  1. I don't know why y'all keep saying 3 seconds. From 30 seconds to 48 seconds of the video on the first page the cop is telling him to keep the window down. Then he's like fuck that, get out of the car right now. They told him 5 times to exit the car. They opened the door and the driver was just beginning to undo his seat belt, is what it looked like to me.
  2. What amazes me is how many of you are ignorant of the fucking law. And, while we're on the topic, why it is the way it is. Any and every asshole in this country is liable to have a deadly firearm on their person or in their vehicle. A cop never knows what they're walking up on. That's why they're programmed to give direct orders and why courts will back them up nearly every single time.
  3. LOL. They ordered him to roll down the window. And then they ordered him to exit the vehicle. If they don't think you're moving fast enough, you'll find out exactly the way the driver found out -they'll drag you out.
  4. Did I write something to the contrary?
  5. He failed to obey a lawful order. If you don't want to believe me, take a look at Mark Thiessen's website Your Rights During a Traffic Stop | Thiessen Law Firm (thetexastrialattorney.com)
  6. I'd guess that's why the cop asked him why he didn't have it on. Gave the driver the opportunity to incriminate himself.
  7. He was fine to stay in his vehicle until the moment the officer ordered him to exit. The officer isn't required to give or even have a reason to tell the driver to exit. I'm just telling you the law as courts have interpreted it, including the Supreme Court. These types of interactions are one reason some civil rights advocates are in favor of the use speed cameras. That way there's nobody getting pulled over and there's no chance for civilians to have this type of interaction with the cops over a small infraction.
  8. You're legally required to follow orders to roll down your window as well as to get out of the vehicle. This isn't about mere expectations, but if you don't keep your hands visible you're putting yourself at risk. These are things to know should you get pulled over. If you want to exit the vehicle even though a cop hasn't ordered you to, ask permission first.
  9. Bro, try disobeying the orders of a cop sometime and find out what happens. On the level of civil rights violations committed by police every fucking day in this country, this incident would not even be a blip on the radar were it not for the driver being a celeb.
  10. If you watch the longer video there's a part maybe halfway through where one of the cops tells the first cop who approached the car that the driver was a Miami Dolphin.
  11. That wasn't my point. I'm talking about the expectations of the cop. Keep your hands within view anytime you get pulled over. The driver repeatedly disobeyed orders.
  12. I dunno what to tell you. These are basic expectations/laws when you get pulled over. If the cop tells you to roll down your window, you have to comply. If the cop tells you to exit your vehicle, you must comply. Now legislatures, including in FL, are creating "Buffer Zones" where if they're responding to a situation, someone can be ordered to move out of the buffer zone. That was the problem with at least one of the teammates (the one behind the incident).
  13. He disobeyed orders repeatedly. The tinted windows likely didn't help. It may also just be their agency's procedure when they have an uncooperative driver. You're "expected" to keep your hands within view, and he was uncooperative right from the start when he didn't roll down his window even a crack after being pulled over.
  14. I'm not defending all of the cop's behavior, by any means. I'm merely talking about what happened in the first 1 minute of the incident.
  15. The police can order you to exit your vehicle for any reason they want. That includes Texas. For example, if they smell alcohol. If they suspect danger. For any number of reasons.
  16. They told him at least 3 times to exit, probably more like 5. It was a total of more than 10 seconds. (And that was after the time the cop spent telling him to roll down his window, which the guy refused.) Even when they opened his door and tried to pull him out it seemed like he was resisting getting out. I'm not sure.
  17. I'm firmly on Team Most Cops Are Bastards but his status as a NFL player is irrelevant. He was ordered to exit the vehicle and if a person disobeys that order, that's exactly what to expect to happen.
  18. He was legally required to obey the order to roll down his window, and he was legally required to exit the vehicle when ordered.
  19. I would guess because it's a high volume traffic situation on a road with high speeds and no apparent pull over lane, so there's more of them to mitigate the risk to LEO of a traffic accident resulting from the traffic stop.
  20. I think they pulled him over for speeding, then when the window was down, the cop observed the driver didn't have on his seat belt.
  21. front page right now of a leading purveyor of word games - ya hate to see it.
  22. My then gf, now wife, and I met him in the US Capitol (Statuary Hall) at a reception honoring Nelson Mandela. He was extremely gracious and kind to strangers expressing their admiration for him. He was exactly the kind of guy you'd expect him to be. Love this story from the WP's obit:
