  1. I'd go to Habanero. Other good options are El Primo (but it's a food truck. no seating). Tacorrido (drive through). If you're looking for a fancier place with cocktails, you could check out El Alma. If you're with women, they'll love the place. I think it's pretty good but too expensive.
  2. One thing I don't see being discussed all that much is our giving Israel billions to bomb women and children and then get to see their mutilated corpses on the news and internet. I know quite a few progressives that either stayed home or voted third party because they just couldn't justify supporting candidates that fund genocide with our tax dollars. That's a war we should have been able to negotiate a diplomatic resolution too much, much sooner, and it (along with everything else being discussed in this thread) bit Harris in the ass.
  3. Oh, and another thing - pre-election polling data is worthless, especially when you have a candidate like Trump in the mix. People did not want to voluntarily admit that they were gonna vote for Trump. They know it's distasteful. And it skews the polls.
  4. A few thoughts. The Dems "Big Tent" gives them a broad and diverse voting base, but it's clear that loudly progressing the platform of every demographic within that base does not resonate with those outside the tent. I thought it was absurd that the only ads Ted Cruz ran were about trans bullshit and "men playing in women's sports". I thought, "there's no way people really give a shit about this, right?" But boy was I wrong. They polled prospective voters and those voters said "we're tired of this shit." They knew what they were doing, and it worked. Identity Politics is a losing game. The path forward to protect and expand the rights for marginalized groups will probably require first obtaining a political mandate by gaining the public's trust on handling the meat-and-potatoes issues that do resonate with the broader electorate, and then passing legislation enshrining those rights for marginalized groups, even if the general public isn't necessarily comfortable with it. Dems need to stick to the meat and potatoes issues that resonate with voters and tune out the social issues that give middle America the ick. Jobs, economy, diplomacy. It sucks, but it's true. My very real concerns about Trump's legislative and personal-retribution agenda are somewhat mitigated by the fact that he's too fucking lazy to do any real work, although spite is a great motivator. My concerns is who will be the person(s) setting and executing the legislative agenda. Donald Trump is not a fascist because of his political philosophy. Donald Trump has no philosophy. He's a political nihilist. (I mean, say what you will about the tenets of national socialism. At least it's an ethos) He will support anything that he believes is popular and will get people to vote for him. He's the very definition of a puppet. The question then becomes, who is he going to let put their hand up his ass and make him dance? But he is a fascist in the sense that he believes the presidency gives him absolute authority. And his stacking of the Supreme Court and their ruling that the executive office is immune to prosecution only reaffirms that belief. How motivated will be to go after his enemies, and what will that look like? I truly don't know. I'm also very nervous about diplomacy. This man is so unstable. It's terrifying that he could literally order a nuclear attack at any time. Also, hey Ukraine - you're fucked. You should probably start walking west if you live there. As a straight white man, I try to reflect upon, appreciate and understand the incredible privilege with which I've been blessed. My life wasn't dramatically impacted by the first Trump presidency. And if my daughter were to need access to exercise what I believe is her right to get an abortion, we have the means to facilitate that. But I do feel for marginalized groups that will be affected by those setting the legislative agenda. Buckle up buttercup. It's gonna be a terrible fucking ride. It'll be like when those people boarded an architectural boat tour in Chicago on August 8th 2004 only to have Dave Matthews Band's tour bus dump 800 pounds of human waste all over them as the bus passed over the Kinzie Street bridge.
  5. Mine went from a little less than an inch to 3.5 inches. No fucking chance
  6. Can’t take anything for granted, but Fong is just a mouthpiece for whatever Elko is wishcasting.
  7. Henry, Jimmy, and Tommy probably wouldn't have hung out with Maury. And I was sad that Spider got whacked. But that's about all I got.
  8. I'm still into it, but share many of the criticisms that have been levied in this thread. 1) How would the dead kid's mom know the details of the affair and that she was complicit in the death of her son. It doesn't make sense. They're gonna have to fill in the gaps here for the show to satisfactorily resolve. 2) It started strong but it's sputtering a bit here in the last episode and there are some inconsistencies that are hard to believe. For instance, Kevin Cline shows up at her office, provides copies of the book for the whole office to read, they read the book while Catherine is on her way into the office, and they all believed what was written in the book before they aggressively confront her when she shows up for work? Yeah, I'm not buying it. No time to read the book and she'd get the benefit of the doubt from all of these colleagues that supposedly admired her brilliance. 3) There aren't really any likeable characters. Even with Kevin Cline's character, I want to say "let it go, man. he's been dead for 20 years"
  9. I had a ton of people recommend Boondock Saints when it first came out. That movie is fucking terrible. It's one of the only movies I quit watching halfway through.
