  5. According to sources, the restrictions were imposed at request of China. If true, seems very significant. https://united24media.com/latest-news/uae-banks-block-russian-transactions-for-chinese-electronics-russian-media-reports-1971 Banks in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been rejecting transactions from Russian companies seeking electronic components and consumer electronics from China since early August, according to pro-Kremlin outlet Kommersant on August 28. The reported reason for this is the risk of secondary sanctions, the outlet claimed. Kommersant's sources, who remain unnamed, indicate that Russian firms had been using UAE-based entities to transfer funds to China for goods to be shipped directly to Russia. Now, transactions for products that do not pass through the Gulf country are being blocked, the outlet stated. According to these sources, the restrictions were imposed at the initiative of China. Last week, the US introduced a new set of sanctions targeting Chinese and Russian companies due to their support for Moscow's aggression. In response, Chinese institutions have begun reducing their business dealings with Russia to avoid or mitigate the impact of these trade restrictions. Notably, several major Chinese banks have started blocking transactions for electronics due to concerns over secondary sanctions. Most recently, in June, the Russian branch of the Chinese state-run Bank of China ceased accepting payments from Russian banks. Western countries have also reportedly increased pressure on the UAE to prevent Russian entities from circumventing sanctions. The UAE is believed to be a key conduit for sanctioned dual-use goods, such as electronics, being sent to Russia. Throughout Russia's full-scale war, the UAE has maintained economic and cultural ties with Russia but has also forged new trade agreements with Ukraine.
  6. There's a bunch of good to great hikes 10 to 30 minutes from Fort Collins. Boulder has the advantage of being closer to great hikes, in some cases even walking distance from a neighborhood, but it's also more crowded. I like Fort Collins quite a bit. It's not perfect but nowhere is. The city also has miles of wide, paved trails that weave throughout the city for bikes, jogging, etc. You definitely feel like you're in a small city rather than a suburb of Denver. Boulder definitely has better restaurants.

  15. He flew to France voluntarily, was immediately taken into custody by French authorities. Russia demanding access to him, but Durov didn't ask for them. I think it's safe to read between the lines on what's happening. It will be interesting to learn just how "end-to-end" encrypted is telegram. edit - the quote is from The Guardian article.
  16. " A third of contributions during convention week came from first-time contributors. About one-fifth of those first-time contributors were young voters and two-thirds were women, groups that the campaign sees as critical constituencies that Harris needs to turn out to win in November." "The Harris campaign says it has also seen a surge in volunteer support for the vice president. During convention week, supporters signed up for nearly 200,000 volunteer shifts to help the campaign."
