Spoiler This is absolutely the right call. Biden’s performance obviously generated the headlines, but it was equally obvious that the muted mics were a huge gift to Trump.
I've previously written about a Jewish relative who had always been a reliable Democratic Party voter, but had declared that she would not be voting for any Democrats this cycle due to her perception that they were not supportive of enough of Israel. She reiterated this to me again after some of the protests outside the DNC gained publicity earlier in the week.
She texted me this morning that Kamala's speech earned her vote.
I've heard "I don't like Trump but I will vote for whoever will lower my taxes and let me keep my guns" more times that I can count.
And pointing out that they don't make enough to be affected by the Trump tax cuts or that Democrats aren't coming for your guns makes no impact. This is sports masquerading as politics to many of these people, and they just feel a need to concoct a reason for their devoted fandom.
“Maybe we shouldn’t give the people who have repeatedly caused disruptions to our presidential candidate’s rallies and called her complicit to genocide unfettered access to a microphone and a national audience” is a line of thinking that most people understand. Their cause is certainly noble but they have absolutely no reason to expect a speaking slot after their actions towards Democrats over the past few months.
People who do this are overwhelmingly Republican, and vibes were REALLY bad in that side of the world for the past few weeks. Nothing has really changed, other than humans tend to find ways to rationalize away bad news when exposed to it for long enough.
I do think you might be on to something here. Too many people (by Bibi’s design) view Israel and Bibi as one in the same. If the US can deftly communicate a “we are trying to help Israel, but one man is standing in the way” then that could greatly shift the narrative, both here and abroad, positively towards resolution.
The case could be made that Trump is now unequivocally a national and global security threat and the SCOTUS has already written that Biden would be well within his legal rights to take care of threats...
Joey is an extremely obvious troll that has realized he gets engagement by acting like a douche. The bigger issue is the fact that there was a legitimate audience for that shit.
