  1. I remember seeing Van Halen about 2-3 times in one year in Dallas. Texxas Jam at the Cotton Bowl, 5150 and OU812, they also had a "make up" concert in Dallas as well. Best show was 1984 in Reunion Arena. Dave in his heyday was pretty awesome, wasn't a dude alive that didn't want to be him.

Patterson is the best in the league hands down.  Nobody has done so much with the hand he's been dealt.

Patterson's 2014 team that kicked #9 Ole Miss' ass 42-3 in the Peach Bowl was salty as fuck. He would never come to Texas, but it would be fun to see what kind of defenses he could field with the talent recruited to Texas.

At this point, I can only assume they all drank from the same cup of Flavor Aid.  918 Americans died at Jonestown.  I can only assume given the flippant attitude towards mitigation and isolation, that this event will likely multiply out and kill at least that many Americans, maybe more.  Plus, just like Jonestown...a sitting U.S. Congressman will likely die as a result of the event.

9 months in, the smartest people in the world...still don't fucking get it.  It's now, hyperbole aside, literally impossible my country is this stupid.

If only we had a Center of some sort.  Like for diseases.  And their job would be to control these diseases through broadcasting different things we could do or not do to avoid transmission/catching of a certain disease.  And this Center, I dunno.  We could call like a Center for Disease Control.  And they would help us mitigate diseases and we could listen to them sometimes.  I dunno, it's a pipe dream.  Don't me started on my other idea for a National Institute of Health.  I mean, admittedly, I stole it from this really rich, educated country called Somalia.  That yeah, literally has one and we apparently don't.

Did the fucking campaign look at that Kiefer Sutherland show "Designated Survivor", and think "Hey, what if we did that in real life...you know...wipe out most of our own government?  But not like a terrorist attack or anything, just a voluntarily stupid event in the Rose Garden.  I think Kal Penn is available to produce."

I always heard that the reason you never hear jokes about Jonestown is because the punchline is too long.

  4. Anybody else notice how much our defenders, behind the trenches, take each other out of a play? Someone gets a hand on the ball carrier and one of our other guys knocks him out of the play, or injures a teammate. A perfect example was Overshown getting hit under the chin. They are so intent on delivering a devastating blow and still don't use their arms to wrap up.

  5. I know midwesterners are serious about their corn. When I was leasing for oil and gas up there it didn't matter if you were bringing them a $200k check. If it was harvest or "shelling" time, the check had to wait.

It's nice out there.  What's the HOA situation like?

Not bad at all. Normal shit like you can't leave boats and trailers in your driveway, trash cans can't be left out in full view unless its trash day. But trash, security, street maintenance, and all the golf you can play only runs $157 a month. Courses are top notch, mini verde greens, Arkansas crushed granite sand traps, bent grass fairways. Supposedly the best golf course community for the price in the USA. Less than an hour to downtown Ft. Worth in normal traffic, Clubhouse pours strong drinks.. The demographic is trending younger.

If you want to do it right, grade, compact, treat with hydrated lime, then put whatever you feel like because you now have a firm subbase that will last. Personally, I'd still put a layer of base even with the fiber concrete.

Thanks guys, I'll be sure to make these recommendations. I'll post pics once we are done.

  8. The road base would be rolled with a road roller. All concrete cracks due to moisture and settling. From what I understand about FRC is that the fibers do not let the crack spread wider, unlike with rebar. It's also vastly cheaper overall. Going to a 3500 psi concrete and fiber is only about an extra $10 per yard, my job is about 15,000 sq/ft so the 200 yards would only be about $3000 extra. It's really a pretty cool product. Here is a pretty good video Gil:

  9. I know we have enough engineers, contractors, and construction folks here to get some good info. I am building a road into some property that I purchased. The bids are about the same. One is traditional asphalt, but I would be the one installing the road base on the half of the road that already doesn't have base. My concrete guy said he could use 3" of fiber reinforced concrete, and we wouldn't really need any base. The soil is sandy loam with little to no rock. The heaviest loads will be 20k pounds at the most. He has been using FRC on his flatwork at 3500 psi and has had no issues. Does anybody have experience with this stuff?

Soo. I’m going to replace a lack of a deer feeder on the back half of my hunting grounds tomorrow. we didn’t get to depopulate the hogs as much as I had hoped we would this summer so the hog pipe just kinda kept them fed. Dumb me.

It’s rolling plains Texas (Wilbarger co) but we had some decent deer all season, only took one buck and one doe. The 3 big bucks are still a round and so are a couple of smaller bucks we’ve seen in late spring.

