  1. Two questions here:

    1) my Indian hawthorns are sloooooowly coming back. I don’t think I want to wait xx years for them to return to their former glory. I want to replace them and have ruled out several plants including more hawthorns, box woods and lingstrums. Any thoughts on the Rhaphiolepis family? I would have to keep it trimmed down a little below it’s max size. Happened to see some over at the landscaping place.

    2) my oak apparently did not like the freeze and looks like shit. Was going to have someone come out and trim it up and move on. Any problem with this? Should I give it time to grow over the summer and then trim it?

  2. Probably not, no.
The likelihood that girl-in-pink would have died from a stab wound or two received before Bryant could've been taken down non-lethally is pretty low.
I realize this statement of common sense will be jumped on as me saying the officer shouldn't have shot Bryant. That's not what it means at all, it's just pointing out the obvious reality that stabbings are very often not actually fatal.
Let the bad faith misrepresentations begin...

I’ve only gone back a few pages so sorry if this has been discussed, but the Ma’Khia Bryant story could have ended up like this one, where indeed a stabbing turned fatal. IMO deadly force is warranted where another human is in imminent danger from another one wielding a knife. But this story is probably not gaining national attention because police were not involved.

  3. Honest Thief. Liam Neeson stars as a bank robber with a conscience. Neeson movies are like pancakes on an Sunday morning. You’ve had them before. You’ll have them again. You’ll enjoy every bite and look forward to the next time.

  4. Sweet, an official surly shower valve thread!

So, I’m replacing two shower faucets outright. The originals are made by Valley if that tells you anything. Settled on a Moen. The Moen website says “VALVE REQUIRED: This trim kit requires valve # 2510, 2520, 2570, or 2590 to complete installation”

Surly shower valve gods, what’s the difference?

  5. How does USAA compare to the field?

I've found better coverage for less.  I'm a long time USAA member too.

Bumping this thread because it’s time for me to renew. I’ve used USAA in the past but haven’t lately because A) their premiums have been a little higher than others and B) when I did a roofing claim with them it took forever for my contractor to get his money.

That said, my “insurance guy” has told me everyone is coming back much higher this time, on par for customers around DFW. Like 20% plus higher. So now the rates are on par with USAA’s. May switch back since it’s just easier and I use them for car insurance. Has anyone else seen similar lately?
  6. Following. Our 10 year old Samsung w/d set is showing signs of crapping out.

And they’re done. Just installed this unit with the matching dryer.

We gave a set of GE’s a trial run but the washer failed miserably. Noisy spin cycle and it couldn’t figure out spin cycles on unbalanced loads, a common gripe in reviews. (These https://www.geappliances.com/appliance/GE-5-0-cu-ft-Capacity-Smart-Front-Load-ENERGY-STAR-Steam-Washer-with-SmartDispense-UltraFresh-Vent-System-with-OdorBlock-and-Sanitize-Allergen-GFW850SPNRS ).

We narrowed it down to these two sets because of the reversible doors. Our washer connection is to the right of the dryer, apparently very non standard.
