  1. So the FBI Director is incorrect? He posted that they had a suspect.
  2. Suspect in Charlie Kirk shooting is in custody, FBI says From CNN's Aditi Sangal A suspect in the shooting and killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk is now in custody, FBI Director Kash Patel announced. “The subject for the horrific shooting today that took the life of Charlie Kirk is now in custody. Thank you to the local and state authorities in Utah for your partnership with @fbi,” Patel wrote in a post on X.

  4. Nothing. He disappeared into the wind. Only thing so far is grainy photos of dots that are supposed to be someone on the roof. Investigators have not identified a suspect, federal law enforcement sources say From CNN's Evan Perez and Hannah Rabinowitz Investigators don’t have a suspect identified in the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and have launched a manhunt, two federal law enforcement officials told CNN. Attorney General Pam Bondi said that agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the FBI are at the scene to assist. Law enforcement officers can be seen in video footage combing buildings, including rooftops, at the perimeter of the open-air venue where the shooting occurred at Utah Valley University, an apparent effort to collect evidence including possible shell casings.
  5. Yeah, the person showing his ass right now doesn't post in CR so maybe you should say a good reminder of why I stay out of DT.
  6. Pretty much every single person who was there yesterday was either the Dean of Admissions (Colorado College, Macalister, Sarah Lawrence) or someone older than me (49) or around my age who was in the office of admissions. I wanted to speak directly with someone from Grinnell as I don't want to fly to Iowa to learn more and they came instead to my area. I wanted my daughter to talk further with both Grinnell and Colorado College so she can make sure she's still wanting to apply to them and feels the same way about them as she did earlier. I also wanted her to see some other options since she liked those two so much. Sure, we could've done all of this from our laptop. I saw value in spending 40 minutes driving to Duncanville to listen to presentations on these schools and to get my questions answered. I wanted her to learn more about how best to become a therapist at these colleges and what options they offer as far as internships and experiences that could aid her on this decision. Had the event been better attended, we probably don't get more than a few minutes with these people. Instead, we got almost 10 minutes with each of the schools she was interested in. This event is going to have me looking into the next virtual open house for Grinnell like my daughter attended on her own. It was pretty valuable to both of us as we had a great 40 minute conversation about colleges on our drive home.
  7. Trump confirmed he has died.
  8. Okay. Point still stands. Another non-Gen Z guy shot 2 Congress people in Minnesota that he was opposed to their beliefs, killing one. So while we decry the current generation and their intolerance, let's not forget who they're learning it from.
  9. Ha. No. No East Coast schools are being considered. The furthest she may go is Iowa. Macalister might be fun as the Twin Cities are great but she's a fragile child and the bitter cold might break her.
  10. Maybe think "is this something I should post" before you hit Submit Reply next time. You helped that thread go off the rails with your post. It was always going to go off the rails given the subject of it but you lit the fuse.
  11. So who the fuck is the shooter?
  12. Charlie Kirk shot. 3 high school students in Evergreen, Colorado were shot in their high school today. This is America.
  13. There have been dozens of shootings at schools in the US this year From CNN's Alex Leeds Matthews, Amy O’Kruk and Annette Choi Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot at an event at Utah Valley University today — marking the 46th shooting that took place at a school in the United States so far this year. Twenty-four were on college campuses and 22 were on K-12 school grounds. The incidents left 18 people dead and at least 76 other victims injured, according to CNN’s analysis of events reported by the Gun Violence Archive, Education Week and Everytown for Gun Safety. CNN cross checks these reports of school shootings against school and police accounts and media reports. All incidents of gun violence are included if they occurred on school property, from kindergartens through colleges/universities, and at least one person was shot, not including the shooter. This post has been updated with additional information about how CNN tracks shootings at schools.
  14. Thread is a tad ironic given the violence an old person did today against someone who said things he didn't like.
  15. I don't think anyone knows yet but given where he was speaking at, any rooftop could've been used. Actually, saw this on CNN.com A suspect is in custody, the university said in a statement. Kirk was invited by a student group and was speaking when a shot was fired from a campus building about 200 yards away.
