  1. They ran the same story everyone else did: a retroactive account strictly from Payton’s point of view. Maybe I’m jaded, but I, personally, find it hard to believe that in the year 2022, a transgender high school student could go around partially paralyzing blonde high school athletes in a county that Trump won by 40 points and there be absolutely zero public discussion for over 7 months. Edited to add: my response is veering towards attacking the victim, which is not my intent at all. I’m merely attempting to point out how there’s a lot about this story that seems like it warrants further investigation, yet instead it is being used as yet another irrefutable data point to inflame the culture war.
  2. Murphy is a town in western, ruby red NC with a population of 1600. It doesn’t strike you as odd that a girl on the high school volleyball team was knocked unconscious during a game by a transgender individual, suffered a brain bleed and partial paralysis… and nobody talked about it? There was no local news coverage? No angry viral Facebook posts about this transgender menace running amok in small town high school volleyball games? And why does the video stop right after the hit? Is there no footage of her lying unconscious on the ground? No footage of her body contorting into a “fencing position” (her words)? Surely that would be compelling footage for anyone supporting the cause. I’m not saying she’s a liar. I’m saying there’s absolutely no desire to look into this stuff because it scratches that “feels true” itch that so many seem to desire with this issue. I understand the safety concerns. Logically they make sense. But shouldn’t it say something that your only cited example of danger is a lightly sourced, 7 second video of a spike that resembles something you would likely see if you walked into any high school gym in Houston this weekend?
  3. 1) Her social media (which was not created until after she graduated high school) reads like a stereotypical right wing personality. Not discrediting in and of itself, but certainly notable. 2) The only evidence of this is a 7 second clip where a tall player spikes the ball into Payton's face. As far as I can find, the opposing player has never been named and this entire story is basically contained to right wing news publications and purely based on word of mouth from Payton. 3) Her injuries were so severe that she was playing basketball, and posting highlights to hudl, within two months: https://www.hudl.com/profile/18432580/Payton-McNabb/highlights Again, there is a severe lack of curiosity with any of this. It's just pure rage bait, through and through.
  4. 1) ideally Hader wouldn’t have been used yesterday so he’d be more rested and unfamiliar to Detroit 2) Given that 3 of the first 4 batters in the 8th were scheduled to be lefties, not to mention it’s the top of their order, analytics would argue that Hader should have pitched the 8th from the start
  5. My issue with this whole discussion is that many of the loudest voices have no true concern about the fairness of women's sports or whatever, but just have hatred to spread and view this as an acceptable outlet. We saw it in the Olympics, where many folks couldn't wait to pile on that poor woman - and then baselessly started to speculate about other athletes that didn't "seem" feminine enough. There was no desire to acquire facts on the issue and no attempt to mitigate the damage done by these allegations... just an opportunity to yell on the internet and then move on to the next outrage of the day. There is a genuine discussion to be had on the topic, as troph has illustrated, but nobody with a megaphone seems to be interested in participating.
  6. The problem for JD is that 99.9% of his days on this earth do not involve him taking part in a debate, and the American public has overwhelmingly decided that they do not like him on those days.
  7. Purposefully avoided the debate and have tried to avoid searching out news about it, but the fact check whining and the “damning non answer” seem to be the two moments that have kinda elevated into real news. Again, doubt this debate has much impact and I still might have some sourcing bias involved, but that doesn’t seem great for Vance.
  8. Shoulda brought up how Trump only distributed 1% of what North Carolina requested the last time they got hit by a hurricane because the request came from a Democrat governor.
  9. Putting in Hader here should be the only piece of evidence needed to relive Espada of his duties.
  10. I’m not brave enough to predict a Kamala blowout. But if it does occur, there will have been plenty of signs it was coming in hindsight.
  11. Feel like those clips are a preview of the VP debate tonight.
  12. Might be anecdotal, but sure seems like Elon has taken off any attempt to curate Twitter feeds based on activity and are just actively pumping pure right wing nonsense to everyone. Just nonstop bullshit from the moment I logged on today.
  13. Kamala: everyone deserves a fair shot Trump: we need the Purge “Both sides are equally radical!” - the smartest people on Twitter
  14. Saw a commercial yesterday where a bald, faceless, black man with "Allred" on his jersey tackled a young girl. I know this is their angle yet the blatantness of it still shocked me.
  15. Yep - it's remarkable how easy it is to just tune out. Every single time I return to twitter after a break, it feels like this: Not to keep beating a dead horse, but it's why I feel so strongly about the need for the campaign to do untraditional media. It's really easy for people to tune out the news, so if you are trying to win over new voters, you need to show up on their entertainment podcasts/sports pre game shows/etc. to get your message across.
  16. Don’t think there’s any chance Trump is there, but I’d bet good money on Ted showing up.
  17. It’s why I think Kamala/Walz need to go on podcasts like Theo and Rogan. Most of these bros aren’t hard pilled conservatives like Ben Shapiro or whatever, they’re just easily influenced jocks that are really only being message targeted by one political party. Of course they believe all the dumb right wing bullshit, that is the only group trying to court that demographic.
  18. Honestly remarkable how Trump not only has softened the GOP’s opinion of Russia, he has them all actively rooting against Ukraine. Purely because he wants to fuck Putin.
  19. Certainly some of that WI/MI money could be better allocated towards OH/PA?
