  1. Edit: Never mind, I guess movies about step-sons and step-brothers finding their step-moms and step-sisters stuck in various household appliances does not fall under the category of "romantic movies" So I'll toss in Palm Springs as a recent one that was decent.
  2. AISD posted this at 6pm: Based on the current forecast, we do not anticipate any changes to our normal school schedule tomorrow. Road conditions are expected to be dry; however, temperatures will be quite cold in the morning. We will leave campus HVAC systems running overnight to ensure comfortable temperatures for students upon arrival.
  3. Leon and his band of incels are the dumbest fucking people in Washington D.C. And that's saying something.
  4. https://www.wcvb.com/article/jfk-library-boston-closed-trump-executive-order/63832670 Narrator: Musk is going to work to lay off more employees and close it down because they dared speak out against him.
  5. Park land/protected areas have been a problem along the Texas Coast for him in the past.
  6. Absolutely. When they talk about some agency or group of workers being fired as part of a “broader purge”, it’s DOGE trying to help Leon’s companies while hiding behind a “look we are trying to fire everybody, it’s just a coincidence that we are hitting groups directly impacting Dear Leader’s companies.” It’s not about government waste, just about all of Leon’s companies had problems that are now going to go away - Tesla, Neuralink, Boring, SpaceX, xAI/Twitter, etc.
  7. Sega Dreamcast getting cloud support and saves https://www.retroshell.com/2025/02/18/sega-dreamcast-receives-cloud-save-support-in-2025/
  8. Damn nice update. You can now restrict replies to your posts to followers only! A new settings page now exists to set default "Who can reply" settings on all future posts Improvements to the search page interface Added a new "Search posts by user" tool to profiles When reporting DM conversations, you will now be prompted to block the offending user and delete the conversation
  9. Using Signal, but not twitter. You'd have to be really fucking stupid at this point to be a federal employee and trying to communicate through twitter.
  10. I've been playing around on Atlantic with the free version on a new account just showing my kid some stuff (I'm nervous about re-activating one of my main accounts), and when I roll into a vendor mall in Malas or near the Yew Gate or wherever, and I see vendors selling lots of stuff for 175 million gold... And I had 3 different people, when they found out I was looking at coming back for a bit, just hand me a few million in gold to help me out. Strangers. I mean, a few million gold does not go very far at all, but it was very generous, and one outfitted me with some armor and weapons, rulebooks, etc. I was also told that if I transferred all of my rewards and old stuff over to Atlantic, I could easily be rolling in half a billion or far more in gold easily (well, translated to platinum because the bank can't go that high in gold). A whole lot of stuff from the 90s and early 2000s is worth an insane amount these days. I can remember when $10 would get you a million gold, now $10 will get you 50 million in gold. But it makes me wonder how the hell a truly new player could get started. Atlantic is the busiest, with I think Pacific and Catskills trailing, and everybody else outside of the Japanese shards doing a lot less. And it's quite clear that a shitload of people are playing on unofficial clients - people even joke about it in game, and I watched a few PVP events and it's clear that...I won't say they are scripting hard, but...some of them are. I could not PVP in this day and age. They did add official support on the official shards for a 3rd-party web-based client (you still need to have an original install on your computer for the data files) - https://classicuo.org For those wanting to play unofficial shards, Outlands is probably your best bet.
  11. There's been this weird buzz lately. Not sure if something is going on. Bonnie/Mesanna has stepped down as producer after over a dozen years of running the show, and the lead designer (one of only two designers) is now the producer as well, and he was best suited to take over. I wouldn't read much into that - she's taken a reduced role (head of GMs/customer support), but it's clear she's basically retiring (she's of the age to). The buzz seems to be some YouTubers have generated some interest, and there appears to be some older sites in the process of making a comeback (they never went away, just weren't being updated since the 2010s). But at the same time, the dev team is small as hell, with only one programmer, two artists, and a designer and designer/producer. At least publicly they are, based on the credits from the last few expansions. It took them 4-5 years to get this up and running, it's the first new official shard in almost 20 years, and it's focused on roleplaying, with "seasons" or whatever. https://uo.com/ultima-online-new-legacy/ It's not been much of a hit with longtime bank sitters players from what I can tell, and I have no idea if it's bringing people back, but overall there is definitely a buzz that hasn't been around in a while. Could be just something temporarily ginned up by some positive YouTube coverage. Meanwhile some of the free shards are more popular than ever. Nothing major on the horizon, at least not until the summer when they are teasing an major event that could boot out King Blackthorn (which be interesting if they brought back Lord British): https://uo.com/2025/01/21/2025-roadmap-update/
  12. Thunderbolts will be fine. F4 will be on a scale we haven't seen in a while. It's directed by a guy who produced and directed WandaVision and has directed episodes of The Great, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Fargo and Game of Thrones. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - that's all I have to say.
