  1. I spent a few years as a yute up in DC back when they were actually good (the late 80s Gibbs era). Part of what made the fan experience so great was the seats at the old RFK swaying back and forth while Hail to the Redskins thundered throughout the stands. I don’t disagree the name should go, but so far I like the Warriors idea the best. I’m just hoping that whatever happens the associated traditions don’t die. It’s a special thing.

  2. Sadly, not the Onion

‘Master bedroom’ is joining Aunt Jemima as a thing of the past

Real estate agents are dropping the label to avoid alienating clients.

Along with Aunt Jemima and Confederate statues, a familiar feature in real estate advertisements is being retired.

Property agents and multiple listing services are dropping the term “master bedroom” because of potential negative connotations.

The Houston Association of Realtors just made the change, replacing the terms master bedroom and master bathroom with “primary” bedrooms and baths.
  3. Or maybe it's just a fucking knot someone tied.  As always, the demand for racism in this country far outpaces the supply. Why that pisses some of you off so much is anyone's guess.

Oct 2019: hey Jim, the door pull in that stall just snapped. Can you replace it and maybe make it a little more sturdy? Maybe it’ll last longer.

    June 2020: OMG #racism

  4. So now there’s this outta NASCAR.

    https://www.espn.com/racing/nascar/story/_/id/29345568/nascar-says-noose-found-bubba-wallace-garage-talladega

NASCAR said it is investigating after a noose was found in the garage of black driver Bubba Wallace on Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway in Lincoln, Alabama.

"Late this afternoon, NASCAR was made aware that a noose was found in the garage stall of the 43 team. We are angry and outraged, and cannot state strongly enough how seriously we take this heinous act," NASCAR said in a statement. "We have launched an immediate investigation, and will do everything we can to identify the person(s) responsible and eliminate them from the sport.

Thanks to Jussie Smollett, who knows what to believe.

  5. I saw the November show in Reunion Arena after 9/11 (2001) three observations:

    1)  NO DOUBT was the opening act and they couldn't get off the stage fast enough for me. They were painful to have to endure.

    2) The lights were up after No Doubt as the stage was being redone and yada-yada-yada. They were playing songs from various artists as you would hear at any concert. And then, randomly, a U2 song started playing over the PA. Lights totally on. The song was "Elevation", from their current album (at that time), so I was thinking "WTF?"

Then the band comes out and gets their instruments with the lights just totally on and then BAM, they pick up right where the song is and the PA version is killed and they're in the middle of their first song of their set.

It was pretty fucking awesome. That was totally a "We're U2... BITCH!" move. Never even heard of a band doing that before, much less had I seen it.

    3) During the song "New York", they projected the names of all of the first responders who died that day. (And maybe more, but definitely the first responders.)

I was at that Dallas U2 show. It was awesome. The version of Elevation you are looking for that they walked in with is the Influx remix. Blurb of which was also in the Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider flick at the time.

  6. My 13-year-old self liked what I saw.

    Re: She’s a Beauty

There are lists of best songs from the 80s, and there are lists of songs that take you right back to a time and place in the 80s. This for me is squarely in the latter.

    So is this one

  7. I loathed it. Robert Palmer is one of the most mediocre songwriters in music history.

That song and Simply Irresistible were huge because of the Powerstation sound and videos. But yeah agreed, otherwise terrible songs. He timed it right during MTV’s heyday for sure.
  8. SIAP, I’m rarely on this board. My $0.02. You can’t eradicate racism. You can however identify, uproot and defeat institutionalized racism. Start with reining in the police unions and getting rid of qualified immunity. Then maybe we can say we accomplished something with these protests.

I’ll see my way out of CR now...
