  1. Bingo. Don't get so far out out there that you become irrelevant. If shit changes, and you have to go back, be relevant. Stay a player, even if it means following someone else's dreams, you have to choose wisely. CHIEF
  2. At 91, she got her money's worth. Your family is lucky to have had her so long. Ts and Ps buddy. CHIEF
  3. Apparently the Ring Neck flew off the rack after that picture was taken, but all the Widgeon and Teal weren't playing dead. CHIEF
  4. They shot another limit this morning. They said they didn't even put decoys out, just sat down on the riverbank, and shot all of these. I asked CHIEF Jr. how many ducks they saw. He estimated between 2000-3000. I posted this picture earlier, but took it down, it looks like 13 ducks, but he swears there are 12. Told him if he is wrong, he better have a duck for lunch. CHIEF
  5. Back in the 80's and 90's, Waco didn't seem to have much of a middle class. Workers got a low hourly wage with no benefits, and then, there were the wealthy. That's it. I remember several companies wanting to build in the industrial area out in Midway, and the city of Waco actively drove them off. These companies were going to offer higher wages, and jobs with benefits. Waco, M&M/Mars, Wells Cargo, and other established assembly and manufacturing companies didn't want any part of that. They had their own little shitty playground, and source of cheap labor, and no one was going to spoil it for them. CHIEF
  6. My parents use to live in Waco, my mother was the field editor for Texas Agriculture. She worked with a guy, Jerry, that was part of the Homestead Heritage group. We have been to several of their "fairs", great people. They are very "mainstream" in their religious beliefs, many are former Mennonites, and Amish, left over differences in religious beliefs, but still like aspects of that simple lifestyle. They drive to work, and have normal jobs, but are still Old School at home. CHIEF
  7. CHIEF Jr. and his buddy had a pretty productive morning: His buddy shot a Auodad ewe for a European mount. They said it took them 4 minutes to get to their duck limit. CHIEF
  8. Kinda the same way. Sitting on millions in assets, could sell everything and move into an 18 ft. travel trailer on the deer lease. Had to have all these material things in my 20's and 30's. Now wish I didn't have any of it in my 50's. Priorities change. A golf cart and apartment in Cozumel, a truck and travel trailer in Texas and I would be fine. Don't really need, or want an expensive lifestyle to maintain. On health care, I'm covered through Mrs. CHIEF's company till 65, they pay for all of it. She worked for the State long enough that we get Medicare paid for by the State once I hit 65. CHIEF
  9. It's cold as shit at our lease right now CHIEF Jr. just left to spend the week duck hunting. The river and ponds are covered with Widgeon. A lot of movement right now, after a dusting of snow: CHIEF
  10. Well, we finally got our trailer mounted Tank Blind out to the lease for the last two weeks. I built this unit for a guy outta Alberta, Canada, but you can't move them across the border unless you have a Federally issued manufacturer's license. I had over $10k in the trailer, and he had paid $6500 for the blind. I was going to sell it at a loss, but CHIEF Jr. talked me into keeping it. It was the biggest and baddest one we ever built. So I bought the blind from him, and gave him a "good luck, and sorry". Here is one like it, I had built earlier, but he put in extra windows, had it insulated, and added a shooting bench, gun rack, window screens, and a bunch of other shit: CHIEF Jr. sat in it on the first morning with it about 70 degrees inside, looked at me, and said he will probably never go back to sitting outside unless it is hot. It is huge, and has great visibility. Holds three guys and a weiner dog easily: With two people , you can take a nap in the floor and watch the feeder out the bottom window: We set it at one location last week, didn't see anything but a young broke off 12, and a buck that needed to be culled (which CHIEF Jr. shot), we moved it to a new location between the morning and afternoon hunt, that no one was hunting since you could not see anything without some elevation. CHIEF
  11. This was me to a tee. Soloed on my 16th birthday, got a hundred hours or so, and got my pilots license on my 17th birthday. Had better than 20/20 vision. Got accepted into the Air Force Academy (thanks to Chet Edwards), then my parents flipped their shit. "How could you want to do this? You are our only child. What do you think it would do to us if you were KIA? You can't see into the future. What if we go to war during your career, etc...". Of course, I would have been fresh out of the academy for the first Gulf War, the Bosnian War, and late career in Desert Storm. Real Estate and Oil and Gas work has been good to me, but I still would rather have been a fighter pilot. Now I would probably be shooting the shit with Daysoff in the pilot's lounge. CHIEF
  12. At least you will smell nice while dismembering bodies. CHIEF
  13. Mrs. CHIEF got me a train horn to put on my truck. A one ton Ford flatbed with a pussyass horn, you can't even hear it inside the truck. Now, when you are too busy fucking with your phone at the traffic light, it will have some ramifications. Gotta find a place to mount the compressor. CHIEF
  14. The AR stays in the passengers lap. The bolt guns stay available so you can squeeze off that 400 yd. shot before the monster you stirred up, going down the road, is able to get into the brush. AR and Bullpup are always in hand. CHIEF
  15. This is the one I bought, fits in the middle front seat, held in by the seatbelt: https://www.everythingpolarisranger.com/polaris-ranger-seizmik-icos-gun-holder-by-seizmik.html CHIEF
  16. I've eaten CFS at Mary's, New York Hill, Cotton Patch, you name it. The best I have ever eaten is at Murn's Cafe in Archer City, we DO have a whole thread about this on F&T. Murn's is so good, my wife said she thought it was better than her's. Me: CHIEF
  17. Same, but my buddy would cook up all of the thawed gizzards at closing time, usually three or four pounds, and stuff two of their biggest boxes with gizzards and gravy. Would feed six college kids easily. CHIEF
  18. From Texas \m/ and the three bags to the end: Texas offered more money, so Quinn had to think about it, hard, on the flight back from Lubbock. He went home and has shut off communication. CHIEF
  19. Bravo dude, you really thought this out. It's definitely readable, and accurate. CHIEF
  20. Not Geddy or Kid Rock, it's Macaulay Culkin. CHIEF
  21. They used to get spaghetti or Ramen noodles at the Casa de CHIEF. Pizza, if they brought some of their own money. CHIEF
  22. The watch. Half my shit would be way more expensive. CHIEF