  13. The good news is that Ukraine is not Czechoslovakia of 1938. And the Soviets needed the Ukrainians to drive their war machine, and Putin's troops are not even the best army in Kursk. Still shitty though.
  14. Start of the RCU?
  15. Oligarchs gonna oligarch.
  16. @BoomMF have you heard of this company? https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gametheorytables/game-theory-tables-crafted-for-connections-2025
  17. Not if you’re a 12 year-old in the ‘80s who just watched Damnation Alley on KHTV 39.
  18. Creative Accounting. Also marketing. Wiki says it cost $180 million to make, so anywhere from $100 million to $200+ million to market. Even $100 million movies run from $50 million to $150 million to market. And Disney mostly doesn’t have the benefit of 3rd party streaming services and cable channels throwing money at them for the rights, since it will be mostly on Disney+ (there are deals in other countries for other services, but in the US and some other markets it’s a D+ exclusive).
  19. Ukraine should offer some dirt on Hunter Biden and then Trump will back off.
  20. We are in a bad situation. While there is some waste in our military, we have a big military because we are The Superpower. Our businesses buy and sell good globally, and our businesses thrive globally because we mostly keep the world fairly stable (or at least our trading partners) and we keep the sea lanes open, all of which applies to the UK for arguably a few centuries. We are in a bad situation because we have people who are running the show who do not understand why we have a big military, and some want to bring much of it back home and shrink it. If that happens, we turn into the UK post-WWII. Ironically, China building up their military is making the case for us to keep a strong military that can project power, such that not even the powers that be can ignore that.
  21. The farmers. I have relatives who farm in Oklahoma and Arkansas who thought Musk was on their side last year, and you can tell that it’s finally sinking in that they could be fucked by what Leon is trying to do, and with the tariffs that will probably happen. Friends who farm in Texas, who were opposed to Musk getting anywhere near D.C. have been preparing since it was clear that tariffs would happen, and the USAID fuckery kicked their plans into high gear. We tend to picture farmers as being insular good ole boys, but they use the internet, follow various sites, are emailing each other on mailing lists, are talking to their Congressional reps (and apparently being ignored, at least in Oklahoma) and more importantly, they are talking to the co-ops and companies who are buying from them, and talking to the companies they buy from (fertilizer, equipment, etc.) as well as their banks and everything else farmers deal with. My friends in Texas didn’t vote for Musk and are assuming the worst and trying to line up deals and purchases much earlier than they normally would. Some of them sell within the state (thanks HEB!) or are lining up buyers that may not be as good, but don’t cross the Mexican border. My family in Oklahoma and Arkansas did vote for Musk and they believe they have a slight chance at getting exemptions with the tariffs and USAID (they don’t) but you can tell they are concerned. What my relatives don’t understand is that Musk does not see USAID as a decent org that helps take agricultural surplus off the market and keep a lot of farms afloat (which is actually a matter of national security). He simply sees it as an org that is investigating one of his companies and he wants it destroyed. He has never farmed and doesn’t understand how many farms could go under. Musk not only doesn’t understand it’s a localized natural security issue (keeping American farms going and growing) but he doesn’t see how many countries are helped out by us sending food overseas as well as what would happen if the tariffs kick in. If we limit cheap American food going elsewhere, besides hurting American farmers, other countries might step in to cover the more profitable areas. We also increase the chances of refugees from those countries heading north. And keeping those countries nominally stable keeps them open for American investments and influence (versus Russian or Chinese or Indian investments). TLDR: Musk will happily drive a lot of American farms under if he can help out his companies.
  22. In all fairness, I didn’t get any Java in my COBOL coursework
  23. Doing well at the box office, over $190 million globally. I’m kind of surprised. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/captain-america-brave-new-world-box-office-opening-1236138148/
