  1. I've read the DIRECTTV announcement twice and I sill have no idea what it's about.
  2. Thanks for info. I go to Kentucky a couple of times a year and am a history buff. Never heard of Perryville but will check out the area and the tavern.
  3. Game will be at night (6p or 7p). Looking for place to meet for lunch on gameday and watch other games. Then head to stadium. Still deciding whether to also pull together a small tailgate -- probably would start 3 or 4 hours before game and just be drinks and basic snack food. Not going to try and cook anything.
  4. Thanks for working on this. The Public House looks awesome, but may be too small for a large group? Hard to tell from pictures. My daughter (who lives in Lex) says that Charlie Brown's is more of a dive bar and not so much of a sports bar. I like dive bars, but for watching other games, the Bear and The Butcher might be better she said. It's across the street from Charlie Brown's. https://www.bearandthebutcher.com/ It looks pretty good from pics. @BurntEyes don't remember if you looked at this one. They have 14 TV's with game sound. For tables of 15+, they charge minimum $30/pp for food. Since we are still trying to figure this out, I went ahead and booked a table for 12 at 12:30p. Not saying this is the place and don't care if I cancel. But no charge to grab at least one big table, so I booked it. One negative, however, is that they limit tables to 2 hours according to website. So maybe crash Charlie Brown's after???
  5. Do it by zoom. Rude!
  6. FYI. Reservations for Buffalo Trace open August 20th at 9am for the Texas/UK game weekend.
  7. Good luck. Screw cancer. Hope to see you in Lexington.
  8. So far, we have following Surly-ites attending game (with total guests): @BurntEyes @GottaB (6-8) @Longboard Horn (?) @TxEx84 (8) @BrazilHorn (?) @YChang (?) @KingBobo81 (4) @TornACL (2) @Art Vandelay Miss anyone? To catch everyone up on previous discussions, if enough people want to do a small tailgate (have a central place to congregate), we can start planning. This will be nothing like the awesome tailgates put on by @immamac and others at Michigan and Alabama games. My plans are also uncertain on Saturday as I'll be herding cats in my group. But assuming we move forward, there are a few options. 1) Use RevelXP to setup up tailgate. Issues are cost ($1200 for small tent) and location. On the map below, only the orange box areas are available for a single game. Small areas and not near most of "the scene". The area in the blue box is RevelXP tents for season rentals. Absolutely would pay for tent in blue box, but cannot at this time. 2) Setup our own tailgate. Buy parking passes in the Blue Lot. Can buy tent for $150 at Costco or rent one for weekend. Would allow us to pack a car or two with food and drinks and have it next to tent. 3) Meet sometime in the afternoon at a bar/restaurant. Watch early games and the do own thing before game. Again, I'm not sure my own schedule on Saturday, so TBD for me if I can make. @BurntEyes mentioned this place: https://charliebrownslex.com/. Could do just this or meet here first, then tailgate. 4) Do nothing. You guys are from the Internet! Very scary meeting in person.
  9. Yes, recommend Blue Grass Parkway if you have the time. Old Frankfort Pike is good if coming from Louisville and are short on time. Taking Old Frankfort Pike is about the same as driving I-64 all the way to Lex.
  10. I started a separate thread for the Kentucky game so as not to clutter this one. (I know, not the Surly way.)
  11. Starting a thread for game in Lexington October 18th. A few of us mentioned going on the main Surly Tailgate thread. Assuming there is no official Surly tailgate, we may do something smallish if enough people are interested. Still working through logistics. FYI - UK made the Texas game Parents' Weekend and Homecoming. I guess because it overlaps with the horse races. Hotels are in short supply. Fun things to do Friday or Saturday before game: Keeneland Fall Meet - https://www.keeneland.com/ Beautiful horse race track that the locals really get into. Great tailgating outside the track. You'll probably find more students here than a UK football game. The races sell out. Tickets go on sale August 19. Kentucky Bourbon Trail - https://kybourbontrail.com/ Enough said. Visit a Horse Farm - https://www.visitlex.com/listing/gainesway-farm/7896/ https://www.visitlex.com/listing/visit-horse-country/7324/ There are several to choose from, but not all are open to the public. Link is to Gainsway which is spectacular. If nothing else, drive through horse country. If you're flying into SDF (Louisville) exit onto Old Frankfort Pike Road from I64. Horse Auctions - https://www.fasigtipton.com/locations/kentucky If you are around on Monday after the game, the Fasig-Tipton Sales start. Always fun to watch someone spend $1M on a one year old horse. If you are flying into Louisville (Southwest added non-stop flights from AUS) visit Muhammad Ali or Louisville Slugger museums. Numerous breweries, golf courses, and hiking trails if that's your thing.
  12. Sounds good. I'll check with my daughter (no pics) who lives there. See if there are others that want to join or if she has other ideas for tailgating.
  13. I'll be at Kentucky also with about eight others. I've been to one football game there years ago. Tailgate scene was decent. Expect a friendly crowd. I did a quick check and to reserve a tailgate setup from RevelXP is $1200 - the most expensive game of the year. Even more than their Tennessee game. The Texas game is Homecoming and Parents Weekend. Go figure. We plan to go to Kenneland on Friday. Since the game is Saturday night, we are deciding on whether to go to Kenneland again, bourbon trail, or all day tailgate. https://revelxp.com/kentucky-tailgates?selectedEvent=3591&selectedLocation=20
  14. <channeling my inner satya> DOOMED!
  15. Poor Iowa State. No respect. Tied with aggy in points, but listed as #22 in graphic.
  16. Oregon hosting Grateful Dead game against Wisky. https://goducks.com/news/2025/7/30/football-autzen-to-host-grateful-ducks-game-oct-25
  17. Yes, against S Korea. Think Klinsmann scored two goals.
  18. They're engineers. What did you expect?
  19. The Quarterfinal match between Brazil and The Netherlands at the Cotton Bowl was probably the best match of the tournament.
  20. Had the same reaction when a friend suggested staying there before the game in Ann Arbor.
  21. This line is amazing. Improved depth? In-house development? Or ... just spit-balling here ... the starters from last year sucked.
  22. And a side note. Mike Price of Washington State quit before the Rose Bowl to take the Alabama job (replacing Franchione). He was fired there before ever coaching a game. Strip clubs and such. <Costanza wasthatwrong.gif>
  23. 1994. We ended up playing Baylor Thanksgiving weekend.
  24. How 'bout a smoke and a Fresca? Len Dawson was a legend.
