  1. "Larry, you put the damn bolts on didn't you?" "Well, yeah, but you didn't say I needed to tighten them."
  2. If a different airline (United) is finding loose bolts across multiple relatively new planes, sounds like a Boeing issue, not an Alaska issue.
  3. I'm 99% sure it's a title thing for money. It's the title Choate had but he was not playcalling in any capacity.
  4. Well they did do really shoddy maintenance on the horizontal stabilizer that led to that crash off California about 20 years ago. I wouldn't rule it out.
  5. Most of the clips online purporting to demonstrate why our pass defense struggled just show Penix being Penix and making incredible throws against decent to good coverage. But there were critical plays that were over before they started that any average offense would have easily exploited. Take UW's critical 4th quarter drive after we pulled to within 6 and absolutely needed a stop; a score by them - any score - probably means the game is over. On 2nd and 11, we give up an easy pitch and catch with our corner way off in bail coverage on the fucking TE (who motioned outside just before the snap, which is what Rod B was talking about in the postgame). Then on 3rd and 2, on a must stop play, we again roll with soft zone coverage. There's a small chance 23 year old me could have made that throw. Maybe Burke was supposed to drop in a zone, but that would have left the flat for the back wide open. This is the shit that's maddening. I'm not upset we got beat on these plays. It's how we got beat. Pussy ass shit in a do or die situation. Upgrading personnel alone won't fix this.
  6. Michigan by 10. Washington can't run and can't stop the run. In all my years watching CFB, I don't ever recall a championship team with those two traits. Khakis will run the gameplan Sark should have pivoted to: pound the rock and keep it away from Penix. Their pass rush and secondary is much better than ours. I think Big Blue pulls away in the 4th.
  7. I may question our pass defense and Sark's playcalling at times, but I do not question his roster building and recruiting. Losing JT sucks, but it was anticipated and Sark will address it.
  8. Is CDC going to get them a boat club membership? Too soon?
  9. Def this. Here's a good discussion of these scheme issues. I think our defensive struggles came down to, in order of importance: 1) Washington's offense is really good and Penix had the best game of his career; hats off to them. 2) Many of our DBs are poor in coverage, in terms of both raw talent and development 3) PK has a tendency to dial up defenses against good passing offenses that sometimes seem destined to lose even before the ball is snapped (see the video above). On 2, some development issues that we have seen throughout the year are: a) our guys do not play the ball well in the air. Even when they are in good position and are not burned, they never turn for the ball. b) when they play up in man, they rarely if ever get good contact on the WRs to knock them off their routes and disrupt timing c) our safeties take bad angles and make poor reads On 3, I have a theory that Sark and PK's vision of the defense may not be completely aligned. During the season, Sark made comments at PCs that we needed to be more aggressive defensively. I've noticed we have played a lot more press man at the snap than we used to (during his Sugar Bowl availability, PK indicated some recent changes in pass defense had been made). We are not very good at it. Related to the video above, I think some of PK's blitz packages may be tied more to his legacy softer zoner coverages on the back end. This is just a theory though. If you listen to his PC, PK very much prefers a "make them drive the whole field" approach, but later in the season we played with much more aggressive alignments. Penix made us pay for this.
  10. counterpoint: we were undefeated against right-handed QBs this year.
  11. @South Austin summarized my thoughts exactly. But I am puzzled by the whole "coming back/NFL" talk. Putting aside recruiting rankings and stats juiced by playing for Sark, QE is a wildly inconsistent, better-than-average college QB. He certainly does not look like an NFL QB. On that, I'm Tom Hanks in Big with the robot toy.
  12. I was happy with Sark getting us a Big 12 championship, and viewed the playoffs as gravy (I never expected us to be this good this year). There is some rationalization in this because once I saw we drew Washington, I figured they would probably beat us. They are a bad matchup for us. Their offense is elite and they outcoached us last year in the Alamo Bowl. Just as they did this year.
  13. Rod b mentioned in the post game that Washington often used motion and shifts to put a wr outside of their (initial) outside receiver, turning our outside corners into slot corners. It fucked up our leverage and assignments and we had no answer all game. I noticed this several times at the game from my shit end zone seats, but was not smart enough to appreciate the implications. Unfortunately, I don’t think PK was either. We played two good passing teams all year and got shredded both times. Sark needs to self scout and make some adjustments on the defensive side. Just upgrading talent alone is not going to fix the issue.
  14. We get called for lots of penalties, including pre-snap penalties, because this team loves to shit itself in the dick. That's a coaching issue I guess. What's maddening is that every team we play seems to have their cleanest game of the season when we play them and refs rarely call things even handedly. It's horseshit.
  15. Nah, I’ve seen three years. He’s not good against the pass.
  16. Tip of the cap to Udub, as their line (in pass blocking), WRs, and QB are elite - the best in cfb. Also, our DBs are not very good and we do not have a great pass rusher. Given all that, PK is not very good against the pass, and I doubt he will ever be. We don't do anything well in the backend - man, zone, doesn't matter. I counted probably 10 times tonight that Washington used motion and shifts and they had receivers catching the ball wide open. I could see it early in the play from my shitty end zone seats. That's scheme and loading up on 5 stars won't fix it. I think we will probably get abused by good passing teams as long as he is here.
  17. looked like one of my rainbow duck passes to my kids
  18. Penn State is without Manny. Advantage Penn State.
  19. In all my years of internetting, I still have not figured out a/the way to read reddit. Threads are impossible to follow linearly.