Here’s my question. Any of y’all put chicken wire around yalls feeders to keep the coons, hogs and squirrels from robbing the feeder blind? Seems to be a mixed bag from my searching online about knocking down the spread to more hassle than it’s worth to couldn’t live without it. I passed on the prebuilt spreader cage as most of what I read says the coons can easily reach through and still get the corn.

I bought some 2” chicken wire mesh in prep but figured I’d hit y’all up before I spend the time and effort tomorrow after the drive out.

We ended up buying the Spintech feeder motors with the drop down spring that shoves back up against the feeder spout. https://www.amazon.com/SpinTech-12VDEZSU-Volt-Digital-Spinner/dp/B003TJ9WEE/ref=pd_lpo_200_t_1/146-1838616-7453019?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B003TJ9WEE&pd_rd_r=ce0efdb6-57d7-4cbb-99a2-b023c63ec96b&pd_rd_w=jO81i&pd_rd_wg=Ju9P4&pf_rd_p=7b36d496-f366-4631-94d3-61b87b52511b&pf_rd_r=X26ME6D3093B2NPEX51M&psc=1&refRID=X26ME6D3093B2NPEX51M

We had as much trouble with high wind blowing corn out of the feeders as we did with coons and squirrels, and this fixed the problem. You can also just buy the Spintech head and plate to put on your feeder motors for about $36.

  11. I had a cousin that was with the ATF at the Branch Davidian raid, and my best friend retired as the Senior Investigator for Ellis County DA's office. Both of them didn't care for No-Knock raids. Both said that it would be so much easier to nab suspects when they went to the store to get bread and milk. It seems as though some departments get off on a show of force, others won't take the time for surveillance to catch a suspect out in the open. My buddy that retired from Ellis County said he could usually get the DA to allow him a few days to attempt to locate and arrest the suspect before they executed a raid. It would make much more sense for any new investment in law enforcement to be for surveillance equipment, such as tracking devices, drones, and stealth cameras.

Tried Revolver Blood and Honey last night for the first time.  Great recommendation  You are right, this beer makes you want a damn good burger to go with it.  Will keep in the rotation.  Cheers.

Revolver is about 5 minutes from my house, you need to go to one of their Saturday afternoon tastings, they have some really good beers that are not in stores. They have a stout (Mother's Little Fracker)that is really good, the Revolver Bock is better than Shiner. I think you can get the Bock at HEB now. Their brewmaster was the head brewmaster at Samuel Adams for decades, even seen him on a Sam Adams commercial. He was from Texas and wanted to come home. Brett, the owner before they sold out to Coors is also a Texas-Ex.

  13. I've gotten to where I only do head shots on deer that I am not considering mounting, or I aim at the white spot under their chin if they are good enough for a European mount. If you hit them it kills them with no running after the shot, if you miss you miss completely (I guess, haven't missed yet). For long shots, I make a noise to get them to face me head on, to get a bit of forgiveness on bullet drop. After losing a couple in my younger years, this has worked well for me.

Charge was Street Racing.  Another Tech player was arrested for same thing in June...

Lol. If they suspended football players for street racing, back in the 80's when I was in school, there wouldn't have been enough players in all of Bosque County to field a football team. Before the internet, that's all we did for fun when we didn't have time to hunt, fish, fuck, or shoot guns. And in Lubbock, you don't have to worry about corners, or objects to hit, just slow down to under 120 and pull back on the road a couple of hundred yards and get back onto the road.

What would you say if when the kids come back to school, they just sit on their laptop with headphones in, listening to a zoom meeting that the teacher is conducting 15 feet away?  That'd be stupid right?

That sort of defeats the purpose doesn't it.  I only say tht because that's what's going on at our local high school.  They let in special ed and esl kids for the last 2 weeks.  There's maybe 30 kids in a building meant for 3000.  Meanwhile probably 50 football players are put into 2 busses to go play a scrimmage.

On younger kids, it means that no one has to stay home to watch the kids, if the kids are back at school. A lot of Surly has jobs where you can work from home, that isn't the real World reality of most folks. The reality for most of America is that they are a dual income family that has had at least one bread winner having to stay home for childcare, and helping with schoolwork. Having been off since March means any savings they had has been exhausted in the last six months. There is a lot of arrogance in the crowd that can afford for the wife or husband not having to work, or can work from home. Those in the real World have fucking bills to pay. What is worse, your 8 year old has a higher risk of getting COVID, or you get 4 months behind on your mortgage? There are some really tough choices having to be be made by families that need both incomes to make ends meet.
