  1. You just know that rival fans are thinking, "Man, our guys are really showing up in the clutch against the Astros. Making big pitches, getting key hits." They don't yet realize they're facing a truly abysmal club still living on former glory.
  2. Maybe Pena can take him under his wing, to speed up learning how to flail at borderline wild pitch sliders.
  3. You speak much truth. We somehow made another deep run last fall, but part of that was good luck in our October seeding draw (plus a surprising deathbed spasm by Chinbeard). Even then, our major flaws already were starting to show themselves. So perhaps the bigger question isn't what's wrong now as much as how we managed to sustain post-sanctions and injuries for as long as we did.
  4. Without checking the actual numbers, I suspect our 6-9 guys can only dream of such a run.
  5. Glad college football is about to crank up. Maybe we'll get some hard contact there.
  6. We left 11 on base. Our only hit with RISP (in 9 tries) was that swinging "bunt" by Pena. Cabbage left 4 in scoring position all by himself, which is impressive with only 2 ABs. But hey, I'm sure Kyle the Gimp will fix everything when he returns to PH on Sept. 29.
  7. If ever a team deserved to be getting their heads kicked in, it's these guys. What a bunch of underperforming clowns. I do feel bad for Brown.
  8. These teams seem to think this is match play golf. Each is trying to end up with the lower score.
  9. If this were opening day, we might struggle to win 60...while lacking a wave of young talent to develop in the process. If that's not discouraging, I don't know what is.
  10. I'll say this: We're a really balanced club. Our relief pitching is every bit as unclutch as our offense, our manager and our front office.
  11. For anyone who still thinks we're just "slumping," tell me which .200 hitter with little power, even less plate discipline and a noodle arm is going to lead us out of these doldrums. At some point, how you play is who you are. For better or worse, call up more kids and give them a go.
  12. Absolutely not. But without the guys who are about to become FAs, along with the DFA disasters, it will at least be a different train wreck than this one. Maybe we sign a decent FA bat, some farmlands make a jump in winter ball, we get good news on an injured starter or two and I can tell myself we're on the road to being really solid again. Or not.
  13. My perspective so far this year seems to have had little impact. Might be better to suggest the batters act like men.
  14. The bloated carcass of a proud dynasty is washing ashore. Can't quite see it yet, but the stench is obvious. When do pitchers and catchers report to Palm Beaches?
  15. They PH their .181 guy and he at least coaxes a walk. Our talentless hacks can't even do that. keep Leon in the lineup. Unlike several other guys, he actually seems to have a clue.
  16. Until further notice, Joe needs to give Pena the take sign...on literally every pitch. Much better odds of reaching base.
  17. Yordan contributing bases-empty singles isn't the cure for this malaise. When was the team's last 4-hit inning? During the pandemic?
  18. In a world of brain-dead players, we're apparently trying to corner the market. It's as if several guys have nonrefundable October cruises planned.
  19. Lowes are 7 for 10 with 5 driven in. Not even taking two surnames to wipe us out.
  20. Wouldn't argue with that. We need way more offense to overcome that obvious shortfall. Which makes it even more painful fielding an offense reminiscent of the Astrodome era.
  21. Water seeks its own level. These days, our level appears to be just a hair over .500.
  22. Lowe blow has us down. How about we start scoring runs?
  23. Yes, still too early for any "son of TOOTBLAN" thoughts.
