  1. This morning 75% prediction of storms starting at 3pm and continuing through 10pm with a predicted .4 inches of rain. Now chances down to 46% and down to .04 inches of rain. We ain't getting shit. Also, 10 days straight of 91 - 96 starting Saturday. Hello blastfurnace.
  2. Necro-bumping this thread, as this appears to be the only diabetics thread on Surly. I got a cold about 6 weeks ago and after recovering from it I had a persistent cough and some upper respiratory irritation. Set up a doc visit thinking I'd get on an antibiotic. Stepped on the scale at intake and weight was waaaay down. Actually asked to use a different scale because I thought that scale was wrong. Nope. Same weight on different scale. I was 182 in October. I was 164 on Thursday. I dropped 18 lbs in six months without any change to diet or exercise. Doc was concerned and did blood work. Diagnosed with Type 2. According to my doc, diabetes has been aggressively "eating" my muscle and some of my fat. Got on a glucose monitor and was prescribed metformin. Been taking it since Saturday night but my glucose is still high, regularly hovering around 300 (although right now I think I've hit my low of 239 since I started wearing the monitor. Yay!). Totally changed my diet and am almost exclusively eating proteins and vegetables with the very rare open-faced sandwich of one-piece of whole wheat bread. Eliminated beers and replaced it with tequila sodas. This whole thing seems very weird to me because most type-2 diabetics are pretty significantly overweight (no judgment for those of you that are.) But I was only about 7lbs heavier than I should have been. I've heard you can "cure" yourself of Type 2 diabetes through diet and exercise, but right now I'm significantly underweight and wasting away. Not sure how that's going to work for me because I don't need to get my weight under control. I have a follow up with the doc scheduled for next Thursday, but I may bump it up if I keep shedding lbs. Weighed myself yesterday and was down to 160, so I had lost 4lbs in 4 days. But I'm finding diabetes dehydrates you and makes you piss all the time. Plus I just haven't been hungry because of the metformin, and have been eating less. Going to have to force myself to eat to maintain weight, and to drink a lot of water. I'm constantly very tired and occasionally light-headed so exercising has been a challenge. But I have been walk/running 3 miles a day this week. Wondering when I'm going to feel well enough to start doing some weight training to rebuild muscle mass. Anyway, this sucks a donkey's dick. Anyone else out there have experience with this?
  3. Any private school competing in the UIL cannot offer athletic scholarships. So the two Jesuit schools are not offering scholarships for lacrosse. Not sure about ESD and Greenhill.
  4. Abbott banned sausage because it turns kids gay.
  5. Excellent message board detective work. 10 internet points awarded to you sir. You've got him good!
  6. Signing off with "Oi" is fucking hilarious.
  7. Thank you forcefield. Even though the storm missed us, they cancelled all the games in my son's baseball league last night. With the storm that's predicted to come through on Sunday, I'm beginning to think the season won't end until mid-June.
  8. Baseball has entered the chat... Had the same reaction last night, but as long as the refs can be consistent, we would prefer the refs to let them play because the Thunder are such egregious floppers. And the refs didn't call nearly as many fouls on the Mavs on those ticky-tack fouls as they did in game 1. They still called quite a few, but it was a much more physical game which plays to our advantage because everyone except for Dort on the Thunder weighs like 165. Let them play.
  9. I'm assuming Toia never formally withdrew from the portal?

  11. also, incredible butthole surfers t shirt.
  12. I love Kevin Costner the actor. But Kevin Costner - writer, executive producer, and director - does not give me a lot of confidence. But I hope I'm wrong.
  13. When I lived in Chicago every Thursday they would have pretty good/popular musicians/bands play the amphitheater at the Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. In 2009 one of the bands scheduled to play one night couldn't make it for whatever reason. So someone thought it would be a good idea for Shellac to fill in. This was a popular event for many Chicagoans because shows were relatively early and outside in the amazing summer months. Younger families would attend regularly knowing nothing about the bands that were playing because it was a fun thing to do on a Thursday night. You could bring a blanket, snacks, beer and wine and chill. Shellac came out after the supporting band and opened with Prayer to God as loud as fucking possible. As soon as they got to the chorus of "Fucking Kill Him" there was a mass exodus of moms and strollers like watching ants headed back to the hive. It was hilarious and punk as fuck and I will never forget that moment. Steve Albini made and recorded some of my favorite albums ever. 61 is far too young. But that motherfucker burned bright during his time here. A life well-lived.
  14. Mountain lions ain't wandering neighborhoods at noon looking to pick-off dogs. Also, I'll definitely tackle a coyote to save my dog's life. I'm not so sure I'd be storming out like Leroy Jenkins to tackle a mountain lion.
  15. I understand there's not a lot to talk about, and it's easy to get off topic. But if we're gonna have a side-bar, can it be something funny or more interesting than "can you change your throwing motion"? You fucking imbeciles are killing me here.
  16. You're a fucking idiot. His knees are fucked. He had three days off and he had absolutely no lift, no ability to cut, no ability to drive. He's got like 40 hours to try to get better. I'm hoping for a miracle recovery, but it's not looking good if he looked like that after 3 days of rest. But I see all these dumb mf'ers like Navin R. Johnson questioning Luka's drive, competitiveness and conditioning. I'd love to see anyone play 40+ minutes of NBA playoff basketball, on a sprained knee, getting absolutely pummeled. He's not lazy. He just can't move.
  17. No doubt they're stacked. But they're stacked every year. And they always manage to trip over their own dicks. And that's usually with an elite QB. Now they're stacked with Will Howard.
  18. Tis the risk we all run when we sit down at the table of Shank and ask "how long are these leftovers good for?"
  19. Because of the importance and commodity of the position, I predict Quinn will go in the top-10. I don't know if he deserves to go that high. As we saw in the draft this year, if you think you can get a guy to be your QB for the next 10 years, you will do what you need to do to go up and get him, regardless of where he's slotted on the "big board". Quinn's either going to be in that top group of QBs that emerge after the end of the season and go top-10, or there will be serious questions about his mechanics, his deep ball, and his decision making and he'll go in the 2nd or 3rd round (don't see that happening). But I definitely don't see him being selected 15ish based on how QBs are selected in the draft.