  16. Sure but you're dealing with a nation of angry people who have easy access to guns. They shoot Congress people they disagree with, they kill school kids, they shot people like Charlie Kirk. How exactly are we going to stop this stuff?
  17. Sure but the social media aspect of this is new and now you can amplify and pressure administrations into action on a level not possible before unless you went to a school board meeting.
  18. Here we go again. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/10/us/politics/kamala-harris-book-biden-107-days.html?campaign_id=60&emc=edit_na_20250910&instance_id=162265&nl=breaking-news&regi_id=113828515&segment_id=205639&user_id=89756bbda443ddaabc11c32d7e4e360e
  19. So as we've seen from this example, social media shaming adults into action is partially to blame. It has empowered young people to feel they don't have to listen to something they don't agree with or they feel runs counter to their religious beliefs or overall belief system. Some are fine with this until it's their beliefs that are the ones being attacked and removed. Then it's a bridge too far.
  20. The same group that let him stand up and pump his fist after getting shot instead of rushing him off the stage and to the hospital? Yeah, they're massively incompetent.
  21. Ha. The guy did say when I asked about the ease of getting there that you choose to fly into Des Moines or Cedar Rapids and rent a car. Initially, they sent her some good email marketing about how tight knit of a community they are. I think to someone who is scared about going away, that really resonated with her. She really enjoyed the virtual tour and talk they gave. I spoke with the representative last night from Grinnell and he helped put my mind at ease a bit. He talked about how only 8% of students at Grinnell are in-state so the rest are out of state and international students. Most everyone there are in the same boat of not knowing people. Since the campus and town are small, they rely more on each other. I haven't verified this but he said Harvard did a study on friendship bias which is how do students over different socio-economic and cultural classes interact with one another. The study found Grinnell had the lowest amount of this of all the colleges they surveyed. We talked about if she was accepted, we would take a visit there in the winter. He actually encouraged that as he completely gets that Iowa is not what a lot of people think of when they're thinking their ideal college destination. I think the vibe of it really felt good to her. We had a discussion on the car ride home about each college and what going to that city might mean. For Colorado College, you have a tremendous playground that I would be mad if she didn't take advantage of. For Grinnell, your college is your world there so you have to be sure that you're good with not having much else to do outside of campus. We had a good time at the small college fair. It was poorly attended which was sad for the reps who flew in for it but it allowed us to meet with the ones she was interested with and not compete for time like the other fair we went to. I don't know why they thought Duncanville was a good location as you cut off a lot of Northern Dallas which is more their target audience. I think maybe 20 people were there. Each one had a 5 minute presentation about their college which was helpful. We're already onboard with Colorado College who was there and I wanted to hear more about Grinnell. We also talked to Macalister College in St Paul, Minnesota which interested her. We've been to the Twin Cities before as she had a friend that lived there but she previously hadn't given that area much thought. There were some others there like Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY that were interesting to hear from but I'm not sure she's that interested in heading east if it's not NYC she's attending school in. They're about 30 minutes north near Yonkers. Connecticut College was there. Very pretty campus right near the Long Island Sound. Some others we ruled out that were there were Claremont McKenna in California, Haverford outside of Philly, and Kenyon which is in Ohio. She has at least 3 she would like to apply for now and we had a nice talk about applying with Colorado College. Still nothing from our college guy. Just so weird.
  22. Did they kill plastic straws? I feel like that was a self-own.
  23. Posts clip from movie where the villains are a gaggle of bro-Republicans and an asshole administrator.
  24. That might be difficult given no Big 10 teams reside in the Mountain Time Zone. Maybe they'll try to roll out a 9am PST game for Big Noon but I highly doubt it. I guess we'll find out on 10/11 if Oregon and Indiana are both undefeated or they want Michigan at USC for that time. Doubtful as well as Ohio State-Illinois is right there for Big Noon. I did chuckle that the Michigan State fans get to watch their team play USC at 10PM EST in a few weeks. Welcome to Big 10 After Dark, MSU.