  10. The Gangster of Love is gonna play football at USC?
  11. x2 all of this. Considering he's an obvious redshirt candidate and won't, nor shouldn't, be expected to play early, it's all good.
  12. Sure. But it's one of those "people who live in glass doublewides shouldn't throw the first stone" situations.
  13. So I went down a Tom Petty hole and searched Tom Petty threads and came across this one. Seemed as good a time as any to watch one of my favorite performances ever. I think my favorite part of the video is at 4:58 when Prince gives TP a look like "I know that shit I already did was pretty cool, but wait till you see what's next, Tom" with an absolute shit-eating grin on his face. Anyway, I figure no one will complain about necro-bumping this thread and watching this.
  14. And he's got a tackle so he occasionally gets playing time as well. Which is wild...
  15. Haastrup is listed at 235. Mbatchou is listed at 280. Right now. Not the same physical profile. Not the same position. Apples. Oranges.
  16. Haastrup's an EDGE and Mbatchou's an interior DL. Apples to oranges.
  17. Does anyone have a good volunteering resource? I've had an absolute shit year. One year ago I did some stupid shit and got drunk and said some jealous petty bullshit to my life-long best friend, and now we no longer speak to each other. Totally my fault. I don't blame him for not speaking to me, but I am very sad that he won't accept my apology. The end of that friendship feels like a mini-death. Last April I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and that was a fairly significant disruption of my lifestyle. I've had to change how I eat, exercise, and generally live my life. It's actually required me to eat and live healthier, but it's still a degenerative disease that I will have to manage for the rest of my life. Then a month ago, after 13 years with the company, I got laid off. The company was purchased two years ago and after a constant reorg, they eliminated my position (along with another co-worker in our department). I worked in a very niche and highly-specialized industry, so there aren't a lot of jobs for which I'm readily-qualified. I'm probably looking at some sort of career change at 46, which is terrifying. Looking for a new job has been a soul crushing kick to the dick. I'm drinking too much. I need to reconcile the reasons that I drink too much and better understand the "why". My drinking has negatively impacted my life a few times (see best-friend above) and that cannot continue to happen. I am going to read the book cited above "this naked mind" and intentionally address my relationship with alcohol. It's time. This has all taken a heavy toll on my mental health, and subsequently my interpersonal relationships. My mother pulled me aside this weekend and said "what's going on with you? you're not well. I've never seen you this sad and angry." My wife has been distant. While all of this stuff has "happened" to me, it's also impacted her, and I need to be more empathetic of that, but it's difficult to do so when I've constantly been "woe is me"-ing for the last year. I go to a therapist but I'm finding that it's not particularly productive. I'm not one to go into therapy and fully unload in a way that's honest, transparent, and forthright. She's not picking up on the context clues I'm giving her, the conversation isn't organic, so we just kind of go in circles. I know I need to find a new therapist, but I keep going to this one for now because I know that I need accountability of self-reflection every other week. But my insurance runs out at the end of the month and with the money well drying up here shortly, I likely won't be able to afford a good one out-of-pocket. So anyway, with all this time I have, I think it's a good idea to do some volunteer work with people who are in need. My hope is that it will provide some perspective and allow me to focus more on the things in my life for which I should be grateful rather than obsessing on the negative things that have happened to me over the last year. So if anyone has a specific place they volunteer and recommend, please PM me. Or if you have a general resource that can provide a few options, let me know.
  18. Agree. But every year GMs talk themselves into drafting QBs in the top 10 despite tons of red flags and only about 40% of them historically shaking out (and I think that's a generous percentage, as the metrics I've seen used are "won a playoff game" or "made a pro bowl", neither of which are indicators of sustained success)
  19. Shut. The. Fuck. Up! Or take this dumb discussion here:
  20. It will be interesting if it comes down to Ewers and Milroe, a guy that was committed to Texas for like a year before we went after Ewers and he flipped to Bama. It almost feels like fate.
  21. My buddies from Chicago were in a band called Sybris in the 00's and they recently reunited to record a new album. First link is a new track. Second link is an old one.
