  1. Informative thread that rips apart a study claiming increased violence from the left and decreased from the right, which has already been cited in various news reports. John Horgan is a prof at GA State who studies the psychology of terrorism. full thread https://bsky.app/profile/johnhorgan.bsky.social/post/3lzqclq3s622q

  4. I hope this happens... Live sports are in many ways the lifeblood of broadcast television in 2025. No other programming attracts the type of audience that flocks to live sports. And as we enter the heart of football season, when ABC will be airing a full slate of SEC football on Saturdays along with the NFL’s Monday Night Football most weeks, we could be in for a high-stakes game of chicken between Disney and companies like Sinclair and Nexstar should they continue to preempt Kimmel. Prior to last month, when ESPN launched its brand new direct-to-consumer app, the leverage would have been skewed heavily towards Disney. If Disney pulled ABC programming from its Sinclair and Nexstar-owned affiliates, there would have been no means by which sports fans could access live games scheduled for the network. Now, while it might not be ideal, fans could purchase ESPN’s direct-to-consumer product to access that programming, regardless of whether or not their local ABC affiliate was carrying the game.
  5. If you're looking for a lesson from this story about a Sweetwater man Doordashing his order for bleach, trash bags, zip ties and a hatchet to his motel room, one possible lesson is to split up your order so it doesn't look quite so suspicious. The other, I suppose, is don't do meth. Or take hostages. Door dash driver alerts police to hostage situation after delivering suspicious items to Sweetwater motel https://www.bigcountryhomepage.com/news/sweetwater/door-dash-driver-alerts-police-to-hostage-situation-after-delivering-suspicious-items-to-sweetwater-motel/ SWEETWATER, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A door dash driver alerted police to a hostage situation after delivering suspicious items to a Sweetwater motel Monday morning. Neil Cooper has been identified as the suspect involved in the hostage situation at the Sweetwater Inn on Georgia Avenue around 11:30 a.m. A door dash called police to the motel because he was suspicious due to a delivery he made to Cooper’s room, but they did not disclose what items were involved, according to a press release from the Sweetwater Police Department. Witnesses told KTAB and KRBC Cooper ordered items like trash bags, zip ties, bleach, a hatchet, and more. When officers arrived at Cooper’s motel room, he refused to exit and advised he was armed. They also found a hostage being held inside. This hostage was quickly rescued then arrested for an outstanding warrant for Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 out of Snyder as well. He’s also charged with Failure to Identify. No further information, including the hostage’s identity, has been released.

  15. You know spacex is failing when NASA insiders are leaking to the NYT about how far behind the program is. Apparently <gasp> Elmo has over-promised and under-delivered. https://archive.ph/5iIrb The former reality tv dude who's now head of NASA among other roles for which he's highly unqualified (FAA, USDOT) says there's nothing to see.

  17. I thought the hype about SN chili crab hype led to disappointment. I'd visit as many hawker markets around the country as possible, possibly on a tour and then go back to your faves. The food at those places was incredible and the environments were very entertaining. I'd get a tour of Chinatown and maybe of the Indian neighborhood, and go to the botanic park, which is an amazing display at an incredible location. The waterfront is nice but as stated, touristy af, so not my thing.

  19. --the text from Uncle Joe to the Aspiration CEO expressing concern that the Aspiration CFO was holding up Kawhi's endorsement contract and wasn't on-board with the scheme --the Aspiration marketing VP not knowing who Kawhi is and everyone at Aspiration figuring out it was shady because they were paying him so much and he was so boring, only later finding out it was purposely a no-show job --huge staff turnover at Aspiration soon after their founding and Ballmer putting in ~50 mil$$ including not having a CFO or comptroller because all the finance execs could see there was ongoing fraud and they bailed. --even if the two Clippers "investors" didn't take time to do financial due diligence the huge money losses at the company were public including with exposes in Forbes, and no other investors would touch it
  20. All of that. One of the funniest was the discussion about Cuban's comment that Ballmer would have been an idiot if he didn't throw additional money at Aspiration to try to keep them afloat in order to keep his cheating on the NBA salary cap and financial fraud from becoming public. Followed by a former Aspiration employee and leaked financial records obtained by Torre stating Ballmer did exactly that. Also on the other podcast Cuban took the time to go on while saying he was too busy to speak with Torre again so he didn't have to face someone who actually knows what they're talking about, Cuban questioned all of Torre's reporting by imagining that there were plenty of other investors putting money into Aspiration. But nope, only Ballmer and his Clippers partner were putting in money (and enabling Kawhi to get paid) right up until a Federal agency showed up at their HQ for an investigation and ended the shell game. Torre also unveiled an incriminating letter from the Clippers CFO. Also there was discussion about Cuban saying to Torre that you only have the side of partner A, who's now a convicted criminal so your reporting is questionable, and that Partner B is the supposed key and will have a different story, Cuban imagined, because partner B was not indicted. But Torre obtained texts/emails, and copies from partner B's deposition that were all highly incriminating of both partner B and Ballmer in just an extremely stupid and hilarious manner. Ballmer is running around claiming he was defrauded but he put in something like $118m into Aspiration -- and between Kawhi getting paid and the Clippers getting paid for a "sponsorship" from a company that seemed to be fraudulent right from the start, his net was pretty close to 0, from what I can recall.
  21. I hit play on ep 4 this afternoon not knowing if there was new info or if it would be a rehash of previous reports. I was not disappointed. Incredible reporting and very entertaining breaking news. "Ballmer is highly respected among his fellow owners and right up until all the new evidence started piling up we were all hoping there was nothing to this story." lulz
  22. Your question didn't seem bitchy at alI. I had seen the preview, did not read the book, and figured I wasn't going to like the film but gave it a shot just because I went along with a group and it wasn't my choice. Other opinions...I thought the acting was generally good and certainly the film has excellent production value. Cooper seemed like a natural. I thought the actor who played Charlie was likable but there were times when he wasn't a natural fit- to me, he seemed too polished for the role he was playing and came across more as an actor than a character, if that makes sense.
  23. That was about the point I would have bailed if I had been by myself - the 15 mile mark. Dystopian, gory flicks aren't my thing.
  24. The Long Walk. Went with the crowd against my better judgment. I should've kept walking. Worst, most boring, cringe movie I've ever seen.
