  1. I've seen Waymo cars a lot driving through my area, basically every day, and none of them have acted weird/dangerous. I can't wait to see what happens when Leon unleashes Teslas. If it's anything like his robots, he'll probably have humans driving them remotely.
  2. Temu and Alibaba too much of a threat? It's weird how many people I know have bought from Temu, that are not "savvy" in terms of online....well anything, not just retail.
  3. And I'm sure that Leon would never roll a half-assed system out in beta testing just because a bunch of people didn't want him to do it or told him that he couldn't do it.
  4. The incels have their moms' credit cards.
  5. That's the shitty thing for the pilots - they were only doing this because of the VIP service the Army provides, so the pilots and Army will be blamed, whether right or wrong, and that narrative has already been pushed out to the media. One of two things will happen: They will temporarily suspend these flights, and then quietly resume them, because the VIPs they ferry are not going to be inconvenienced by limo rides. The Army will completely stop doing these VIP flights in the D.C. area (POTUS rides a Marine Corps helicopter). My money is on #1.
  6. Shit, it really is happening. https://www.kxan.com/traffic/transportation/tesla-to-launch-self-driving-paid-service-in-austin-this-year/ Is Tesla really going to do this with cameras only?
  7. I have thoughts about moving to New England, and my wife accidentally saw next weeks forecast for Vermont, and…
  8. Read the last page or two of the BlueSky thread. The kids aren’t joining message boards, or if they do it’s fucking Reddit.
  9. There are in fact people who seem to be hardwired for conspiracy theories, and social media has made it easier for them to connect with others who reinforce their beliefs, and to also read batshit conspiracy theories. In the past, the village idiots were confined to their villages and the other villagers kept them in check. Now they have a firehose of bullshit hitting them in the face, while at the same time wielding their own firehouses of bullshit. For a lot of them, it makes their lives interesting and exciting when they think they have inside knowledge that most people don’t, like they are in a Hollywood movie.
  10. Thank you for reminding me of Victoria Principal.
  11. Tell people that a plane crash is not good?
  12. I've known a woman named "Gage" but never "Gauge".
  13. Not when I’m taking my kids to school.
  14. Now this is fucking news. It's old news, but it's fucking news. Literally news about somebody fucking somebody. And still probably would, even if 9 kids have traveled that canal.
  15. Could be, although all of those controllers at the various airports/bases do talk to one another when traffic is handed off. Those helicopters are not just up and flying whatever flight plans they please. Yeah, definitely going to be something, but I don't know how much he or she really does - this will be left up to the FAA, National Transportation Safety Board, the Aviation Security Advisory Committee, the manufacturers of both aircraft, and the Department of Defense. The Coast Guard will probably be involved since it's water and given the location. Holy fuck, nightmare material.
  16. It's been accelerating the past week. I'm picking up followers for a history account I have setup (not competing with Traces of Texas) and the amount of followers is picking up and I'm not even trying. Give me editing and I'll be 100% happy.
  17. Holy shit, somebody has compiled a list of videos of Russians offing themselves, and they have found 195 so far (and admit they are missing plenty) Reddit - Dive into anything
  18. More people should wear helmets. You could assassinate a lot of baseball coaches, particular 3rd base coaches, during the game in front of a crowd with a line drive to the head, and nobody could prove you did it on purpose.
  19. No, not everybody has stopped using it, it will take time, but Musk won’t stop being a shitty person, and as more and more organizations and institutions leave, it will reach a point where still being on it will associate you with Musk. Between Twitter being a welcoming place for Nazis and Facebook fucking up peoples feeds and the atmosphere and their AI-caused bannings driving loyal users away, there will be plenty of money/resources for upstarts to flourish. GeoCities and MySpace didn’t die overnight, and MySpace had a 6 month start on Facebook (and arguably more momentum at the start for not being limited in its audience). Digg didn’t die overnight either when Reddit started up. In fact both Digg and MySpace are still around. Musk’s vanity and Temu drop shippers will keep the Twitter severs online for the foreseeable future, but many people and companies will go to the alternatives, and they are. Musk doesn’t care about driving many people away from Twitter and making it an echo chamber - he’s willing to throw money at it, and it feeds his ego, but there’s the benefit that as he drives users away, it’ll be cheaper to operate. Zuckerberg is the one who fucked himself over in the long term so he could make short term gains. Zuckerberg moving to AI moderation for FB and automatically banning long-time users over innocent crap that a human would have realized was not violating the rules, and with no way for many of them to get their accounts back, and with his deliberately crippling Threads to constantly drive its users to Instagram, is going to be the more interesting case. He doesn’t have the US taxpayer propping up his space and car companies so that he’s got an ATM machine to keep the lights on. It’s actually beautiful that Zuck’s AI moderation is wrecking so many accounts of longtime FB users who had done nothing wrong. It’s fitting. And the Zuckerberg of the old days would have bent over backwards to make Threads a clone of Twitter in order to wreck Twitter when Musk is basically driving millions of users away and making companies look for alternatives. Zuckerberg of 2025 is protecting Instagram while trying to peel off a few Twitter users.
  20. You could not download superconducting material in a few minutes, watch a short YouTube tutorial and then start testing it on your own. But this thing, you can absolutely download it and watch the eventual YouTube videos that will show non-techies how to do it, and test it yourself. And because it’s open source, highly technical people can not only test it, but pour over the code and see how it works. Which they are doing as we speak. China had a lot of problems and is backwards in many ways, but they most likely manufacture the computer you are posting on Surly with, and the chips and circuit boards in your TV and cars and almost all of the networking equipment we all rely on. They have a shitload of students and H-1B workers here in the US working on the latest annd greatest and many go back to China with that knowledge. They aren’t peasants in rice paddies.
  21. But I was told on good authority that Chinese and Iranian drones would obviously have FAA-mandated running navigation lights on them, showing us where they were at!
  22. “Dude turned into a SAM and tried to take out the drone”
  23. The people who aren’t were probably not going to show up in the theaters to watch it anyways, because reasons.
