    Getting old sucks

There’s an entire subset of our society that make too much for Medicare, but not enough for insurance. I had Radiofrequency Ablations done in a few visits over the last 8 weeks (getting old sucks) and my copay has been under 200 bucks total, looking over some insurance stuff this afternoon and I see the doctor’s office has billed insurance around $14,500 for the procedure so far with a few follow up’s scheduled. I guess all those folks just either do without or incur crippling debt if they can find someone willing to do treatments without paying up front.
  3. If you’re 6 and also have the 10 million to invest in all the companies you know are going to be huge is one thing. Trying to talk your dad into investing in Apple, etc. when you’re 9 is something completely different. Trying to break into investing with your allowance and lawn mowing money as a pre teen is just going to make you miserable knowing the opportunities are out there but you’re too young and broke to participate.
  4. After the long opening weekend of summer and driving the beach on the golf cart pretty much non stop for 3 days straight I have to say the number of big, completely out of shape XXL+ size girls in small bikinis who obviously DGAF about how they look is simultaneously disappointing and inspiring. No pics, and you’re welcome.
  5. Went to a beach wedding this evening for the guy that mosquito sprays my yard and his ex con girlfriend. (Some people move to the beach and others just seem to wash up here) Out of the 60 or so men in attendance I’d say 55 of them were wearing cheap short sleeved button up fishing shirts with either Crocs or sandals of some type. It’s the go to uniform for events where you’re expected to wear something fancier than a t shirt. Mine was light grey!
  6. Until she died I’d never heard Tina Turner referred to as the queen of rock and roll, now they say it every time they mention her name. I don’t even know if much of her music could even be called rock and roll.
  7. Instead of going through all that just have the hired guy stomp on it. Rules say you can’t, didn’t specify anything about a designated booter!
  8. It’s got dang amazing how many people don’t understand Memorial Day. My Facebook feed is full of people telling their very much alive friends and relatives thank you for your service, or people talking about remembering their dead grandparents or whatever.
  9. Put the fucking snail in a jar with a lid and get to investing that casharino. We’re not fighting chimps here!
  10. Old school had this covered. I remember Peperage Farms and intermission
  11. Possible trigger warning then. New Trump flags and confederate flags are pretty similar, both promoting the resurrection of the lost cause.
  12. Used to be you’d use a flag to make it easier find your spot on a crowded beach. Now everyone has at least one and too many are identical so it’s defeated that purpose. Still see a few confederate or pirate flags, maybe a beer flag, but the majority are Trump related with a few Texas and American flags mixed in. From what I can tell the Trump flag guys are pretty much the confederate flag guys with an extra 20 bucks to spend.
  13. Got dang America loving heroes, every single one of them flexing their freedom muscles!! Just came back from a beach ride a couple of minutes ago and you’re correct, Trump 2024/FJB flags are absolutely everywhere and a couple people set up to sell them! No CR, but I wonder why I’ve never seen a Biden flag? Surely they make them!
  14. Why’d you answer the phone?
  15. I worked as a basic EMT up to Paramedic in college, and while this was a bunch of decades ago and EMT’s now do what only paramedics could do then, getting your basic EMT training should be a piece of cake if your kid is med school bound or even of normal intelligence. As I said many volunteer FD’s provide free training, but $1500 seems a little steep but not crazy high. IIRC my basic NR EMT training was a full semester or close to it. I’d be very leery of some 2-3 week class, but if there’s a service that will hire you after that, what do I know? After the very basics you learn mostly from experience. And yes, in the years I did it I saw shit that there’s no way to ever unsee, it’s not for everyone and incredibly hard on your back!
  16. Calhoun County. Not sure what a GPC is but she’s been told she’s going to 6th grade. They don’t even know if she’s failed the math portion of STAAR yet, but her mom was told she didn’t do well and would probably fail but they won’t have the actual results until August. Either way she could benefit from the summer school. The issue is the remaining tutoring they say she’ll need if she’s failed the test as summer school will only be half the required hours. Can we hire an accredited tutor or teacher and knock out whatever she needs before school begins so she doesn’t miss out on her electives? Or does it have to be a district employee and done on school time? Sorry if I’ve explained it poorly.
  17. A lot of volunteer fire departments offer free EMT training.
  18. Little friend and classmate of my kid will be traveling out of state with us on an extended vacation this summer. Today was 5th grade graduation and we were all out eating lunch when her mom got a call from her teacher that she was expected to fail the Math portion of STAAR. (Why TF is Texas still doing this bullshit?) Anyway the kid will need to do the 3 weeks of summer school, but apparently that’s only half the hours of tutoring necessary to fulfill the requirements of a new law. Poor kid doesn’t have a pot to piss in, literally lives in a 1960’s single wide with no siding on one side of it and no running water half the time. Abject poverty! She’s never been on any kind of a vacation and has been looking forward to this trip for months, it’s all she talks about. She’s going to be passed through to the 6th grade, but will have to give up her electives until this is taken care of, including beginner band camp towards the end of summer. My question is, can I hire some type of accredited tutor to get her the needed hours she needs or is it something that has to be done through the school? The teacher says no, but she’s a proven dumbass and the worst excuse for a teacher I’ve seen. She’s a fantastic kid whose been dealt a shit hand her entire life, and I’d just like to help her transition to 6th grade be a smooth one if I’m able.
  19. I’m just envious of whoever could bend down long enough to draw all that. I’ll be in the getting old sucks thread.
  20. World’s most popular accents. Prolly should be named celebrities I’ve heard with accents. I’m calling BS on this list with Penelope Cruz and Sophia Vergara so high on the list. Beautiful women, but living with those accents 24/7 for any length of time would have you looking for a short rope and a tall branch! First American is Matthew pretty far down the list. https://word.tips/worlds-favorite-accents/
