  2. Eater Austin predicts 19 restaurants will earn a star. https://austin.eater.com/2024/7/16/24199218/michelin-texas-austin-stars-predictions-2024 There are 21 restaurants in Chicago with a star, 24 in DC. I think expecting Austin to get 19 in year one, with a food scene that is much more homogenous and much less mature than dining in either Chicago and/or DC, is delusional. They're predicting 8 local sushi/omakase restaurants will earn a star. And while Michelin seems to over-reward Japanese/sushi restaurants, I think Austin Omakases will be universally dinged a bit due to inability to source the freshest fish in Austin. For example, Chicago has only 2 Japanese/Omakase restaurants that earned a star, and they're similarly-located in the Central US away from access to the freshest salt-water fish. But we'll see, I guess. I think the number of restaurants that earn starts will largely depend on how Michelin values modern barbecue restaurants. I could see anywhere from zero to five restaurants earn a star - Franklin, Interstellar, Leroy & Lewis, KG BBQ, and Distant Relatives (the last two because they may value the fusion of KG and the cultural/historical component of Distant Relatives' mission). I'd guess Franklin and Interstellar are most likely to earn a star. FWIW, Eater doesn't predict any bbq restaurant will earn a star...
  3. If he was born in '78, he would have been there from '95 or '96 through 1999/2000. So it's much, much worse.
  4. Oregon is being very mean to us and I'm very upset! Stop picking on us Oregon!
  5. It's Willie. It'll always be Willie.
  6. Thirteen might be a top-10 all time song for me. It's fucking perfection.
  7. Sincerely appreciate that you synthesize the key points of these verbose updates. Thank you for that.
  8. So good. Can't wait for the new season in September. They're the anti Severance: Season 1 - April '22 Season 2 - December '22 Season 3 - November '23 Season 4 - September '24
  9. Sooooo, uhhhhh, what did I miss that I should be irrationally angry about?
  10. Have 4 WRs drafted in the first round in the last three years. Have 10 players drafted in the first round in the last 5 years. Win an average of 11 games a year over like a 20 year span.
  11. Looks like Bill and Ted's but not good. Although Taika and Jemaine's involvement is intriguing.
  12. I mean, I'm gonna watch it. I didn't think the new Top Gun was gonna be good, but it was. So maybe this will be good too? But, I'm not too optimistic.
  13. apparently everyone in King's Landing goes to bed at sundown and no one can see anything at night.
  14. 1) He seemed to always want to go out of state and was never really interested in us. 2) North Shore. 3) EXCLAMATION POINTS!!
  15. Finished this season last night. Some observations. Also, I'm not going to spoiler this shit because you shouldn't be reading this thread if you haven't already finished the season: S3 was weaker than the previous two seasons, but I still think this is one of the best shows on TV right now. Some of my feelings are somewhat contradictory. I don't necessarily mind that they take a lot of time to develop the characters, and I thought Tina's backstory episode was one of the best ones of the season. Unlike many others, I really liked Ice Chips. HOWEVER, I am a little frustrated that we're seemingly in pretty much the same spot we're in at the start of the season. I have no idea how much time has elapsed since "friends and family" at the close of S2. Two weeks? Two months? Six months? Obviously long enough for some of the local online publications to perform reviews that we didn't get to "read" but they only flashed to in the final two episodes to let us know that opinions are mixed and that the food can be brilliant at times and sloppy and unfocused at other times. We spent 40% of the season on backstories/character development - the premier (which was beautifully shot and I really enjoyed, but as Sepinwall pointed out, we already know Carmy's backstory), Ice Chips, Tina's story, and Funeral. There's a lot of stuff in this show that just doesn't make sense. How is Syd being recruited to be (what I assume will be) CDC or sous at a place that will be helmed by the CDC at a place like Ever? What's her previous experience? Running a catering business out of her apartment? She doesn't have the bona fides to be recruited to that position. I like Syd's character and think the actress does a great job, but they haven't really fleshed out her story or given her character the opportunity to demonstrate the regard we're led to believe her contemporaries hold of her. The show runners are really doing her character a disservice. I expect her to get a similar episode that they gave to Marcus in Season 2 and Tina in Season 3, and that she'll be more assertive in S4. Ritchie was at Ever for 4 days, and he made such an amazing impression on everyone that he was offered to run table service for the final meal, much less even be INVITED to the funeral dinner and get shout-outs by everyone on the staff like he's MVP? I could suspend disbelief during the initial episode because it advanced the plot. But this was fucking ridiculous. Claire adds nothing to the show. They've unnecessarily shoehorned a love story to further push the narrative that Carmy is a closed-off, emotionally-damaged genius. We don't need that. You've established that through things we already know about him - Mikey's suicide, the 7 fishes episode, the Joel McHale story, etc. Claire's character is a waste of time on a show that already wastes a lot of time. Unpopular opinion - there was too much Faks in this season. They took a hilarious bit and just whacked the audience over the head with their comedic relief over and over this season. I actually liked when it was just Matty Matheson as the one Fak (him stalling with the electrician while talking about his favorite Replacements records was a highlight of the series for me, so far). I guess they have to find a way to justify this series being nominated in the "Comedy" category at the Emmys. John Cena as the third Fak didn't work either. And I fucking love John Cena (who doesn't? also, speaking of Cena, when are we gonna get another season of Peacemaker?) Smoking in the restaurant right before the Tribune photographer shows up? I get that they're trying to demonstrate this isn't the tightest-run ship, but why send Ritchie to the "Ever School of Perfection" to have him overlook how monumentally stupid that was. That really annoyed me. I'm not going to dwell too much on the criticisms above if Season 4 will be released before the end of the year, as I understand they filmed S3 an S4 back-to-back. This might be like a mid-season all-star break with an opportunity to really progress the plot later this year.
  16. Wandavision is near the top of anything Marvel's done in the last 5 years. It's definitely the best Marvel tv show they've done through Disney+. I'll definitely be tuning in, but it looks to be more of a straight-forward "witch" story instead of the complicated psychological trauma/50's-sitcom parody that they did in Wandavision, which is kind of what made the original show so great in the first place.
  17. This is one of the dumber arguments I’ve seen in a board that has about a dozen dumb arguments every day. Jesus Christ on a cracker
  18. Care to specify or just bleed from your vagina? It’s a WR who got money whipped by Phil Knight’s billions of dollars and a DT that committed to us months ago before he ever visited campus and to a position coach that is no longer with the team. To be clear, I’m very fucking frustrated too but I’m not gonna completely freak the fuck out just yet
  19. The tweet might have been photoshopped. It’s not on Thamel’s timeline and it’s dated tomorrow. Not saying he’s gonna choose us. But the tweet appears to be bullshit.
  20. I’m shocked that a top-5 overall one-time decommit WR recruit is a drama queen and attention whore.
  21. Multiple posters on this board regularly talk about getting erections from recruit commitments. One of the most popular memes on this site is the recruiting enchubben-meter with penises in various stages of erection. Casting stones in glass houses and all that....
  22. Well, LSU still doesn't have an inside DL committed in their class. So......
