  1. Hogs will do that too. Between hogs and coyotes nothing but the spine, skull, and rack will be left after one night. CHIEF
  2. I used to set up at the Texas Trophy Hunters Expo with those guys. I can't remember their names, but one of them would bring his daughter. She was about 14-15 years old. She couldn't have been more than about 4'3" and 70 pounds. This was in 2020-2021. CHIEF
  3. That's what I'm talking about. If it cost a dime to go around the World, you couldn't get out of sight. CHIEF
  4. My Dad was the fourth oldest of ten children born to a sharecropper family. We had hard times a few times in life, but he would always regale me with, "you think its bad now, when I was a kid we had to...." 1. We were so poor, momma would tie a string to a piece of bacon and tie the other end to a hook in the ceiling. You got to stand on a stool and swallow the piece of bacon. After 2-3 minutes she would come back and kick the stool out from under you. 2. This is supposedly true. When his momma would cook a huge batch of biscuits, all the kids would take as many biscuits as they could and lick them to keep their siblings from getting them. I posted this when a buddy sent me a TikTok of "We were so poor stories." We were so poor that momma didn't have anything to cook us for supper, so she would just read us the recipe. I had a little brother that was hard of hearing, and he almost starved to death. We were so poor that Pop would have us run out in the yard and bark at visitors because we couldn't afford a dog. We were so poor that when we went to our aunt's house, we ate the fruit off the wallpaper print. We were so poor that momma made us eat cereal with a fork, so the next kid could reuse the milk. CHIEF
  5. Holy shit. We went to the deer lease in the TRX. I have never ridden in anything like it. it will settle in at 90-92 mph on the highway in 8th gear on 35s. Never hunts gears or downshifts. Got around 12-13 mpg. We are nine miles into a ranch with dirt roads, extremely steep hills, and rock ledges. In my F-350 it will shake your fillings out of your teeth, and take you about 40 minutes to get to camp. With 13 inches of suspension travel we made it in less than 20 minutes, felt like we were riding on a cloud. It has a baja mode that changes the valving on the shocks that slows the shock rebound. He did his homework, and I can definitely see the allure. This truck isn't a pavement queen, its gonna see some shit. But this trip was truly eye opening. He put down a huge down payment, so his truck payment, fuel, and insurance can be paid with one week's pay, so he didn't do something completely idiotic. It rides smoother than my wife's Lexus on bumpy roads by a good bit. CHIEF
  6. It’s a 2022 with 16k miles. It was $81k. This is the last year for the V8. His rationale was that it will not depreciate, and could actually appreciate with the Hellcat engine. CHIEF
  7. Well, CHIEF Jr. is living at home ratholing money after college. One of our friends, the one that would be giving him a construction loan to build his house, said he would need to buy something before any lender would ever give him a loan (he has a high credit score but almost no credit history). So what does the little fucker come home with? A TRX. That is his old beater truck behind it that he decided to keep since they wouldn't give him much for it. CHIEF
  8. I’ll get the lowdown. I completely forgot about this.
  9. No problem at all. They are a good feeder to supplement your primary feeder during season. 300 lbs. will last the whole season and run out in January. CHIEF
  10. They are not made in Austin. They are made between Alvarado and Midlothian, about 30 minutes from me. This is always our secondary unfenced feeder: https://deerfeeder.com/collections/feeders/products/the-barrel-stubby . $200 and you supply the barrel. You will need to attach it to "t" posts or drill through the skids and attach anchors. Cows, hogs, and Auodad will turn it over. But it is a deal for the money. CHIEF
  11. I haven't heard or seen anything yet. He was killed on an evening hunt taken straight to the ranch HQ gutted and hung in a walk-in cooler. Will probably find out this weekend. CHIEF
  12. Between Benjamin and Guthrie, TX. Most of the guys on the lease (good scorers) guessed him at around 160. Apparently he was over 200 lbs. on the hoof and scored a bit better: CHIEF
  13. Had a buddy that watched this buck a few times earlier in the season, he finally pulled the trigger on him last night. Pushing 160 B&C. That is a 180 lb. deer on the hoof, but doesn't look like it, as there is no one to reference him to in the picture. CHIEF
  14. If they would embrace their role as "spoilers" instead of "contenders", their mental health and their level of embarrassing themselves would be non-existent. They are the same tier with the Mississippi schools, South Carolina, Kentucky, etc. Their culture will always mean that. They will never be an Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas, or Florida. CHIEF
  15. My parents were married for 52 years. Mom is quite a bit younger than Dad. He passed in 2019. She was only 71. The death of your spouse is really traumatic. Especially if you are over 90. I always admired Jimmy Carter. He is a wonderful person, he presided over some really tough times in American history. I could certainly see him dying of a broken heart. He will be deeply missed. CHIEF
  16. My paternal grandfather made it 3 months after my grandmother died. The old couple that owned some property next to my six acres both died within two weeks of each other. It is very common. CHIEF
  17. Our plots were $250 each, my mom bought 10 of them laid out in a single row. They have occasional volunteer days. But they have guys that mow it bi-weekly from now on. No fee. CHIEF
  18. Yes he is a new hire. He had to restrain the child, the child was not hurt. However, SAISD has not provided him restraint training. The Principle, or Superintendent basically said "that's on us", if anything comes of it. He said he had to do it to prevent serious injury to the student that was being attacked. CHIEF
  19. I'm lucky that my Second Trinity well is about two hundred feet from the Brazos river. It is 579 feet deep and has over 150 feet of water in it. I've always had it in the back of my mind that it could be a gold mine one day. It's good enough to bottle straight out of the pump. CHIEF
  20. He is not even 50 years old in this Eastern ad. When I saw him he looked easily 75 or older. Imagine looking like an advanced senior citizen for more than half your life. CHIEF
  21. When I was in college, Frank Borman bought a 1964 Piper Twin Comanche. We went and picked it up, brought it to our FBO and annualed it and put a bunch of speed mods on it. We then flew it to Las Cruces, NM, where he lived. I was expecting to see this young guy that had been an astronaut. He was only a little over 60 at the time, but already looked much older than what I expected, and acted much older. He was interesting to talk to, but I thought he would have died a while back. After meeting him, its hard to believe he lasted this long. CHIEF
  22. Those bastards run the canyons on or deer lease everyday, all day during sunny weather. They are low enough and close enough that you can see the markings on the T-38s. The deer are used to it though. They seldom look up, but it can be loud as fuck. We sometimes shoot the bird at them as they fly by and you won't see them for a few hours. I guess they don't realize the blind is occupied. CHIEF
  23. I've always loved Billy Ocean for some reason. I remember dancing to "Suddenly" with Mrs. CHIEF, in our room naked, on our honeymoon. Here is Billy singing it, and this video is 14 YEARS OLD: He is on my bucket list to see, he occasionally hits the US with a couple of shows, but plays more locally around London. It will probably involve a trip across the pond. CHIEF
  24. You might see if the local monument engraver is also able to polish it. my father is buried in a small rural cemetery. My g-g grand father’s tombstone is broken off and is laying on top of his gravesite. My mother and I are going to purchase a new one. His fathers head stone, right behind my father’s grave is leaning a moderate amount. We are going to re-level it. none of these graves are important to his family, but their upkeep is really important to my mother, so that makes it important to me. CHIEF
  25. Don’t forget “Privatize” their watching you. CHIEF
