Texas Tech's defense was better than Utah State's this year. It's completely wrong to look at raw totals when trying to judge a unit's strength. Even without getting into the fully adjusted numbers, just look at the average rank of the offenses they faced. Tech - #50, Utah State - #81 after throwing out each team's FCS opponent.

They improved in the red zone but they still pretty much sucked because they gave up a ton of huge plays from beyond the red zone.

Sorry, are you really saying holgo would leave WVU for a $100k raise?  As in less than 3%?

also, Jimbo fishers buyout on that chart brings the lulz for sure

No, just pointing out that Tech already pays more so salary isn't an issue.

Other rumored factors: Holgo and WV admin don't really care for each other

Also: Tech is located in Texas - always a plus - even if it's in Lubbock. 😎

It was an act of cowardice.  Homey is trying to prop sumbeech up like he did something honorable.

This will forever be my memory of Tommy's time here in Lubbock.

Anything, no matter the reason or motive that got him out of town was a good thing.

Good luck. Tech has never had a HC that could recruit to Lubbock. They've had some success with system guys that could consistently make bowl games with the occasional "great" year. Maybe there'll be a "name" guy available and who's looking for a soft landing spot that the admin can stomach .

    I didn't mean out-recruit Texas and OU. I meant out-recruit Baylor.

I’d hate to see coach bro go. I like when Tech sucks. I wish the bowls would shun Baylor, out of principle, but it seems nobody cares anymore that they put football above the safety of their female students and covered it up.

I'm little confused here. Didn't the Bears self-impose a bowl ban after the B12's slap on the wrist regarding Rapegate?

This game is making a lot easier for me to not feel bad about Kliff getting fired.

    This.

Baylor's "rebuild" is an indictment on Kliff's entire tenure at Tech. That the Bears have out-recruited Tech and are now putting better talent on the field with depth to back them up is really all one needs to know.

Kirby, go find someone that can recruit to Lubbock. That's all that really matters.

Sit until TO or COP. If you are out of timeouts, no sitting-out is required. If, after leaving the field, your coach wants you back in the game early, he can call timeout and send you on. Teams that are out of timeouts could still abuse the rule the way they can now, but at some point you have to allow players who may have a real injury to be evaluated without penalty. If the ref is convinced you are gaming the system, he is already able to penalize 15 yds (2d offense, DQd) for unsportsmanlike.

That's the thing, the ref cannot. Faking or not, the refs can't be asked to make that judgement - opens up a whole other can of worms.

Setting a standard for the number of plays that have to be missed allows for the teams to police themselves and decide if the "delay" is worth it.

Tech did this against us 2 weeks ago on our final offensive drive

Yep, Tech has finally joined in on the scam.

It has been used against their offense for years and it's frustrating as all get out. But until the rules are changed there's really no reason not to do it - especially when teams are employing it against you.

Gundy is right and it's been the obvious solution all along but because it's so simple it'll therefore never happen.
