two acts became. Sad day for us getting older farts.
  13. Mike D grabbed the money MCA snatched the gold I grabbed two girlies and a beer that’s cold

  15. Greensky Bluegrass did a really cool jam of When Dove’s Cry > Fame > When Doves Cry at Telluride Bluegrass the summer after Bowie and Prince died. 1987 Girls, Girls, Girls tour at Reunion arena, the Crüe brought out a couple guys from Cinderella and a couple from Ratt and played Zepplin’s Rock and Roll. I was 11 and it was fucking awesome. In 1994 I saw both the Grateful Dead and the Stones play Not Fade Away within a few months of each other. Dead also played the Beatles’ Rain. at Deer Creek in ‘99 Phish did a really nice Whipping Post.
  16. Love this one. The 6/9/76 one is another favorite.
  17. The new Cass McCombs is my favorite new album in a while. As a deadhead, it hits a sweet spot for me that few things do. That being said, it does not sound anything like them. The new Mandolin Orange is good, but way mellower than their previous two (which are mellow af).
  18. Our tooth fairy leaves $2 bills. I like the Nixon coin. Maybe she will leave those for molars which will start coming out soon.
  19. http://www.fritzeuropeanfryhouse.com/ got late night poutine here a few years back after a night of drinking. One of the finest foods i’ve ever eaten. The fries tasted like the street ones in Belgium and the curds/gravy were glorious. My wife and I split a large. Bad idea. Got right back in line and got another one to not share. Down the hatch.
  20. When I was first brewing, I listened to most of the old Can you brew it/Brewing with style/the Jamil show podcasts. It is now defunct and the info is outdated as far as some styles go, but they are pretty funny and full of good info from some pretty badass home brewers (the main guy is now professional). Shit ton of old commercials to FF thru though.
  21. When adulting, sometimes nouns get turned into verbs.
  22. Only when it isn’t the “Opening lyrics to great songs thread”
  23. Tried it today. Possibly my best beer yet. Really clean and no off flavors to speak of. Currently, I am trying to make fairly basic ipas and pale ales to get my process down. This was my first with a starter with the stir plate my dad got me and it went from 1.060 down to 1.008. Big win as I love them dry with minimal sweetness. The recipe is: 90/10 2-row and English crystal 1/2 ounce each citra and cascade at 60, 15, 5, and flameout with a 10 min whirlpool, no dry hops (forgot) anyway, my brother’s family was in town for my wife’s bday and we polished off 6. Really excited as I fucked something up the last 2 batches. Need to slow down to let it clean up a bit more.
