  1. I'm even more annoyed than I was at the deadline. Something better start going right pronto.
  2. Find a way to scratch out more runs — especially late — and the pressure on everyone on the staff would ease a lot. We're scoring nearly a half run per game less than in 2023, which is a big dropoff. So it's been an especially bad year to lose most of our starting staff and have setup/closer issues. Our best hope is for a miraculous Tucker return (soon) and for the current 1-4 guys to get insanely hot.
  3. Given where we are, I think we'll overachieve if we win 90 counting the postseason.
  4. Shouldn't be an overly optimistic forecast for August, but I fear it will be. Thrilled to be proved wrong.
  5. Why didn't we make a run at signing Belt? Or did we?
  6. Would have been easier to list the handful of schools not under consideration.
  7. I'm coming around to this idea that if there's anything we DIDN'T need to add, it was more offense. We can win games against the Pirates and their ilk without even scoring. We're the mighty Astros. Mortal teams forfeit in our presence.
  8. I'm all for scoring enough runs that our pitching need not be quite as stellar.
  9. In a pinch, Cruz probably could play 1B.
  10. Diaz never really did it for me his first time around, so I don't expect him to help much now. A less versatile Dubon...and we already have the utility role covered by Dubon himself.
  11. I just hope come October it's not a bridge to nowhere.
  12. Another scary but plausible view is that Brown knows the title window is about to slam shut, so he's unconcerned about overpaying for an inconsistent lefty rental. He figures he's not signing Bregman or Tucker, JV might well be running on fumes, Valdez will keep having critical meltdowns and the various other starters we've lost to injury aren't all likely to reach their peak again. Add the catastrophe of your choice to this list, but it all adds up to betting on a longshot today because this Bentley's balloon payment is coming due in a hurry.
  13. Without the debacle on the field last night it was maybe just a head-scratching trade born of desperation. But Pressly and Hader amped up the anger tenfold.
  14. As ancient and flawed as he is, I'll still rather have Yuli in there for a key AB than about half our roster.
  15. Black Monday. Unless our new pitcher is suddenly prime Koufax or Carlton, thus shall it ever be.
  16. You described most of our current OF and 1B options in just two words. Well done.
  17. How much idiocy can the Astros pack into one evening and still win? We must be approaching the threshold.
  18. I'm predicting this guy will be a huge . . . bust.
  19. I'm not shocked by Canady's move. Stanford has always been a feeder school for Tech.
  20. I like Joey's future. I just hate having him take many swings (or worse yet, called strikes) in key situations at this point in a difficult season. Were we up 10 games and in a position to leisurely plug in young bats to prep them for the future, I'd be all for him getting a good bit of run right now. Maybe that's the case in a month, but at this point I'd rather have most of Joey's ABs being taken by a deadline acquisition.
  21. I'm fine with Loperfido being out there. And by that I mean as a late-inning defensive replacement when we're throwing a fly ball pitcher. No batting at all.
