  1. Crazy thing is the left isn't worn down quite as badly, but it hurts worse than the right. I'm thinking I have a torn rotator but he said he won't do an MRI because even if it is torn he couldn't fix it because it needs to be replaced. Like an idiot, I was hurrying down the attic ladder and missed a step and reached back across the opening to keep myself from falling on my face. I tore my pec and pretty sure the rotator as well. Never been in such pain in my life. That was about 6 years ago when the pain was first starting and also when I found out I had arthritis. When that happened he told me I would have to replace them in about 20 years. Roll forward 6 years the pain gets worse, I go back in and he's amazed at how the arthritis has progressed and tells me it could be done at any time, but try an wait until the pain is unbearable. The xrays he took a few months ago were much more detailed than 6 years ago, so im not sure if the bone deterioration is that much worse or the new shots taken at all angles showed more. My Dr is John Seaberg, he was at KSF orthopedics before moving over to Methodist. I've nothing heard but great things about him and know several people that's had joint replacement and other surgeries by him. I guess it doesn't hurt to get a second opinion. Damn, just looked at his bio again, he's a gooner.
  2. Man, I'm sorry to here that. At what stage did you decide to have it done? It sounds crazy, but doing light reps on certain exercises at the gym is less painful than putting on a shirt, whether it's button down or pull over, putting on deodorant, and even turning a steering wheel. I guess working out is more of a controlled moment so I know what I can do without too much pain. About half the time my wife has to help me get my shirt on, but on the bright side she doesn't like the old missionary position anymore because my shoulders crunch in her ear. At this point are you wishing you didn't do it? I guess I definitely won't get both done the same year, it's not worth saving $4,500 If there's a good chance I'll have issues. I hope it gets better, I feel for you.
  3. The resistance bands are what I used in therapy and still use them now and then. When I say l still lift, it's never more than 15 pound dumbbells and my elbow never gets anywhere near shoulder high. It's mostly curls, tricep pull downs, and seated rows, lots of reps. Anything I can keep my arms in tight to my sides I'm ok, even the stretching motion of the rows isn't bad as long as I keep it light. Reaching back, overhead, or out with nothing in my hands is always painful, as is laying on my sides which is the only way I can sleep very well so I'm constantly waking up. As far as swimming goes, there's no way I could freestyle, breaststroke, or backstroke, there's way too much motion. My shoulders crack, pop, and grind with any rotation of the joint. The therapist put it best, he said my shoulders sound like they're full of rice crispies. I'm going to snap a pic of my xrays next time I go in and post them, it's pretty fucked up looking.
  4. He gave me cortisone injections in both shoulders and sent me to PT. After a few weeks I went back in for my follow-up visit and pretty much the first words out of his mouth were "it didn't help much did it". He kept saying I don't want to scare you, but..... you have the shoulders of an old NFL veteran o-lineman. It sounds vain, and believe me I'm no gym rat, but not being able to stay in shape after the surgery is what scares me the most. Well that and paying for the next set out of my pocket. At least right now I can do certain exercises with very light weight and limited shoulder movement, I'm afraid that will come to an end after replacement. He said I can't do much more damage so I guess I'll keep doing what I'm doing until I can't. Luckily I have a great crew that works for me so my income isn't affected. I guess it's time to give them a hefty raise to keep them around.
  5. Overuse from my early 20s to late 40s, lots of overhead work. Any simple movement can be very painful, but I'm able to do limited movements with very light weight in the gym. It's been a learning curve over the last 6 years. It's the everyday functions that seem to hurt the most, reaching for something, standing with my arms crossed then putting my arms down, and probably the worst is sleeping. Half of the ball on my right humorus is worn down, its completely flat on one side.
  6. I need both shoulders replaced at the ripe old age of 52. Doctor told me shoulder replacements are basicly shit right now and if I stay active I'll need to replace them again in just a few years. Problem is my insurance probably wouldn't pay for it again. I'm just hoping my ortho doctor is being a little overly cautious. New model just came out, but he doesn't recommend being a guinea pig. Question is, has anyone had a shoulder replaced, and what are your limitations? I'd also like to have both replaced in the same calender year so I only pay the deductible once. From what I hear this guy is supposed to be one of the best. He works at Methodist in Houston and is one of the doctors in the group that takes care of the Texans and Astros. I'd like to still be able to hit the gym with some light weights, anyone tried it? I don't know anyone that's roughly my age that's had it done, the people I know that's had it done are older and not very active. Basicly I feel like I'm screwed either way. The pain is unbearable sometimes, but I can see myself deteriorating quickly if I have the surgeries.
  7. What were they doing in the valley?
  8. I don't know why they guaranteed coach O. a fucking penny. He seemed desperate for the head job and probably would have gladly taken it on a year to year basis. I think his ego is as big as his belly. It's not like schools would be kicking his door in to offer him a better job. Possibly outside a few other secsecsec schools, what other big time schools would take him as the head man?
  9. Tip everybody, even if it's just a few bucks, it's always appreciated. I always take $100 in ones for the bartenders, housekeepers, and buffet staff. An extra $3 or $4 a day to the housekeepers typically keeps your fridge full of drinks. I know if doesn't sound like much, but if everyone tipped just $20 a day, it would make a huge difference in their lives. Those people work their asses off for I'm guessing $8 or so a day. I don't think I've seen more than a handful of euros or South Americans ever tip and it pisses me off. I gave the front desk girl a $20 when I checked in and got a room overlooking the pool and the beach. 2nd best $20 I've ever spent.
  10. No kidding. I've been there about 15 times and I prefer a resort to a condo, no need for any kind of detector at a resort. Just a little tip to anyone who may be going to PDC. Check airfare to Cozumel as well as Cancun. 2 years ago I flew into Cozumel $95 per person cheaper, took a $5 cab ride to the ferry, and another $5 cab to the resort. It sounds like a pain in the ass, but I was at my hotel in a little over an hour. I flew into Cancun this February, spent an hour waiting for my shuttle, then it took another hour to get to my hotel, not to mention the extra 30 minutes it takes to get your bags and through customs in Cancun compared to Cozumel. I was sitting on the beach about half a mile away from the ferry explosion. I thought a propane tank blew up until the mother-in-law texted my wife to make sure we weren't on the ferry. Nonetheless, I would head back down in a heartbeat. I feel safer in PDC than I do most places in Houston.
  11. I just upgraded from Billy to Juan. Worth every penny.
  12. These guys need to be reminded of Urbans "bad heart". He's due another episode and retirement about now.
  13. Had breakfast in Honolulu almost 30 years ago across from Roger Mosley, aka TC from Magnum PI. Pretty chill dude. Took a pic with him then noticed about 3 hours later the film in my 35mm camera wasn't loaded correctly. I know, csb.
  14. A chick that pulls it out of her mouth at the last second and finishes it off with her hand. I guess that's not trivial, but it sure as hell is annoying.
  15. I have an aggy and a bamer neighbor, they both live in their garages year round. No idea what they're drinking, but beer is a good guess. I've seen their wives, so I guess I would hang out in the garage too if I was them.
  16. Can't watch that shit. My palms and feet starting sweating within 15 seconds.
  17. One more bad year and I'm jumping off that precipice and onto a hoe.
